  • Yes。 most of the traditonal chinese opera are female character played by male but after 1950s more and more females appear in stage. now it's hard to see a male can play female character that well.

  • Colour motion picture has been around for more than 100 years, it was invented in the beginning of the 20th century and made popular in 1930s. The famous 'Gone With The Wind' was a colour movie made in 1939. of course the quality wasn't as good as it is now.

    Then Black + white became an Art house thing, and many film directors continued using b+w until the 60s because b+w was considered more expressive with dramatic lightings.
