  • Sums up divorce really

  • The Steely Dan! no further explanation necessary \(^_^)/

  • do you guys know if he's going to tour again?

  • sitting here eating my sad cuisine looking at an unused ticket to this show,my life SUCKS

  • I kinda like frying up

    My sad cuisine

Getting in bed and curling up with a girlie magazine

Sometimes in the corner of my eye

    I see that adorable ghost

And then ba-boom I remember the things I miss the most

  • I don't mind the quiet

    Or the lonely nights

I don't miss the funky attitudes

And I don't miss the fights

I lie on the couch 'til suppertime

And hunker down and read the Post

And that's when I remember the things I miss the most:

What a poetic way to describe what in fact is a lonely feeling of someone that has been left by his loved one. Not only the music is awesome, the lyrics are sheer poetry and proza.

  • "I'm learning how to medatate, so far so good" " I'm bulding the Andrea Doria, out of balsa wood" "the days don't really last forever but there getting really dam close"

  • One of THE great Dan tunes - hilarious lyrics, dynamite chord sequence, killer tune, great playing, peerless arrangement, superb dynamics.

    Yup.

    It's Steely Dan.

  • Satisfying on every level!

  • steely dan ....kool & klassik!!!!

  • I hope they play this song at the Beacon in September.

  • This is a better song live than on the album. The rhythm section is a lot looser.

  • Can't really add to the comments already posted...sometimes it's just nice to hang out with like-minded people!

  • well done, well played and dig the lyrics ...

  • I wish Don and Walt would make another Steely Dan album.

  • I am sitting in my comfy Eames chair feet up on the footstool listeneing to this with a beer and reflecting how good these guys have been for so long now ,not something achieved by many in our throw away here today gone tomorrow world.Well done guys and keep it going as long as you can we will miss you when you are gone, but your music will live on.

  • This is a great song. My favorite song on "Everything Must Go." "Lunch with Gina" is my second favorite from that LP.

  • The backup singers are the best in the biz.....ain't no auto-tune here, kids. Carlock's a great drummer but I'd prefer Erskine onthis tune

  • The backup singers are the best in the biz.....ain't no auto-tune here, kids.....

  • Flawless. Haunting authentic funk-jazz. Its amazing how awesome this live performance was, considering the complexity of the song.

  • as soon as this comment gets any likes it stops being good, how the world works

  • I have loved the Dan since way back in my youth, everytime I hear them I fall in love again!

  • I miss music

  • Flawless harmonies.

  • It's just so tight! This is the best song to reminisce to...it's not sad but more of a closure...

I have a habit of not buying albums when they drop and I made the mistake of buying this Album just last year...knowing that I should have bought when it dropped!

  • these guys have more musical ideas in one song than most astists have in a career

  • @pretorious700 i'm agree with you.....this song is one of the best i've ever heard......

  • I had a little birdie friend, By morning she was gone, Birdie good bye, Birdie bye bye...

  • @Khultan The bird of youth

  • @pretorious700 ...all the while I keep in mind the subjectivity of such an suggestion.

  • @Khultan and I keep in mind the superfluous nature of such an observation.

I can be cryptically obtuse too

  • @pretorious700 Lighten up, dude, I wasn't snubbing. Sheesh...

  • Out there with the best of Dan. Damn Dr Benway!

  • Fagan's beginning to look like Woody Allen ! ! !

  • is there a groovier more stled elequent well versed hipper band? i think not !! cheers to the kings of groove and style STEELY DAN!!....Tony 41 kent ,ohio

  • The talk, The sex.

    Somebody to trust.

    The comfy Eames chair.

    The good copper pans.

    The '54 Strat.

These are the things I miss the most.

  • Love this song. Hilarious lyrical brilliance ("The someone to trust..." LOL) and classic Dan music which combines accessibility with sophistication.

    Superb!

  • @MATWrehearsals pretty sure that line's delivered without any sarcasm or cynicism.

  • @kwakky - I fear you're missing the joke, then. "The somebody-to-trust" is the set-up line. Then he lists all the possessions that his ex has obviously taken from him in the settlement. "The Audi TT, the house on the Vineyard, the house on the Gulf Coast..."

She even takes his '54 Strat, which makes me laugh every time.

Yep, how he must miss having someone to trust. lol

  • @MATWrehearsals You may be right, but being old myself, I interpret a little differently. All of these things represent youthful vitality and good times. the great thing about SD's songs is that they are not so literal-they are open to interpretation.

  • Nice song! Love the guitar fills, especially on the album...

  • I love their last two albums every song!

  • I've been listening to all my "Dan" getting ready for the show in MD this month and was surprised to see this video! Thanks so much for posting it! I adore Donald and Walter, and can not wait to see them up close at Constitution Hall!

  • I just realized how funny walter becker's whole guitar performance is on this song. I just started laughing my ass off. Haha.

  • so comical.

    perfect and true

  • What did he do with the left hand in the ending. My immidiate thought was m..turb..ing tics.

But nah! He can't have that kind of biggus dickus narcissistic syndrome can he?

  • yep,excellent song.

  • excellent stuff, thanks for the post

  • Thanks Carlos. This is some good shit!!!

    --Judy--

  • Love this song!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Simply the best song of ever!!!

  • excellent song! Thx for posting.

  • Donald Fagen: he's the real deal. He's not playin' around. It's in his DNA. Ha!

    We're not worthy.

  • It took me many years to experience this moment..and, this is a moment to remember..Wow..MuCh ApPrEcIaTiOn for your time bringing this to us..and, thank you YouTube for the experience...Many Stars for the Audio/Visual...muchas gracias to my dear friend, Paula..~curumina1~ for the ♥LoVe♥

  • I miss love too.

  • "sometimes in the corner of my eye I see that adorable ghost"

  • what is the chance that anyone would come up with this combination of words

    tied to the mast

  • @maryfay53 Actually, that is from Greek mythology. Odysseus had the crew of his ship lash him to the mast of their ship and fill their ears with beeswax so they wouldn't succumb to the sirens' songs.

It's also a great metaphor in "Home At Last" for longing.

  • All times music, thank you Carlos PC !!

  • This song is just so great, says everything.

And Bokonondawg, you scomment it so well, a song for every mood....

  • haha, walt's so funny. I wanna see Steely Dan

  • This is good, too bad larry Carlton isn't playing

  • This harmony is awesome! Fagen rules.

  • Very few groups can write a song for any mood I'm in...just look through my collection and there's a song; UP,Down,Low,Love,Young,Old...Studio or Live, no one comes close!

  • Donald is fucking hilarious.

  • Legendary song and

    legendary band!!!!

    And incredible performance!!

  • Ladies, and some gents, isn't the drummer adorable? What I wouldn't do to share dinner with him.

  • Donald Fagen is the man.

  • I kinda like frying up

    My sad cuisine

Gettin' in bed and curling up with a girlie magazine

But sometimes in the corner of my eye

    I see that adorable ghost

And then ba-boom I remember the things I miss the most

  • i like how donald is scratching himself from 4:30 on lol

  • Went to see them in July 07 Birmingham UK.

Never thought would ever get the chance.

    Fantastic concert.

Thanks for posting all the videos.

  • MMmmmm not quite in the same league as the Dan and dare I say no where near as successful in terms of recent material?

  • not in the same league as the Dan? these guys don't give a shit about radio play, it's pretty obvious you have no idea what you are talking about---oh by the way, this IS Steely Dan---how could you not be in the same league as yourself

  • How brilliant is this!!!!!! So sad though...brought a tear to my eyes...

  • Tell me the name of one other band from the 70's whom are a) still perforning new material b)still lyrically so contemporary c) writing such good songs and d) still not willing to compromise for the sake of being ''popular''.Thats waht makes these guys so good and so cool and the only band to sell out in Liverpool in advance on their latest tour.Pure genius, they will live forever.Thank you for posting.

  • I often wonder what words can do justice to such genious and shivering and speechless are good ones - it just does not get any better - SD the meaning of life, they can just capture it. Cool Funky guys most excellent

Thank you soooooooooo much for posting

  • Quality.

  • Speachless

  • I'd never heard a live version of this song. Very nice.

  • As good as Brubeck, and that's saying something.

I don't think I've seen or heard the classic concert yet.

Holding out for Carnegie Hall. Walter and Donald, invite me.

Forget that Gold Circle shit. Just for the appreciation value.

    ( A message in a bottle, I guess.)

  • It made me shiver - one of my favourities ever of Steely - amazing Donald ...Thanks for posting

  • Thanks to you for watching!
