  • a real king of all rock and roll

  • Ian should do audiobooks

  • I figure him to be a fan of Charles Dickens

  • In my humble opinion, this man gets about 30% the recognition he deserves. He's been making magical music for half a century, really...

  • The guy is very bright, unlike that moron Corey Feldman!

  • what a depressing arse!

  • He's a very cute handsome man. I much like him. :)

  • I`ll see him tonigt. I'm really looking forward. So exiting seeing mr. anderson live for the first time.

  • Ian Anderson had a TV show?

  • What a truly original artist this man is. What he did with the flute and how he incorporated it into rock is truly noteworthy and to those who have seen him perform, there`s really no one quite like him. Great!

  • YOU THE BEST,,AND THAS ITS

  • I said metallica sounds like a bad imitation of JT. The singer for Metallica sounds like he has listened to them. If you listen to one and the the other Metallica is laughable and silly. Ian nails the ahs on the end of the notes, Met. sounds like a pro wrestler. Not the same, just a failed attempt at JT singing style.Check it out.

  • What? you think? really?

Oh well maybe that's why Metallica got beat out of the award for In Justice for all ( containing one ) by UnderWraps ( containing steel monkey)

  • You mean Crest of a Knave.

  • Your right it was Crest of a Knave that had Steel Monkey and UnderWraps on it.

Sorry about that it's been long ride.

  • Under Wraps was a separate album.

  • Bouree

  • it was crest of a knave bro but it is true metallica did get beat for the first ever hard rock grammy

  • shit my bad didnt see you caught that til a few minutes didnt mean to look like a douche

  • They weren't inspired by Tull, but more modern and harder bands than Tull, like the bands they covered on the original garage days.

Comparing Tull and Metallica is really far out there, like the Eagles and Slayer. You are talking about a complete different fan base. The only song that comes to mind by Tull that James and them would have liked to maybe cover is cross eyed mary but Iron Maiden had already done that years ago. Bet you didn't know that Iron Maiden stemmed from Tull, check it out.

  • lol Mr.Mannering!

  • What happened to his accent?

  • Ever notice how Metallica is just a really bad imitation of JT? After listening to the real thing they sound like Weird Al.

  • Hey man, don't be insulting Weird Al!!!!

  • weird al rules

  • How on earth is Metallica like Jethro Tull? Totally different sound, motivations, backgrounds, and muscianship.

  • I interviewed Ian Anderson by phone in 2003 for a local newspaper. I'll NEVER forget picking up the phone at my house at the appointed time and hearing him ask for me! Weeks later, my wife presented me with a framed IA-autographed copy of the article. She had sent it to Tull's publicist, and he got it to IA, who signed it and had the publicist send it back. It reads "To ********** - thanks for the interview! Ian Anderson - TULL." It's one of my most treasured possessions!

  • he what makes this country great...i think

  • I used to work for a company in the scottish highlands owned by Ian Anderson. . A more down to earth fella you could not meet.

Not that he was there often in the 5yrs i was there, Daltery has been there also, when he had his trout farm on the black isle.

  • i like the guy dont get me wrong,, but he looks like mr mannering {dads army}.,.,.,..,no ?.

  • you stupid boy!

  • hahaha.. yes.

  • Probably one of the most talented musicians of our time

  • I've always been in utter awe of this man's talent---ever since '68 and the "This Was" Lp

  • I agree, he really is in his own class, isn't he?

  • Ever notice that Metallica is really just a very bad imitation of Jethro Tull? They just don't get it.

  • I saw Tull on the rubbing elbows tour @ the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. And I saw them again last year. Anderson still rules and Tull still rules.

  • A true genius..

    awesome talent ,,lovely personality..

  • Awsome muscian

  • he looks like rob halford

  • Great musician! Wonderful man!

  • I hold this man at the highest regard - both as a man, and musician. Tull's music is much more calculated than what we hear on the radio now a days, and was very advanced for its own time as it still is. They combined complexity with simplicity in a way that no other band before, or since, did.

  • @David89Anderson

i simply could not have said it better my self. my last name is also anderson.

  • @David89Anderson I agree a 100% , what a inside information!

  • Every word that's coming out of his mouth can't be seen coming. Brilliant musician and human being.

  • If you don't like Jethro Tull don't worry, it's considered to be intellectual rock so it's not your falut... you can just stick to your simple minded music instead of something that's to complex for you to comprehend.

  • I'm 16 and I am a tull fan, and I will admit that even though I was never alive to see tull in their prime in the 70s and 80s, Tull is one of the most underrated bands in history....I am super suprised that tull isn't in the rock and roll Hall Of Fame yet... they are such a good band.

  • my sentiment exactly, including the part about being 16...the intellectual bent of tull and anderson's music is amazig, and they are simply lovers of creativity....history, music, mythology...their music is audio poetry

  • I'm not surprised at all. The supposed Hall of Fame is controlled by a small group of peopel with ties to the music industry and thus is decidedly against the whole progressive music genre. Longevity and musicianship is not nearly as important as selling records quickly and showmanship. Maybe one year Tull, Yes, and Rush will all get in, but I highly doubt it.

  • Not to defend the Hall of Fame, but didn't they induct Zappa posthumously? Maybe they were trying to take a stab at other prog musicians by inducting the guy who not only was dead, but who clearly would have been indifferent if not antagonistic towards the idea.

  • Because people behind rock and roll hall of fame know everything and you are not good unless you get in.. sigh.

  • This man is one of the best musician in the history. His concerts especially in the end of 70´s were extraordinary. His voice so natural but perfect, his flute virtuosity, very good guitar playing and his moving around the stage....Perfect, even I´m not a big fan of JT

  • ian anderson musician. league of his own. if your better than speak, if not shut the fuck up

  • Well said!

  • To all who dares to insult Ian - What have you ever archieved in your life? All you can do is tossing insults on internet because your life is void. To me, you're but a shit on Ian's heel.

  • ¿And what do you achieve by saying that? Do you even know who are the people who insult him? The one who's always at the person's back defending him with stupid arguments and living of the people's sayings, the one that, without noboby to insult his idol, has nothing to say, is the person who doesn't achieve nothing.

  • "To all who dares to insult Ian"

rephase: "the one WHO DARES to insult ALMIGHTY IAN"(like if he was God)" What have you ever achieved in your life?" sounds like:"only IAN CAN ACHIEVE SOMETHING IN HIS LIFE, BUT YOU, the ones who insult HIM, recieve nothing in exchange!only the WRATH of IAN ANDERSON!"

Live your own life as a person, not as a slave of Ian Anderson. He is a human, like you, not a god, he can make mistakes, so you better live fighting more for yourself, Ian's able to defend himself

  • First of all, I am an atheist. Ian, however, is for me a musical God. I do not know the people who are insulting him, and frankly, I don't give a shit about them. I am not a slave, you are very delusional. Defend Ian? Oh yes, I will defend him, but I am sure he can defend himself quite well against these nimboids. But I somehow doubt he'd give them a second of his time. Which is something I fully understand and therefore there is my reply to them.

  • that whole line of conversation made me depressed!! O:

  • I respect Ian, but for the guy who said "he's not an asshole, have you met him?" that's not a reason for him not to be an asshole, if you meet an artist, who must follow a conduct protocol of good manners like everyone, i'ts obvious he's gonna be kind to you, but in the inner side, with the people he don't likes, the people he's more close to, he's... um... not so kind...

  • please dont insult ian

  • he's a lovely man, intelligent, articulate, down to earth.

surprised that he speaks like a proper country gent, whilst his singing voice is heavily tinged with a celtic lilt!

he really can talk too!? x

  • no he isnt - hes really kind. hasve you met him??

  • . . .takes an asshole to know an asshole !!!

  • Your an asshole.

  • I don't think I'd want him for a roomate, but he has determined his own course in the music world for the last 40 years. And he is a very talented musician, he has the right to be a little quirky same as any of us.

  • Ian always seemed to me sincere, hard-working, uncompromising, unapplogetic, strange yet very brilliant. One hell of a musician, man.

  • This is Ian Anderson?! In 2003!! Apart from a little hair loss he hasn't aged at all!!

  • He's a bit husky.

  • I cant even imagine how much that man has seen and done. What a legend.

  • excellent video---5*****

  • I thought it ws gene hackman at first....JT is still fantastic

  • JT fans plz join my jethro tull fan group.just go to my profile and click groups.join jethro tull fan group

  • But.....I learn something new everytime I hear him!

  • Hello Pocogirl its Jocky again! What exactly did you learn new from that unfortunate interview? Your hyper criticism of Ian 'a mite loquacious' has left me dazed and amazed. There is a touch of the 'Salamander' about Ian as he has always had the ability to adapt to his surroundings, but he was totally condescending to his fellow band members here. His attempts to differentiate between the genders was a bit off to say the least. Yet I still love his music and thats what counts. Tull forever.

  • I didn't get that at all from this interview. He just said he preferred questions from women and that he didn't like people picking on his band.

  • Yes, Ian is quite intelligent, but also a mite loquacious perhaps. ;-)

  • The bulk of you who use terms like "pseudo-intellectual," don't know what a true intellectual is. You're simply threatened by anyone who is concerned with anything deeper than sex, drugs and rock and roll.

  • @bobgee1999

Tell me .. what in your opinion ís a real intellectual?

  • "pseudo-intellectual clap-trap" you mountainviewguy, are a retard. who honestly has no standing at all to judge ian taylor.....

  • I like hippes and psychedelic's music, and i like Ian & Jethro tull too =D

  • Fuck me !! I`m 35 and i look like that now !!!

  • kool

  • hahahahahaha

  • i like im but what a windbag

  • He's actually relatively trim and fit for a man in his mid to late 50s. We should all be in such good condition.

  • @rohmer50

he is also extremely handsome.. have ALWAYS thought so.

  • He's not "fat", he's got a stature like most blokes of this age. But very well-spoken and a very good interviee.

  • He never was a freak really. He used to sack band member for drug use, and he was really quite anti-hippie.

  • Ian affirms my suspicions:he's quite intelligent & very articulate..bravo Ian & thx to u & the boys for all the great music!

  • lol... lemme see, American culture and expectations can be summed up with one word: "Shallow". Sounds about right. Right on Ian! :)

  • Unfortunately, that is correct.

  • Ian Anderson is a genius!!! and a cool person. I'd like to meet him.

  • Ian is such a real person. He seems very approachable. If only, eh. What a cool guy.

  • Interesting what he says about the radio hosts. When I saw "Rubbing elbows" in Seattle, whoever the guy was that hosted the show was a complete fool. Actually, the experience was much as Anderson describes about the upstate NY host.

  • Can anyone tell which host he was referring to? I live in Buffalo, and his remarks have struck my curiosity...

  • a fellow buffalonian here. cool.

  • back at ya, bflo brother!

  • very interesting interview. thanks, will check out pt.2

  • One of my favorite musicians
