Excellent video. Stu Rasmussen is a great example of how diverse people are in how they think about gender. I'm pretty impressed he was elected - when you think of how conservative the political world can be most of the time. Well played people of Silverton, Oregon!
It's pronounced (ras*ma*son) Rasmussen , he is the mayor from a city called Silverton , Oregon , hay I live in that State lol , I am one of those believers of different variations of transgenderism , Stu is male but just likes to present as female , to me that is one variation type and it's not like the people are offended by him ether , in fact he has been elected mayor in that city for 3 terms now , way to go Stu. A big + for the trans community.
Are there varying degrees of cancer? Yes. The question is, as a person suffering from cancer, is it important to you to be defined as "terminal", "in remission", "getting chemo", etc? The only practical reason to defines ones identity is if that identity is being discriminated against to such a degree that it makes daily existence painful. Every person is a member of *some* minority, & deals with *some* discrimination. What some people find intolerable, other let roll right off their back.
I can tell you are really thinking hard here. Part of understanding ourselves is understanding other people, and you're doing such a good job. I wore a skirt today, because I felt like it. ;) I love you and I'm proud of you for letting yourself think on camera, for showing others how it looks to think, and how to share conclusions.
This video was very informative, and did a great job of presenting ideas about gender and identity. People do have a tendency to categorize other people, but I agree that once we learn how they want to be, we should respect them as we would want to be respected. Labels are more general guidelines, but if you really want to know someone, you have to know more than that. People are overly concerned about genitals!
Stu is the one who calls himself male and uses male pronouns and I respect Stu for what he has done. I have raised the question in a video I posted back after the election. Can this due to the level of exposure help or hurt the progression of the transexual community? Like I said I respect Stu and anyone's right to be themselves, but I must say I'm torn on my opinion of it helping or hurting progression.
