  • This posted video, “40 Years in 3 Minutes” takes a look at some NYC moments in history while synched to The Beatles’ GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Also includes some 8mm film antics from 1971. Enjoy.

  • Well it was Dutch, English thiefs stole it and renamed it, just like everything else in the 17th century. Winners write history huh

  • who knew they had google earth back then

  • they had google maps back then?

  • 1:17 - I would DESTROY it.

  • 0:14 - Fellatio hotels eh? Whore-houses.

  • press pause then 5 for hump sound

  • it is quite a novelty if i may say so.

  • though i am canadian, i am quite proud that i am somewhat a product of some of the first english and dutch settlers of new york...or new amsterdam, depending on how you want to look at it.

  • @ronnoc1990 new amsterdam is a much cooler name;>

  • in 0:13 there is the Appstore ^^

  • While New York was settled by the Dutch, they decided not to fight the English for the territory and agreed to the Articles of Capitulation, which allowed the Dutch nationals to remain in the province and to retain their property. King Charles II granted the charter to the new colony to his brother James, the Duke of York, hence the name.

  • That's why it used to be new Amsterdam.

  • New York was found by a Dutch guy who traded that piece of land with an Indian for 22 peaces of silver in 1622. There's a monument in New York written in Dutch somewhere that says that.

  • new york means in dutch 'nieuw amsterdam'

But was raised by southern dutch=> now called the belgians=> flemish people

In belgium they are 7million dutch speakers

  • @ardiesken It doesn't mean New Amsterdam at all; New Amsterdam was the original name, and was changed to New York; it was named after York in Yorkshire, England.

  • the bit I liked best was at 1:18

  • The funny thing is that they didn't say anything about the history

  • Without a constant mass influx of fresh water and electricity from the north (New York State), the city would equate to a cesspool sinkhole.

  • i just lost the game

  • hahaha, black and white google earth

  • new york rokkss, buhh i miss the twin tower, it used to be soo beautiful going to Manhattan from bklyn n looking at the twin tower, now we new yorker's have left is the boring old empire state building...

  • I ♥ NY

  • Aww.. I thought you were going to give a history lesson! :-)

As a Belgian I love to hear about the founding of NY, most people forget that in the 17th century, when Europe started colonizing intensively, the Dutch founded 'Nova Belgica' on the spot Manhattan lies today. ;-)

Question to New Yorkers: do you get teached about those things?

I often wonder what image people from abroad get from our country, hence. :)

  • belgium gave us jean claude van damme

  • yes my dear friend history of new york is thought here in nyc , n in some colleges n in sum skuuls they even have classes which mainly tell bout new york.

  • Ahh, that's great. :)

Other than that: did you hear anything about a 'Flanders House' opening in NYC a few weeks ago? There was quite some commotion about it in Belgium because Flanders is only a federation and no country on its own, and the place they hired for it was quite expensive..

  • @Thornstalker i now its like two years late, but yes we do.

  • BORING

  • I wish I could visit there one day!

  • i love the narratore old american voice.

  • 8th, yey!!!

  • 7th, GO PHILLS!

  • Why didn't the history of NYC include the massive destruction that took place when King Kong got loose back in the 1930s?

  • LoL!!!!!!!!!!

  • *lets King Kong loose on the comment count callers* oh well

  • @JesusSavesAtCitibank My guess is it was covered up. And then it was turned into a movie so that any "accounts" of the incident would be laughed off.

  • @brnleague99

Ah, yes, yet another conspiracy theory for the NWO nutters to grab on to.

  • Third. But seriously, this was a great video. Thank you for sharing it with us, Rocketboom.
