  • Dance or fighting style? both right

  • @Bagel156 Capoeira is a type of fighting, Brazilian slaves who fought more like they could not fight them said to his master that they Ferro Gaita were just dancing,. CAPOEIRA IS A FIGHT BEHIND FOR A DANCE, over here in Brazil it is art and culture (:

  • capoeira não e lutar e dança e arte

  • why are they not hitting eachother!

  • @sugarofthesea it's just a show...

  • @sugarofthesea they are trying to trick each other. and if they really are trying to hit each other, the reason there is no contact is because they are EVADING the kicks not BLOCKING them. yes the is a difference

  • Show

  • Dance, Fight, Both, who cares? everyone have their opinion on Capoeira it can be used to fight with it but also to (dance) with

  • zajebisty filmik

  • ppl that train caapoeira will j=hand bak ur ass not like ppl its different from other styles i did kikboxing and now capoeira vote like!!!

  • @cagalova if u think this "shit" serves only like dance or acrobatic tricks - u r really wrong.

  • when you go fight on street 1 v 1 u use for defense this shit ?

  • @cagalova There are many elements in Capoeira. The flips here are only for show and that is all people know and see when capoeira is brought up. If you look up TKD and Kung Fu exhibitions you do see the flashy flips as well.

  • @cagalova capoeira is not a fight, its a dance, im brazilian and i know, capoeira is not a self-defese, so shut up.

  • @ricko148 and in tekken or like that is fighter using capoeira

  • @ricko148 Because being Brazilian automatically makes you a mestre? Listen up, I'm American, Irish descent. I've been doing capoeira for less than a year and ALREADY it's apparent to me how to use it as a defensive and offensive martial art. Capoeira belongs to no nationality, it's a game and a fighting style and a dance that ANYBODY can learn and master.

  • @Postscript624 belongs can be interpreted as it origins. Never forget the origins... I been a capoeirsta for about 1 yr as well... I also practice MMA/Krav maga self defense, us army combatives, And gracie jujitsu. My thoughts is that capoeira alone is a very limited martial art for self defense. My roots in capoeira, has made it so that i pick up and get promoted faster in every other martial art i try. Its a good unique and powerful foundation, to begin other forms of self defense.

  • @tankshot009 That's very true, I love the origins and culture of capoeira, and it's one of the many reasons why I love it so much. But being brazillian doesn't make you any more adept at capoeira than being chinese makes you adept at kung fu. I will admit that capoeira is definitely not the most practical self-defense technique, but I'm glad to hear that it carries over into your other defense styles as well. I have also trained in some shotokan karate and find that the two round out nicely.

  • @Postscript624 Exactly man!! great to see that others get the same result... as for standup punching/boxing... the ginga makes it so easy to switch stances as well as dodge attacks... as for groundfighting, the flexibility and endurance from capoeira give me a clear advantage over none capoeira backround practicioners. And of course... My kicking is superior to everyone in my gym except for like, the tae kwon do guys, and we're like even. How do you see it apply to shotokan?

  • @tankshot009 Well shotokan's real traditional and steady, capoeira's more flexibale and bouncy. But throwing a few capoeira moves into shotokan you can get a nice blend of both worlds, using shotokan to keep yourself roots but capoeira to quickly extend and suprise.

  • @tankshot009 That's very true, I love the origins and culture of capoeira, and it's one of the many reasons why I love it so much. and the artist is: Olodum

  • So..how is capoiera a martial art? its acrobatics and dance, apparently-but I dont see any movements which would actually do any sort of self defense?

  • @Elianora001 It is a martial art. This video is just putting the emphasis on the acrobatics part. If you go to bahia, Brazil, you will see the martial art part pretty clearly :).

  • la capoeira me parece que es una de las mejores artes marciales que existe...

  • What is the name of this song that is playing.

  • Damn, this isn't capoeira. It's some monkey acrobatics, not a game. And the game part of the video.. Those 2 guys could as well do everything without the other person. No interaction. Hands don't protect the face. There are no real attacks, no real esquivas.

  • @Reyevan stfu ur just hateing because u cant do thoso moves.capoeira is also about expression and if u knew anything about brazilians ud know that we always like to mix things up a bit

  • SO T R U E

  • are you acutally trying to knock each other out in comps?

  • SO AWSOME!

  • i love capoeira but it's realy hard

  • i wonder wich one is harder or tougher to do :/

breakdancing or capoeira :/ cause they look pretty similar but you can still see slight differences :/ i personally think capoeira is harder though :/

awesome vid by the way :D

  • Capoeira is not just a dance

    It's a martial Art ^^

    So I guess that's harder...

  • If you can do one thing you'll probably not face much problem doing the other.

  • not really , I had a friend in the army with me that was better than anyone in this vid + he was in the olypics in tae kwon do and I could never teach him simple breaking moves such as windmills and flares

  • Tae kwon do is a lot different from capoeira or break dancing if you ask me.

The guys at my training do pretty much everything. Of course the 'style' differs. See, my team would look a little different from a group that's all about break dancing. But as bodies, we can do the same things.

  • Capoeira isn't that hard actually. It looks hard but its not exactly easy but its at a good level. I lernt more from 1.30h of capoeira than from 1w from breackdance.

In my opinion they breakdancing might be harder.

  • They should have airflare in capoeira too!

  • Capoeira is so great the music the movement the joy i just started doing Capoeira like to weeks ago and i love it almost as much as i love soccer/futbol

  • 0:56 is that allowed in a roda?

  • yes it is ;)

  • yes, its called rastera

  • depends who ur playing with. most people allow it but most of the time when i see it, its spurs from jelousy

  • yep :p thats allowed

  • very interisting..

  • 0:50 lol that was nice

  • Don't laugh. There were many times I was trying to set someone up in the roda and it backfired. I feel for him :-)

  • Titulo da Música: Berimbau

    Artista: Olodum

  • music berimbau singer olodum

  • legal muito acrobatico

  • the song`s name??

  • capoeira venho dos afro brasileiro

não da africa ! capoeira é cultura brasileira !

  • whutz is that move called when that dude jump over three people

  • it's called 'armada dupla'

  • capoeira é muito dificil, mas se voce sabe jogar é legal

  • I know that everybody ask about the title this song. Can you told me what is title this song ??

  • you can download this song from youtube with Save2PC, but i think the song's name is Ob Berimbau

  • legal muio legal

  • MUITO LOCO

  • Muito bom!!!

  • Yeah, those flips and moves are nice, but a bit dangerous against someone who doesn't do flips.

  • but at 0:22 the guy does even flips and even very powerfull kicks o.o

  • Indeed. Now I am scared!

  • This is why people say capoeira regional is empty... all they are doing is flipping everywhere and doing all sorts of foolishness in the roda... Where's the tradition, where's the magic and where's the philosophy... There's a single word which is well know in capoeira circles and a google search will verify this... its called: Whitening

  • the magic is that its fun and brings people together. the great thing about capoeira, regional or angola is that from something that was made because of so much discrimination and hate, there is none

  • To be honest if you read the history of Mestre Bimbas Regional capoeira, you will see that the Brazilian government took it as a national sport requested Bimba to make it more acrobatic so it could rival the gymnastics of other countries.

Capoeira's original styles had many afro-Brazilian (and African) traditions, which wasn't of interest to the European descended practitioners who requested he taught the more beautiful movements.

I was a regionalista until I became more informed on capoeira.

  • really? i didnt know that. well either way regional or angola i still love it. im going to do angola once i get the acrobatic stuf down.

  • chross1984,

    Thanks for being honest :)

I think once people look past capoeira's initial looks, they will see a rich and vibrant history full of pain and suffering, but also freedom and celebration. I instantly loved capoeira Angola even when I was training in capoeira regional.

I hope you grow to like it too.

  • well its initial looks are what makes it capoeira. but i know what you mean. and i do like angola i just dont practice it to much yet. i cant do some decent ground work. but i just want to get regional down first. i've always wanted to be able to do crazy acrobatic kicks like you see in the movies and stuff. lol

  • .lol. You definitely think like a westerner (no offence).

Well (I think) most Capoeiristas will agree that Capoeira is more than looks. Its about self defence, philosophy, music, spirituality, expression, trickery, movement and much much more.

The way Capoeira looks is simply a result of these combining elements. Capoeira Angola looks the way it does because of Tradition, and Regional looks the way it does because of what (western) people think looks beautiful.

    Its all Capoeira though.

  • oh i know its about more than looks. i absolutely think its a great martial art and will defend that point passionately. and as to expression, spirituality, and music. i know this to because it has changed my life. its made me happier, more confident, and introduced me to an incredible community in other capoeiristas. and as for the trickery and movement, thats why it is a great martial art.

  • chross1984,

I like your attitude and I'm sure that if I ever met you in real life we'd fast become friends... Anyway I have 1 last bit of advice for you and I hope you don't think I'm being patronising.

Try to remember (and apply this to every martial art you do) that Technique and Skill is better than Strength and Power. Remember that there is always a counter attack to every strike or hold and also remember to never panic or rush, but try and control the situation.

    Stay blessed,

    Peace

  • oh i absolutely agree

  • just in case you didnt know brazil is located in the west! LOL i do totally agree with you. looks are the final concern of any good capoeirista

  • tankshot009 ,

.lol. I wasn't referring to the geographical western hemisphere, I was referring to the Western culture and the western mentality of material value and looks being more important than tradition. I live in the western hemisphere myself, but I'm not a westerner.

In certain parts of Brazil (like Bahia) many people are of African ancestry and show pride in their African culture, however western culture is of European origin (not African).

    Stay blessed,

    Peace

  • @Sobekkha Either way, Capoeira is very cool. Nice to know you do it! I want to start =) Oh, and we are all descendents of Africa =)
