@marthus14173 SRV has never used anything thicker than 011. If you get 012 the g-string would be like the bass strings, wire spools on the string. But SRV has never had that, his g-string is always smooth. So that means he always use 011 or less. OR he uses 012 or 013 with the g-string replaced with something else. But I doubt he'd go that far just to get thicker strings. Especially 013, do you know how hard it is to bend with 013 strings?
@DonQuixotec acording to guitar player magazine he actually used GHS Nickel Rockers measuring .013, .015, .019 (plain), .028, .038, and .058. at least on his main Nº 1 guitar
@flaminglonewolf@boricubano2005 he actually used custom sets of .13's (so .013, .015, .019, .028, .038, and .058) but instead of .013's he used 0.14's
@MrPocketGuitar Then he must changed out the G-string with something from a 11 package. I know another guitarist that does that on his Martin. He uses a pack of 13's except for the G-string. cause he doesn't want a "bass string" there. Plus he bends alot on the G-string.
Good job , but just a suggestion try playing it ising the neck pick up , which it putting the switch in the all the way up position , which I believe is how SRV played it.
uhh theres 2 special edition models made.. I no the 1 youre talking about but theres 2 different models made. The one im talking about has the letters SRV in metallic silver on the side and the guy ay GC told me that I had to put ten grand down to even touch it or he would lose his job
Are you talking about the actual replica of number one from the custom shop? Cause this one is just the normal signature guitar...around $1600 or $1700.
its a 59 bod, with a 62 neck, well the original neck was a 62... but they changed the neck cause stevie played it soo hard that the neck needed whole new frets soo they took the neck off of "RED" thats why it has a left handed neck now and i have no clue what the year is for the neck off of red
In 2003 Fender documented Number 1 , you can see Jimmie Vaughn in the Background as the guitar is examined , and the neck is clearly a righthanded neck. Also according to Rene Martinez , who took care of all of Stevie's equipment . The original neck was stamped 62 , as well as inside the body cavity. He asked Stevie why he called it a 59 , and Stevie pointed out that the back of the pickups said 1959. So it's possible the guitar in it's originality when Stevie bought it was infact a 62.
noooo.... red has the lefty neck now, the a week befor SRV'S death a amp fell on the neck and it broke so they put the original neck back on.... if you see in his vids around 86, 87 he has a different neck... it doesnt have the cigaratte burns and stuff i'll send you a vid of red with the two different necks
good but get some beefier strings

qtip1064 1 year ago
Yup, neck pickup and it should sound a lot closer. You played it well otherwise! Keep it up :P

the xylophone also sucks
48MotoX 2 years ago
Looks like you are playing out of the wrong pick up, but the musicality sounds good.
The right sound seems to bring out the right feeling especially for SRV.

good!

get some overdrive on that guitar. u need a tube screamer or a blues driver or somethin :)
ClaptonRules64 2 years ago 15
Great. Get thicker string though. 0.12 or 0.13. That'll give it the fat sound of SRV. It'll also blister your fingers :o)
marthus14173 2 years ago 3
I know, they're killing my fingers right now.
littlewing4813 2 years ago
@marthus14173 I believe SRV played a pretty small string though

@DonQuixotec His guitar tech Rene Martinez recalls him using 13-58 tuned Eb, but hed use 12s or 11s if Stevie's hands were sore.

I prefer it slower like this than the aggressive pyrotechnics some others perform.

I suggest that you start using thicker strings and start picking more aggresively and trust me, you will get that SRV tone.... Nice vid btw

you guys are all retards, lol, joking, don't take offense..... but there are two guitars of his for sale by fender...
1. tribute stratocaster, sunburst with gold gear and texas special pickups.
and 2. The Lenny stratocast, surprisingly almost exact on looks..... that one goes for $17,000 USD
rocknfenderguy 3 years ago
the one on musiciansfriend is around 1200 only
Speerman666 3 years ago
bs the srv edition costs 17000 and theres only 100 made

it's so ridiculous how many fanatics will pay that when you could buy a guitar of the same exact specs and quality for a fraction of the cost
