The difference with Proxy and VPN is that the first only hides someones ip the second encrypts the connection. For example you are in a coffee shop with free wifi.

for the VPN those actions are encrypted.

Where is the catch? The VPN provider can also sniff packets and many free ones are suspects of data mining.

I'm not trying to put him down... but he is teaching things that are incorrect. A proxy server does not 'hide you behind an IP address', it forwards your requests for you, if transparent your address is sent clearly. It's not a bad video, I would just recommend you touch up on your terminology a tad :) Keep up the good work

He's obviously a younger guy with some knowledge why did you watch the video if you din't know what he knows which is what a VPN besides some type of security which it is to hide your IP in order to protect your own computer. A VPN is basically a tunnel that allows communication to a different network.

You can use a VPN as a proxy by choosing to use the default gateway on the remote network.
