I grew up in the LaGuardia projects at Clinton/Madison in the late 60s-79 and I loved the dirtiness/gritiness of the city the way it was. I watched the Twin Towers being built and I remember going with my Mom to shop at the Co-op on Grand St with a stop at the Jewish Bakery to pick up a fresh made strawberry cheese cake. I watched double features at the Loews Delancey and ate take out at the Chicken Delight on Essex. My favorite memory is buying Aurora models and 45 rpms at Joes Record Shop.

@ricantarzan I grew up in Washington Heights by Highbridge pool (60's-70's). You described exactly the NYC I remember, just a different neighborhood. We had a Loews, RKO Colliseum, Hobbyland and Kappy's records. I miss those days.
