W.E. "Big Bill" Lister, who toured as one of Hank Williams' Drifting Cowboys and was dubbed "Radio's Tallest Singing Cowboy," has died. He was 86. He died Tuesday in San Antonio after a brief illness. His family said Lister was performing nightly for crowds of 300-plus on a cruise from Galveston to the Caribbean until just a few months ago.
True Americana. Only two are left who were close performers with hank Williams. Ray Price being one, and the other Bill Lister. Lister was the opening act for Hank Williams. At over 6' 6'', Lister is the gentile giant.
@daktariusa Braxton Schuffert is still alive. He was one of the very first Drifting Cowboys, and is still performing today. He lives near Montgomery, AL and you can find him at regular events at the Hank Williams Museum.
A classic.. I went to school with his son Weldon in Boerne and saw Bib Bill several times over the years. He was always a class act
