Nice group, what species? I raise Sulcata's, and regularly spray them down with water, though they are naturally from near the Sahara, their borrows are moist. They eat plenty of grasses and weeds, with no pesticides whatsoever, sprinkled with D3 fortified Calcium. I feed them on sifted, crushed oyster shell, inexpensive and a great source of calcium. I see your tortoises get plenty of sunlight, they are a lucky bunch. It's great to see them thriving so well. How about some live footage?
Torture? You seem to forget that they are reproducing in this torturous environment. Obviously they are doing something right. Stop being so critical for goodness sake!
La chanson n'est pas appropriée......comment peut on prononcer les mots "best friend" "i love you" quand on voit l'etat déplorable de leurs carapaces!!!!!!!
This is deplorable!!! They are over crowded and have deformed shells and living on concrete!!! And your still breeding them!!! I hope animal services looks into your horrid care of these wonderful creatures. Don't you see that their shells are deformed from lack of beneficial nutrition. These poor tortoises'!!! It makes me sad to know there are so many Desert Tortoises' out there in these same conditions. So Sad!!
These poor tortoises are being abused. They are over crowded and should not be kept on concrete. They are not healthy. And - breeding endangered tortoises in uhelathy, captive conditions does absolutely nothing to help. Captive born tortoises can never be released back into the wild - ever.
Anybody who wants to learn about or help tortoises should go to sites like the California Desert Tortoise Preserve.
They ARE cute but so horribly 'cared' for. They should be on a hillside with burrows and correct diet - this is torture for the poor little things, The keeper shooudl be ashamed and to play 'Best Friend' is just adding insult to injury. I will nt be eating my dinner this evening after watching that :(
How large are their enclosures? feral tortoises roam large areas and walk a lot. You seem to keep yours in very small enclosures (and there's a lot of them in the same cage). If I were a tortoise, I wouldn't be very happy about that...
The temperature of the eggs is what determines the sex of the critters inside. I've never bred my turtles so I don't know what the temps are, but it's the same deal for alligators/ crocodiles
yes, but the male i have from the time of 1984, when he was born (in very bad conditions) and i was 4, is my partner and friend. Then, a neighbor give me a female tortoise because she couldn´t take care of it, and now i have this beautiful family. In Mexico there isn´t a problem for that, while take care and reproduce that protected specie. But in this these days is illegal to pick it up in the highways or in its natural living. Is no illegal when somone give you for take care of it.
Sweet video :-) And quite a coincidence, I've used the same song in a video about my turtle :-P And about the pyramiding, I read a study a while ago, saying it might depend on a combination between diet and air humidity; more humidity equals less pyramids (of course it also needs to be warm enogh so they don't get sick). I don't know if it's true, but I'm considering buying.. one of those things that create water vapor, whatever they're called in english, to my turtle.
I went with a veterinary doctor, he told me my tortoises are very well, only 5 from my 39 have problems and maybe can be genetic, but at the moment he give calcium and vitamin D supplements for those 5 tortoises .
Ana Gaby, You must love your tortoises but they look malnourished and the are too crowded. They might be your "best friends", but are you their best friend???

I can see that their shells are pyraminding already so that is NOT a good sign. It means their diet is improper.

no, trust me. I've worked with tortoises for a long time, healthy shells are NOT like that.

Alligators and crocs are low for females, higher for males.
Reversed for desert tortoises, higher - up to a point - means more females.
Is illegal to breed desert tortoises in CA.
