  • These are really flying people, at Brize Norton, Lyeham and Yeovilton. Transporter for Royal family and a fuelling aircraft for existing fighters. Honoured to have served her.

  • ie. south east england and W1 squander and centralize wealth created by the whole country - the other 95% of the UK can go and die a slow death. Literally.

They've destroyed the bonds that made us British. It's no longer healthy. So let Scotland go - we are good people and don't deserve second class status. You've made your feelings clear so let us move on. The nuclear Silo that is Scotland deserves much better. Isn't it just common decency, ultimately? Whatever happened to that?

  • two words - ejecter seats.

in a funny way - the vulcan mirrors British society. The two in the front will live - the rest of you can die in a fireball. Money - old chaps. Money.

  • VC-10's are the best! Those and Vulcans!

  • The vulcan is still by far the best plane ever made...needs donations tho :/

  • The Vicker,Vulcan, and Concorde were my favorites at Air Shows. I saw the U.S. Six engine XB-70 Valkyrie in '67 and the CF-130 Hercules JATO Demo close up a couple of times back in the early '70's. Those are the only two other aircraft flying with sound the could shake the ground and have my ears ringing for sometime after the finish their performance. Close shows that I went to in my area stopped for some reason after '75. For safety and noise hazard probably.

  • i love standing at the end of brize norton runway watchin it go over me amazin! i saw it do a flyby with 2 v-c 10 either side stunnin

  • That was the wildest takeoff I think I've ever seen! Who needs nose-wheel steering anyway!!! (yes I know it had probably been deselected by ground speed anyway) I saw my first Vulcan at Duxford a few weeks ago. I would give my thumbs to see XH558 fly. And who could say that they "baby" her? I am amazed by how aggressive you guys are with the takeoffs. Love the howl, Cheers from Texas!!!

  • why is it shit, its a classic piece of british engineering, its nearly 50 years old, it can't be 'thrashed' around. The objective is to keep this great plane flying, which is a miracle anyway. don't listen to the jack-asses below, do donate its a great aircraft that NEEDS to be preserved for the future, you obviously don't understand historic aircraft you stupid bastard

  • @JJCvulcan sorry were you replying to me? Just in case you misunderstood my comment I was referring to the post on the side wind at take off and the pilot having to battle this with rudder inputs, I totally agree with you. This is a fantastic piece of engineering and should be operated within a reasonable flight envelope. If people want to see aerobatics etc they should watch the fighters perhaps?

  • Wonderful to see both VC10 and Vulcan together!

Please Please Please Donate after viewing this video! Visit Vulcan to the sky today! This bomber must fly!

  • That is a rare scene...wow

  • Hi Iain, great footage - from the tower I guess.

I was there and Kev must have been watching the F1 drivers warming their tyres.

Now going to watch "The Vulcan Effect " DVD again.

Merry Christmas to all XH558 supporters, and everyone else....

  • he was all over the place on takeoff. jeez

  • SHIT YEAH i RECKON,

  • well the display is more restrained than when the aircraft was in service but logically the idea is try and keep it in the air as long as possible..but obviously some people would prefer to see it thrashed for a couple of seasons and then never fly again...each to their own I guess

  • what an idiot.

  • @bayleafdog

Im kind of hoping for an 90's style display for when her final display is officially announced. Always a good thing to go out in style. for now though I think they're doing good taking it steady.

  • The vulcan battled against the wind on takeoff I noticed, nice aircraft but I & many others will never give another penny after her crap display at Fairford this year, it was like watching a formula 1 car doing 30mph..glad you caught some good footage here Iain.

  • We're lucky its even flying...

  • Get her in a museum, save the publics money is my moto.

  • And if the public want to spend the money on keeping her flying?

  • What a stupid thing to say.

  • No, it isn't...

  • You really are an ungrateful idiot who just can't accept that there are good reasons to be gentle with it. The display at RIAT was superb, the presence of this aircraft is amazing. You don't need something like this to screech across the sky at full speed to enjoy it.

So just be thankful that this aircraft is flying and enjoy what we have instead of putting it down because it doesn't live up to your silly and childish standards.

  • Like I said, silly and childish. You're just ungrateful. Anyone who can truly appreciate this aircraft will be able to enjoy a gentle display.

    You are quite absurd.

  • Calling me a Twat is not childish?

I'm stating how it is. No-ones perfect, I'm not always right, but this time I am.

You just do not appreciate it. I'm not being sad, you are, by complaining when you shouldn't, a lot of hard work goes on with the Vulcan.

I have a life, I enjoy it for what it is - you don't.

  • Wonderful to see the Vulcan in the air again. As a boy I used to see them regularly flying over my house using Blyth Power Station on the northeast coast as a target. They used to come in over the sea, circle the station going over our house then back out to sea. A wonderful and evocative sight. I just didn't know what the planes were actually for! Now the Vulcans are gone as is the power station.

  • the 15th of June was a monday this year

  • i wish they could build more of the big v bombers and bring them back into service that would be really cool!

  • Oh! Just listen to the roar of that vulcan's engines...

  • Keep your eyes peeled on the Friday of RIAT weekend, we'll see what we can do...

  • some people argue that the Victor was much better...but maybe we should get the Victor at Brunty flying again to compare the two

  • You do realise that what you said is easier said than done.

  • true...true...fact sheets anyone?

  • It was said that the Victor was more versatile, and it did serve for 9 years after the Vulcan went, and although younger, it was only introduced 1 year after the Vulcan.

Either way, it's clear that the Vulcan is the most iconic.

  • Well said

  • Oh please can we see this formation at RIAT when the world is watching.

  • it played a crucial part in the falklands war, look it up.

  • The Vulcan is a bomber, correct?

  • wow, looks like they had trouble keeping it on the centerline on the take off roll :)

  • It did. Kept using the rudder to keep the nose straight XD

  • Once again, beautiful video. Could someone explain to me what the Vulcan was used for? Was it a bomber?

  • yes, it was a bomber

  • Thanks for clearing that up. It's such an incredible piece of machinery.

  • np mate, i saw him live , he is massive and beautiful, when u standing next 2him u really can feel his power

  • Yeah, but did it ever bomb anything?

  • This particular Vulcan never actually dropped any bombs in anger, however two Vulcans flew monstrous 8000 mile missions from Ascension Island to bomb the runway and other installations at Port Stanley during the Falkland's conflict in 1982. At the time, they were the longest bombing raids ever attempted.
