My whole point was arthas was a paladin, and was supposed to resist evil temptations and fight for the light, but in the end he succumbed to evil, thus failing himself.
@Freedom21stCenturi he gave in to evil was to protect his loved ones. He belived that if he could control the runeblade he would be able to stop the Scourge from destroying Lordaeron. But that backfired and he fell in to darkness. And if you had known, he was the only reason the argent dawn could ever put Icecrown under siege. He was holding the Scourge back from wiping ever living on Azeroth out. Had the Lich King had full control he woud have wiped everthing out.

In my opinion there really is no good or evil in that game, everyone has their agenda, they all are loyal to something and against something else, like different factions. If he was working with the burning legion, now that's another story. He just choose the power, and allegiance where he was appreciated and out of he's fathers shadows.
The Lich King is without doubt my favorite bad guy in the warcraft era. Ilidan is cool, but his background and history doesnt compare to the lich king. Bc was pretty fun, but i think World of Warcraft's final Hoorah was WOTLK. in cata they've changed way to much and has made the game more of a hassle than entertainment
I wish Blizzard didn't scrap the whole Ner'Zhul plotline. It's just dumb that in WOTLK that he was only Arthas. He should have been the Lich King...no longer Arthas or Ner-Zhul. Just one singular evil entity. Or Ner'Thas or Arthzul could have worked:P. With with Bolvar as the Lich King now...maybe we haven't heard the end of Ner-Zhul....

If you've played WC3 and then TFT then this final ending is definitely moving and pretty sad. It's on of my favorite endings in a game. Arthas' journey led him to this final point to ascend to the throne of the Lich King.

@TheJboy88 Something that I absolutely love about World of Warcraft is the ability to play as characters of both the Alliance and the Horde, solely because you know that both sides only want what's best for their people. Neither side is "good", and neither side is "bad".
"Have you lost your mind Arthas?" All those whispering voices of his past give me chills. A truly terrifying character, to know he was once for the good of mankind only to be corrupted by the hunger for power on his mission to save his people. One of the best stories in the Warcraft universe.
Personally, i would LOVE to see blizzard take a whole new RTS direction should they make Warcraft 4: since Starcraft 2 is already the "old school" rts, i would love them to come up with a sort of "Warcraft 4total war", with mass formation battles, apocalyptic spells and "historic" campaigns wich describe the various conflicts of Warcraft's great lore. I would just love to see Thrall fry a whole formation of footmen witn chain lighting xP, or see tyrande bombard the enemy army with falling stars

You know what i noticed,the mutltiple blades on frostmorne are shown on the right side of the blade,but in World of Warcraft they are on the left. What gives? Did blizz make a mistake?
@madcat789 It's hard to tell but Frostmourne has two skulls on it, one with the horns going around the hilt and the other with shorter horns that stop before they touch the first's. Again I can't tell if we're looking at the second skull or not, but I hope that helps.
Just felt like mentioning this, When we say "Warcraft 4" we are referring to the RTS sequel to Warcraft 3, because we don't know what the next Warcraft RTS is going to be titled, but it's most likely going to be, Warcraft 4. If World of Warcraft WAS to be Warcraft 4, shouldn't it be titled "Warcraft 4" then?
Anyway, I just want to keep things simple for all of us, the RTS sequel to Warcraft 3 is called Warcraft 4. World of Warcraft is a spin-off but set in the same universe and hence, canon.

Some people just liked the easy-mode WoW that Wrath of the Lich King brought to the table. Actually having content that isn't stupidly easy will obvious alienate the newer crowd, but for the rest of us, it's a welcome change.
@mmvsn That used the games engine. A lot of the cinematics used the games engines to allow them to be used as part of the game or to "phase" a player (the wrathgate cinematic).
the panning-away of Arthas sitting in the throne gives me goosebumps everytime, especially with the music. his story is so tragic. he was so dedicated to helping his people, he unwittingly became the ultimate evil.
I can't wait that long at all, and lets be honest, the cinematics in the RTS is so much better than the mmo. If it does take them a decade I just hope they make it with such a high quality that it brings tears to my eyes. And you are right about EA and Activision, that why I torrent all their games ;)

For all those who thinkin why there is that much water.. I used think that too but then i discovered it, its actually same place on WoW as it is in cinematic but all tha water is gone see in game its actually bottom of sea we see there, hard to explain.. but asd.. :D
the reason its different in WoW is cuz over the abominating years, Arthas has built all the citadels and vaults, crowding each with the trecherous Scourge beasts.
Icecrown Citadel is built around the spire you see in the image, the Frozen Throne.
It is a massive, dark citadel, towering above the hilltops and glaciers in the cursed land of Icecrown in Northrend, home to the Scourge and the fallen prince and Lich King; Arthas.
Its walls and towers are made of the hardened blood of an old good, pitch black and cursed, the tower is an inpenetrable bastion of darkness and most of the citadel actually resides underground in the glacier itself.
The only thing that I din't get it is when we see Arthas merging with the Lich King there is a pinnacle around cold seas, and in WoW instead is placed into a Fortress well inside continental Northrend...teleport or undead magic able to lift earth from the abyss or great use of free manpower (scourge) to find a better location suited to aristochratic taste from Mr.Arthas?
I was wondering that myself. Although thinking it through a bit I believe that the WC3 video must have been made in the spur of the moment. And because it looked better with water. Reasoning behind it? It's called IceCrown Glacier. Which as far as I know was located somewhere around the middle of IceCrown mainland itself. Alternatively Scourge mages work too. Dalaran anyone?
@omega00omega I just realized.. WC3 takes place five years before WoW, right? Five years is a pretty short time to build something as impressive as ICC. I guess undead workers can work day and night :D Take that, Egyptian Pharaohs!

Arthas is an excellent example of a fantasy villain done right.
Everything he does he does for the sake of his people, even giving up his own humanity by choosing to become the Lich King.
This gives a very tragic element to the character, as he is now nothing more than the king of a dead land and a dead people.
All that effort and sacrifice, for nothing.
A shame other villains can't follow this example.

Some people just liked the easy-mode WoW that Wrath of the Lich King brought to the table. Actually having content that isn't stupidly easy will obvious alienate the newer crowd, but for the rest of us, it's a welcome change.

You're joking right? Compare this one to the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic. The WotLK cinematic is FAR superior to this one in every way.
That's not to say this is a bad cinematic, but to say it is of better quality of Blizzard's latest cinematics is just flat out false.

the panning-away of Arthas sitting in the throne gives me goosebumps everytime, especially with the music. his story is so tragic. he was so dedicated to helping his people, he unwittingly became the ultimate evil.

I can't wait that long at all, and lets be honest, the cinematics in the RTS is so much better than the mmo. If it does take them a decade I just hope they make it with such a high quality that it brings tears to my eyes. And you are right about EA and Activision, that why I torrent all their games ;)

Was even a book about Arthas becoming the Lich King... which seems a tad redundant, since that's also what Warcraft 3 was mostly about.

Icecrown Citadel is built around the spire you see in the image, the Frozen Throne.
It is a massive, dark citadel, towering above the hilltops and glaciers in the cursed land of Icecrown in Northrend, home to the Scourge and the fallen prince and Lich King; Arthas.
Its walls and towers are made of the hardened blood of an old good, pitch black and cursed, the tower is an inpenetrable bastion of darkness and most of the citadel actually resides underground in the glacier itself.

The only thing that I din't get it is when we see Arthas merging with the Lich King there is a pinnacle around cold seas, and in WoW instead is placed into a Fortress well inside continental Northrend...teleport or undead magic able to lift earth from the abyss or great use of free manpower (scourge) to find a better location suited to aristochratic taste from Mr.Arthas?

I was wondering that myself. Although thinking it through a bit I believe that the WC3 video must have been made in the spur of the moment. And because it looked better with water. Reasoning behind it? It's called IceCrown Glacier. Which as far as I know was located somewhere around the middle of IceCrown mainland itself. Alternatively Scourge mages work too. Dalaran anyone?
