Crikey! It landed on the 3rd rail! You can see the driver shoving it off the rail with a stick. Cool video though, running right along side the train. How fast u reckon the train was going?
I don't think the person salvaging the plane off the train rails knew there was a camera in it. I was worried the next scene would be the person relieving himself on the tracks.
With a whole housing estate and station facing the railway line I think I would have been done for trespassing within a few minutes if I had collected it myself... No, I spoke to the driver on his return journey to warn him of the obstacle and he collected it himself!
Its called a V.T.T.P (V-Tailed Twin-Pusher as it has twin pushing-propellers), I think you can build it from a kit. I've modified mine quite a bit. Ages ago now, but think it cost around £40, plus radio gear etc. I strongly recommend getting insurance with the BMFA too :-)
It was resting on the live rail- lucky it didn't go up in smoke! Thats why the driver had to stop to avoid damage to the collector shoe and use some sort of stick to pick it up.
I still haven't traced the fault actually - its definitely a low-voltage battery protection issue.
The speed controller cuts the motors when the voltage drops to a certain level so that there is still power for the servos. I still had control, as I attempted to guide the model towards us before it crash-landed.
I'm beginning to question the speed controller having replaced both the battery and battery charger!
He didn't have to stop at all! After the crash-landing I went straight to the station and talked to the driver as he pulled in to the station, to warn him of the obstruction on the line. He decided to go and retrieve it! :-D
There is no train there!!!

I don't think you should have flown it near the railway line in the first place. Its asking for it.

I don't intend to again!

Ha ha! It almost hit you guys! The other thing was I don't think its battery died. Your receiver (plane) went too far.

donaldengine9 4 years ago
I was flying the model in the field pretty much next to the station, so I was only a 10 minute walk away.
