I swear half of this is the guitar's pickups, because I have the same amp and Most of my time with it I've been wishing I hadn't got it as a christmas present, so I could return it and buy a tube amp. The tone sucks.
I bought one new. It crapped out 10 minutes after I plugged it in. I took it back and they replaced it with no problems. While I was at the store, one of the sales people was plugged in and playing one while we were talking about mine crapping out. It suddenly lost power and wouldn't turn back on, just like my first one. I took the second one I got home and it worked fine for one day. The second day the digital effects just stopped working. I took it back and they said they would replace it....
PLEASE READ:: i just got this amp, and when i plug my guitar into it through the input jack i get no sound... yet when i plug my guitar into the cd jack i do... why is this? ive tried other guitars, same happens, ive tried other cables, same happens... is it a problem with the input jack itself??? please help
Every video of this amp is miced shittily, played shittily, and EQed shittily. This amp is good for playing thick ass distorted power chords in a metal or punk context. Your not gonna get sweet, reactive classic rock tones. And people need to understand that even with a tube amp, if you want to get a great tone you need to alter it with pedals. This thing needs a noise gate before the amp, and an EQ with the high frequencies cut and a BBE Sonic Stomp in the loop to get rid of some of the fizz
wtf ..wait a minute ...he say basically it's illegal play the head through any other brand of cabinets other than marshall ... i think this guy is crazy right
im looking to replace the lil practice amp i got with my first guitar n i was jus wondering, dnt know bout this stuff but, when u buy just the head does any sound come out of it or is it just a control unit. will i have to buy the cabs with it or is the head usable on its own?
@MrBavelaar it's ok, ofc. I'm just saying, just because it says Marshall doesn't mean it's awesome anymore. To many people, Marshall is the only thing worth buying. But I rather spend money on a Diezel VH4 instead of a Marshall top today. However yes, it is decent as a first rack, but I'd replace everything, the 4x12 cabinet aswell, the jack is made of plastic >< Fail.
Had one, was quite satisfied with it. but you see after a while why it's so cheap...
It's alright but wouldn't really recommend it. Think Marshall is bit like Gibson atm, living too much on their name. It's sad, but it is true. Hopefully they'll start making amazing products again like they did years ago, currently I wouldn't buy any new Marshall amp (nor Gibson for that matter). Flame me if you want, I know they are not like they used to be, quality wise.
Does it sound this good in real life?? if it does i might consider buying it as a full stack... Either that or a Bugera tube half stack, ... Or a bunch of really nice pedals and sticking to my solid state 75 watt peavey.. lol give me suggestions people.
It's a Marshall MG series 100 H DFX!!! I just bought one last month, and you're all lucky I'm taking time away from it to say what a MAGICAL sound it really is! Been a Marshall user for over 20yrs now, and if you're on a budget...THIS is what you want!
@SnowBroProductions PLENTY loud enough for any gig! 100w head and a 4x12 cab.... Sounds so nice, I bought a 2nd half stack! DON'T get the new MG series though. They're missing a LOT of tone that this one delivers. You can get a GOOD used half stack for about $400 cdn
@boagley1 so the once they're selling now at guitar center are bad? So what year r the good once. Also what do thing about the B-52 LS100 and LS412A Half Stack. They're selling these at GC too. $00 watt cabinett isnt that better deal than the marshall, its also cheaper!
@SnowBroProductions Just look at the older series...You'll see 15 knobs, and 5 switches....Most important...CONTOUR!!!! NEW MG's do NOT have this knob, and SOOO much tone gets wasted. They replaced it with PROGRAMMING, but if you want "The Sound" ... go with the 2007-8 series...
Check my video and you'll see my " HORIZONTAL " stack! lol
The idea that solid state amps suck compared to tubes is a bit of a crock...I would agree with you 10-20 years ago...but the fact is technology is getting better and better with every passing day. Withsome of the great amp simulation software and a good mac, you can play a recorded bit, one with a tube mic'd and another through a software unit and you cant tell the difference, shit a computer cant tell the difference...
now when it comes to a live performance however, I still like the way tube amps sound but then again some of the solid state amps can simulate the tube dynamcis so well, most guitar players and pretty much 99% of an audience wont be able to tell...or care...owning a tube amp is usually a bigger deal to the guitar player who owns them : )
What the hell! The guy says that it's illegal to have a marshall head throught any other cab brand! ILLEGAL? WHAT YOULL BE ARRESTED? XD it wont work? This guy is such a lier!
Going solidstate on a marshall, as much as the mg does hold up its end, you might as well go AVT. There both solid state, but the AVT has the tube preamp.
first he is using a multi effect pedal second it doesnt feature celestion speakers theyre using another cab and third it is not illegal and will not reject another brand
ps the mg series suck balls you can buy a better amp for that price or you can save and get a true marshall and these guys are fags
lol well i know how not to trust the marshall videos from the guys that are trying to selling it lol he was NOT playing through that mg 100 i have the same one and it doesnt give out a high gain sound or a good tone high gain sound he was playing on a different amp right their thats for sure DONT GET THE MG 100 i amde that mistake i wish i would have saved my money and got a tubed marshall or a mesa
yeh I got a AVT50H with a cabinet for 475 which is not bad... but it sounds like pooh... I should have got a valve... how much did you spend on yours?
@bremp3 JCM is a whole another series of marshalls. You're looking from 1500 and up for just the head. I reccomend to you a JCM2000 (dsl100) head and cab for 1100..
@jjevansj i would not say at all alot better i have a 1982 MARSHALL JCM 800 AND A MARSHALL MG 100HDFX AND WITH THE FDD SWITCH THEY SOUND VERY CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER. I USE THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME PLAYING LIVE and my sound and tones are fantastic!
@stratdem cheers, i just purchased my first half-stack, i got a jcm200 tsl 100 head and a marshall 1960 hand wired cab. im really pleased i cashed out, the mg head is fantastic for the price and there isnt too much difference between the two but the jcm just has a really fantastic sense of power at high volumes, i love it!
@NishadSD My point is you would save up and get a nicer sounding amp if your playing to crowds that need an amp the size of a half stack, if your a beginner, whats the point in owning a half stack?
I bought one a year ago, mostly because I had always wanted the bragging rights. I'm learning guitar again with my teenagers. The sound is incredibly better than the small practice amps we have including a 25 watt Fender tube amp combo. Yet the cost was just a few hundred dollars more. We have the dependability of solid state with no tubes to replace. I intend to buy 2 more 100 HDFX half stacks with the 412a cabinets. Really, this is a bargain for such high quality sound.
I have a peavey valve king, im thinking of selling it and getting this amp? i like the tubes in the valve king, but its just so plain and boring, even with pedals. any suggestions?
What ever you do keep the valve king. I bought one of these about a year ago and could never get my live sound levels right. The sound levels vary between the clean and distortion channels depending on the volume of your guitar. if the volume of your guitar is low the distortion channel is louder than the clean channel but if the volume of your guitar is high the distortion channel is really quiet compared to the clean. The only thing this amp has been okay for is recording.
it's not junk. i've owned this amp for several years now and it's still going strong. if you can't get decent tones out of this amp then you're doing something wrong.
nobody get this pile of shit ! its a waste of money ! it sounds nothing like this ! ive owned my 100hdfx stack for a year and i hate it the only good thing is u put a pedal with it it sounds better coz marshalls take pedals like a dream
ive got the mg100hdfx and the mg412a and let me tell you this fucker is LOUD, and very bottom heavy, I've gigged it a few times, its not a tube but for $600 its extremely worth it, and it has a lot better sound then a Line 6. For $200 more I'd reccommend the Peavey Valveking which is a very nice tube, but for the $500-700 range I'd recommend this amp. at practices you'll dominate the mix
i bought one and it makes a buzzing sound.......................any tips?is this the way this things sound?i tried another one at the store and it kinda sounds with a buzz tooo////////////////////////
Yeah. He is right, I had a bad cable when i was using a really loud amp and it made a high pitched ringing everytime i held a note. You need a new cable. Get like a monster. I have one. It is pretty good. No more ringing either
oh just read this. yeah i have a marshall combo and it works fine. i play alot of rhcp and hendrix as well. i use an mg100dfx. alot of people say it sucks but i really like it.
the rest of mg series does suck but this one is a cool mg one. One of the best solid states oute there imo. Along with some orange one they make the solid state amp a good breed. Up to the point you play in a decent all tube:P
wtf does he mean the head will reject any other kind of cabinet? because i'm going to buy a Blackstar S1 412B to replace the MGcabinet because i think it s*cks on stage
The rpoblem with this amp, if it could be considered a problem since it is based on what you like is that it gives out a very digtal, cold sound, and no opposed to what some sold out player say, you CANT get a tube sound from a solid state, its different tech, tube use valves which create a void, where the condensed sound compresses and then decompresses, and solid state use transistors, simple cable through which the DIGITAL signal moves from the head to the speaker. PEACE
the only time i'd ever get a tube amp is if i was bringin in some good money, because its too fucking expensive to replace tubes when your a 17 year old
i hear ya bro im 19 and im trying to replace my shit from a house fire, but if you want a really good tube amp for a decent price id look at the Bugera 1990 or the bugera 6262 heads, they sound amazing and are 450/550 respectively, thats like a month and a half of saving for an average part time job
Damn I need a new electric guitar.

@stratdem cheers, i just purchased my first half-stack, i got a jcm200 tsl 100 head and a marshall 1960 hand wired cab. im really pleased i cashed out, the mg head is fantastic for the price and there isnt too much difference between the two but the jcm just has a really fantastic sense of power at high volumes, i love it!
jjevansj 1 year ago
@jjevansj and JCM costs a LOT more, so what's your point? This is a beginner's sold state amp. JCMs are all tube. Of course it's gonna cost more.
NishadSD 1 year ago
@NishadSD My point is you would save up and get a nicer sounding amp if your playing to crowds that need an amp the size of a half stack, if your a beginner, whats the point in owning a half stack?
jjevansj 1 year ago
I bought one a year ago, mostly because I had always wanted the bragging rights. I'm learning guitar again with my teenagers. The sound is incredibly better than the small practice amps we have including a 25 watt Fender tube amp combo. Yet the cost was just a few hundred dollars more. We have the dependability of solid state with no tubes to replace. I intend to buy 2 more 100 HDFX half stacks with the 412a cabinets. Really, this is a bargain for such high quality sound.

is a marshall mg50dfx or a vox vt50 better for rock and metal?
MattiGardners 2 years ago
how do you set it up so you have 2 full stacks connected?

I have a peavey valve king, im thinking of selling it and getting this amp? i like the tubes in the valve king, but its just so plain and boring, even with pedals. any suggestions?
travisj89 2 years ago
What ever you do keep the valve king. I bought one of these about a year ago and could never get my live sound levels right. The sound levels vary between the clean and distortion channels depending on the volume of your guitar. if the volume of your guitar is low the distortion channel is louder than the clean channel but if the volume of your guitar is high the distortion channel is really quiet compared to the clean. The only thing this amp has been okay for is recording.
gjk12 2 years ago
Thats why you have seperate volume controls.

an amp is important for a good sound, but you still have to PLAY^^
you´re right.
RobinsReloaded 2 years ago
its not the amp that makes the sound good its who plays it and if you cant play well... dont even talk shit about a perfectly good stack
(this goes to all of you haters)
jay3213 2 years ago
the amp is SUPER you gyus im astounded by this amp its the best thing ever for begginer to pro ;) incredible sounds
6paidaa 2 years ago
it's not junk. i've owned this amp for several years now and it's still going strong. if you can't get decent tones out of this amp then you're doing something wrong.

nobody get this pile of shit ! its a waste of money ! it sounds nothing like this ! ive owned my 100hdfx stack for a year and i hate it the only good thing is u put a pedal with it it sounds better coz marshalls take pedals like a dream
greenday2k8 2 years ago
Any MG series amp is junk. Ya will love it at first, and then 2 years later it will quit working.
hoagie13365 2 years ago
i am think of getting this head with the mg412a cab,
how would it go live in a gig ?
guitar1994kid 2 years ago
ive got the mg100hdfx and the mg412a and let me tell you this fucker is LOUD, and very bottom heavy, I've gigged it a few times, its not a tube but for $600 its extremely worth it, and it has a lot better sound then a Line 6. For $200 more I'd reccommend the Peavey Valveking which is a very nice tube, but for the $500-700 range I'd recommend this amp. at practices you'll dominate the mix
nolfavrellcalamakta 2 years ago
They should have just played through the amp not the PA... They have it mic'd. I have this amp and have not heard sound like that come out of it.

hahaha bro - u prob have bad cables or worse - a bad jack on ur guitar
AsEOfSp8dES14 2 years ago
Yeah. He is right, I had a bad cable when i was using a really loud amp and it made a high pitched ringing everytime i held a note. You need a new cable. Get like a monster. I have one. It is pretty good. No more ringing either
CMGuitarLessons 2 years ago
yea i have monsters too they rock!! but the 90 degree bend ones break easily

i have a peavey bandit112, and i play rhcp and hendrix, but i feel the sound of my amp is not flat enough. would this amp be better for my style?
kmisi1 2 years ago
i mean a marshall combo
kmisi1 2 years ago
oh just read this. yeah i have a marshall combo and it works fine. i play alot of rhcp and hendrix as well. i use an mg100dfx. alot of people say it sucks but i really like it.
dontxmatter 2 years ago
the rest of mg series does suck but this one is a cool mg one. One of the best solid states oute there imo. Along with some orange one they make the solid state amp a good breed. Up to the point you play in a decent all tube:P
topografer 2 years ago
both jimi hendrix and john frusciante used/use marshal heads and cabinets. so yeah, it would be a wise investment ;)
dontxmatter 2 years ago
wtf does he mean the head will reject any other kind of cabinet? because i'm going to buy a Blackstar S1 412B to replace the MGcabinet because i think it s*cks on stage
MetalMilitia696 2 years ago
he's kidding shit head
stratdem 2 years ago
He's just being a douche. Don't worry about it. After seeing this video, I have a lower opinion of Marshall.
jumper896 2 years ago
The rpoblem with this amp, if it could be considered a problem since it is based on what you like is that it gives out a very digtal, cold sound, and no opposed to what some sold out player say, you CANT get a tube sound from a solid state, its different tech, tube use valves which create a void, where the condensed sound compresses and then decompresses, and solid state use transistors, simple cable through which the DIGITAL signal moves from the head to the speaker. PEACE
play3apesta 2 years ago
FDD switch takes care of that problem.
the MG 100HDFX is the JCM 800 OF THE SOLID STATE MG 100HDFX MARSHALL.
stratdem 2 years ago
the only time i'd ever get a tube amp is if i was bringin in some good money, because its too fucking expensive to replace tubes when your a 17 year old
LAMB0FG0D1 2 years ago
i hear ya bro im 19 and im trying to replace my shit from a house fire, but if you want a really good tube amp for a decent price id look at the Bugera 1990 or the bugera 6262 heads, they sound amazing and are 450/550 respectively, thats like a month and a half of saving for an average part time job
ghostschiphon 2 years ago
this amp is still pretty gay when u can get a bugera all tube amp for 850
