Well, I just got my verdict in the mail yesterday...
I was found NOT guilty. Thanks all for watching! This whole ordeal made me really get off my butt and build a carPC with forward and rear facing cameras, as well as using my diagnostic software to log car data.
The truth is, I ALWAYS drive speed limit and set my cruise control. How else could I achieve 560+ miles/tank, ALL city? Definitely not by speeding.
@kegyota that sucks man... I showed a video in court that shows the lack of speedlimit signs where i was stopped and they still gave me the ticket... f'n bastards... they better hope they never need anything from me. $240 north carolina fine...
"You'd better keep that whole week free, Mr. ********. So basically they're just going to string me along. Awesome how ridiculously convaluted it is to just have your case heard, eh? I'm hoping I win the case considering it was a perfectly justifiable speed when taking the roadway construction type and also the lack of a speed limit sign. I ALWAYS set my cruise control for the posted speed limit, primarily to save fuel. I hope justice prevails.
Then, the judge told the court clerk to set my trial exactly 45 days in the future. He also told me this, "Since you've chosen a speedy trial, we will see you on the 22nd at 10am. We will bring the officer in for him to give his testimony, then the trial will be put on recess and we'll get back to your trial if we have time that day. If not, you'll have to come back at 10am the next day and so on..." (cont.)
I actually haven't even had my court date yet. It's set for the 22nd of this month. They (the court clerk) insisted on a 2 month extension, so I accepted. Then I thought you could do a trial by written declaration even with an extension. Alas, I was wrong. After that mishap, I showed up in court for my arraignment and requested to uphold my right to a speedy trial. At that point I was basically reprimanded by the judge for my choice to have my trial within 45 days.
55 is pretty fucking dumb on a major highway like that anyway
