this is a great documentary but Pilger is UNBELIVABLY pro chavez. And look what he is doing now. a second castro whose slowly but surely destroying a democracy. He is virtually president for life. Now Pilger how do you justify THAT? He is do his own vision of a great dictatorship like what other Latin American countries did but without the support of the united states! UNBELIEVABLE that we will let this human tragedy to occur unopposed!!
This was an amazing documentary, I just saw it last night. I already knew how bad the American government was, this just solidified the reason why I am NOT proud to be an American. The history of the United States of America is based on brainwashing, control, forced conformity, and murder, and it is still going on today; those things are not something to be proud of.
Whether Chavez turns out to be a scumbag is not the point afterall all politicians eventually by nature are- but the idea is what survives. People are learning that" living THE good life" and" living A good life are not the same things! When dignity pride community and economic balance reclaim the economics of ""me me me""! The answer certainly isnt current capitalism where the top 5% own 90% of the wealth- life isnt fair and may never be but we can do better!

This isn't an open journalistic search to find the truth; instead, it is borderline propoganda supporting socialism and demonizing the US and capitilism. I will give Pilger credit for an extremely well made piece of work. But, in reality, this is not the type of work which deeply affects me.
@billsfan13594 i dont think it demonzies capitalism in its simple form- i think it demonizes the corporate capitalism thats running rampant today- to be honest venezuela s real socialism is really in its controlling its natural resources- which i support- why let foreign companies reap profits from resources on your land- reminds me of BP posioning our shores and the us govt kissing BPS ass and letting them handle it as if the have any real concern for us (corporations run the world and the us)
@billsfan13594 I guess you are able to look past the truths uncovered in the film huh? I think your sense of reality is a fantasy world, where you lay on the couch all day long eating Doritos, drinking shitty beer, and watching the Buffalo Bills lose over and over again!, and you buy into the B.S. our American government feeds you during the commercial breaks, which leads you to believe that Latin Americans being murdered is just make believe. Does that sound about right?? Your an idiot!
@silversurfer741 I am 16 year old living in philly, I don't drink beer and I don't watch the Buffalo Bills. And Im pretty sure the US gov does not air commercials that say murdering Latin Americans is make believe. But the fact that as an american you have the right to say what you want and are able to watch what you want is something you should be proud of. I don't Chavez takes to kindly to those who produce propaganda against him. But of course, I should put my trust in you, a whiny prick
Any country that thinks they can intervene in another country's affairs whenever they feel it's in their national security interest should itself be overthrown.
I only wish more Americans would be conscious of the atrocities that their governments have caused over the years. That doesn't make you anti-American, it actually makes you a better human being.
Long live politicians like Chavez who have a sense of humanity.
"Democracy is the most vile form of government. ... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."
@Mr88playmaker No, Chavez is the rightful democratically elected President of Venezuela. It's your government that tried to overthrow a democratically elected government and install a dictatorship. YOUR country exerts its tyranny over the sovereign democratically elected governments of other countries. When you hear extreme rhetoric against the United States remember this: You deserve it.
@Mr88playmaker no im one of the ones who slipped thru the cracks i have one already.. the thorn in 'yall" white devils sides....the aid of distablization, the advocator of justice, the hand of truth to kill the lie, a two legged human being that hates america and all it stand for. so am i angry ummmmmmmmmmm lets see yep :)
Americans wash their hands of their responsibility by blaming their government. Yet every hour of every day they allow them to get away with the bullshit. You deserve everything you get, and when the world has had enough you will have no friends left. Then we will get to hear you whine about how the situation isn't your fault all over again and no one will care. Carry on, allow your government to spend obscene amounts of money on war while children are dying, daily. Karma is a bitch.
Democracy is just the new thing around. The ruling families realized, if they are not a target to the population and they let the people decide who they think will be i charge of politics in the next few years, the people always will feel guilty too, because they put the politicians into their seats.
The real power, that makes agendas and is ruling comes from evil incest families, to keep the power in the family. As always!

@k4rv1 dummy ignoran facist and imperialist MF!!!! every world hates USA cuz is the worse thing on the earth surface as was rome and UK. Latin America and Asia is poor cuz you! cuz you, North Americans, are a band of thief wicth steal our natural sources since 1890 and manipules the market to favor you! you are a crap. All latin americans, africans and Asian will revange it cuz you looked for!!!!
@MarcBrazuca My friend. The American people are not the ones who we should antagonize. It's the government. In a lot of ways, the American people are victims of their own government with the top 1% of the country pocessing more wealth than the bottom 95% altogether because of the pro-buisness policies that put the pursuit of profit first and human life second.
@AUmapathi1 I totally agree is the government not the people... The american do not have any control over the war policies and what have you... People in America are losing jobs and are being treated like commodities by bloodsucking corporations... the government works for those corps not for the people...
Pilger threw his lot in with the Chavez and now, with Chavez making himself president for life Pilger and his leftard fans look more stupid and sentimental than ever.
Why the film directors supported and financed by Chavez always hide that in the 2002, the present ambassador of Chavez in Portugal said in the national network we The Army asked for his resignation to him which accepted. Mr. John Pilger, asks Chavez for these plans in the Fourth Republic: ACUDE, Mercifrica, Casas cuidado diario, Dispensarios, Barrio Obrero. You are irresponsible who only let see a single part of the Movie. In the name of the Justice, in Venezuela we are losing the Freedom
So much for your democracy and freedom of expression you Hippocrates there is no such a thing as democracy any where in the world look at Gantanamo bay look at the treatment of organization in UK look at Afghanistan, Pakistan, and many Iraq democracy is spreading all around the world by lies and bombs. Thank you for your genocide against Muslims.
I wish we had more politicians like Chavez in the US. Unfortunately we're stuck with Obamas' and Bushs', which aren't a whole lot different from each other. Good for you Venezuela.
@itrainsinoctober chavez is not perfect , he is slowly turning into dictator , by having more authorities ( even appointing judges ) , but compared to scumbags like Obama , Blair , and Bush , he is good
So your criticism is directed towards banks and loans. What has it got to do with capitalism? Aren't people free to not borrow money? Or do you prefer to loan money from governments instead of private banks?
So perhaps the only way to make profit is to be unscrupulous. You need to pander to the corrupt needs of society after all. Simple supply and demand relationship here.
Life is all about fulfilment and gratification. What's wrong in giving people the freedom to produce and consume? The problem as I've said countless times is anti-intellectualism. If you can get people to produce quality products, get consumers to demand quality products, then you won't end up with the mess we are in now. The idols of society should be philosophers and scientists, not celebrities. When you achieve such a society, this debate over capitalism or socialism no longer matters.
Without the U.S paying for most of the enormous cost of running the UN you wouldn't have a large political body willing to enforce human rights.
And without that we see the rise of states like the Third Reich, and leaders like Hitler.
Although American government and multi-national American based corporations have directly an indirectly caused the death of way more people than Hitler; I WILL NOT STAND TO LET A MAN LIKE HIM RULE AGAIN!!!
Christmas is the time when kids tell Santa what they want and adults pay for it. Deficits are when adults tell government what they want and their kids pay for it. ~Richard Lamm
RED-BASTARD SOCIALISTS: jingoists, imperialists, terrorists, hypocrites, narcissists, dictators, mass murderers, lechers, assassins, rapist of resources, pedophile of the weak, whiners of the strong, bringers of death, soul-suckers of life. Thank you socialism for what you've done in Cuba, North Korea and Eastern Europe rest assured when you die the tall burnished throne of the kingdom of hell shall await you.
capitalism is the wage slavery of immense humanity through the politically manipulated market mechanism for the abstract process of concentration and accumulation of capital in the hands of a few, its an artificial limits and barrier on possibility of our collective cooperation for our common well being, a community of humanity where our scientific / technological and human skills are for betterment of our lives, A PRINCIPLED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT OF MANY IS A HISTORIC IMPERATIVE .
Capitalism = supply and demand, unrestrained. What's wrong with it? What's artificial is socialism - assuming there's a natural equilibrium in society. All man, contrary to popular belief, are unequal. There's only one you in this world. No other person can look exactly like you, for example. Do you want to give high level positions to everyone in society or do you want to give it to those who deserve it? Think.
Are you saying that every single business in the capitalist market is uncaring? You only trust the government? If not, you should blame the lack of morals and education in society, not the system of allowing people to take charge of the means of production.
If the business wants to make profit it must be unscrupulous. Both the manufacturer and the customer are to blame for irresponsible means of production; the former one more so.
Why must it be unscrupulous? Because consumers are immoral and cheap? If consumers want healthy, fresh and tasty food, McDonald's would be out of business. It's fat, stupid Americans that make McDonald's one of the biggest restaurant chains in the world.
businesses must be unscrupulous because the money they borrow from banks to get stared isn't or wasn't in the possession of the banks in the first place; banks just push a button and money is made out of thin air.
Say the businesses owner only makes enough to pay for the loan and to pay his/her employees, and to provide for his/her family.
Then some other big businesses defaults on a payment; interest rates go up; the former businesses owner has to lay a person off or risk going into debt.
@cherylwens what we have is not capitalism- its corporatism! Thats whats artificial- the best systems on earth are a nice balance between capitalism and socialism! Just like everything else in life- a blending of the best aspects of thought philosophies beliefs- Nationalizing resources for example is socialist- if done correctly the wealth will go to the people provide jobs and pride- not to shareholders and Ceos who award themselves millions of dollars from other countries resources
Yes? Then that must be why MILLIONS from Latin America & around the world have risked their very lives to come here. ESTUPIDO! The COUNTRY isn't the CRIMINALS, THE GOV'T IS! Instead of you whiners coming here to beg for our welfare, HELP US PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT CRIMINALS TO THROW OFF THIS BUNCH OF THUG BANKSTERS AND WALL-STREET MASS-MURDERERS WHO HAVE HIJACKED AMERICA! Then share the sweet victory of LIBERTY with us, because you will have EARNED IT!
you may laugh at new zealand go ahead make your low smart ass remarks that are so typically "unfunny".
But when some psycho-path pushes the big red button and this whole shit house goes up, guess who will be laughing then?? ay ay. Many in your half of the world will be insinerated. OK, granted some of your filthy radiation will drift over here, but that will take a while ...tick...tick... tick...
americans are so ignorant about chavez. In the US it's full time all the time Orwellian nonsense. It's not their fault (my fellow citizen's) though, theyre worked too hard, educated too little and the private media is so sophisticated in it's obfuscations that only the lucky find out the truth. It's not intelligence that unravels it, it's chance of fate, in fact the intelligent mind is the one that self deceives the most effectively. America is antidemocratic in the world, and that's the truth.
Thank you. Most of the first world countries participate to some extent, wherever the ultra-wealthy hold power, wherever corporations reach around the globe you will find the same diseases.
@mikesbodypolitic "The enormous gap between what US leaders do in the world and what Americans think their leaders are doing is one of the great propaganda accomplishments of the dominant political mythology ...The real danger we face is not from terrorism, but what is being done under the pretext of fighting it." - Michael Parenti
The same thing is happening again in Honduras and these fascist pigs will FAIL again just like they did in their coup against Chavez. The revolt against American imperialism is in full swing!

They did well, Chavez and comunists are evil dictatorship. The Honduras only show how evil comunists are, and how freedom thirsty are peoples from Latin America, after many years of comunists and drugs cartel oppression.

Chavez is a rich, fat, millionaire thug stealing from the poor who never spent a minute in combat. This loud mouthed, freedom crushing fraud reminds me of Ortega.
May I give a hearty "Fuck You!" to all you idots praising this propaganda. Bet not a single one of you has ever been within 1,000 miles of a guerrilla war or lived with the campesinos.
Yea he is a fat "millionaire" who steals from the 'poor' which have no money..and if he did steal it from the poor i don't think it would round up being a million dollars... Ignorance....
The United States has very powerful elites, very INTELLIGENT people that won't give up control of the world. There will be a true democracy when the U.S. loses control, and a new humanistic oriented system be installed, where individualism and competition are not the incentives to innovate or develop technology. Instead, the incentive should be helping others and provide positive externalities for society.
Pretext? the selfish gene we all have, the worst illness that should be eradicated.
The supporters claim democracy gives power 'to all' the people.
The detractors, such as myself, say it has failed because "all" the people don't know what they are doing & then vote on matters that bankrupt us as a people.
i.e. How does allowing a welfare mother with six kids to vote on government spending benefit us?
How does allowing ex-convicts to vote on proposals to increase criminal penalties and enforce existing criminal laws work to benefit us?
A safeguard in democracy that isn't seen in other political systems in that leaders generally don't stay in power for more than a decade. Totalitarian leaders may have started as revolutionaries, but they inevitably become corrupted by the addiction to power. In a healthy democracy there is generally a swing in ideologies, so even when the people get it wrong, there is a swing the other way eventually. This doesn't happen in totalitarian ideologies until social consensus builds up to revolution.
But you do have term limits and young Bush was only in office for two terms. The problem I suspect with the US international policy have been the un-elected bureaucratic officials that advise politicians - these are people who have influence over consecutive governments, who aren't elected, and are pretty much the same kind of people you in a socialist bureaucracy. I suggest it is the bureaucratic elite in both systems that are the problem, not the democratic system itself.

If you want to watch this movie you can watch this video for free on line I do not recommend you waste your money on it. I have never seen such a massive distortion of the facts in my life. The movie is trying to say that the way to promote Democracy is to promote the Communists.
songwriterdad - no the movie is explaining that the american government is imposing dictatorships on countries to preserve their power that they have over the economy and resources of that country and using words like democracy, terrorists and communists as propoganda to try to justify what they do... i guess you are probably an american then?
But what exactly are you willing to do against your government? Anyone who tries gets killed or disappears. You cannot have victory without sacrifice. People just say "we should do this & that", but at the end of the day, they do nothing!
If CHAVEZ needs me to militarily support him against the US I will be there. His policies have stopped the murdering by previously implemented capitalists inhumaine economic policies and changed life for the better for average people world wide. VIVRE CHAVEZ!
Change is made from the ground up, not by a few people calling themselves intellectuals which make up theories as to how to "better the world" (being an international relations student i see these useless actors on the world stage a lot)
We need to take a lesson from Latin America and SPEAK OUT against this colonialism dressed up as liberal democracy.
We all need to grow a pair and let our governments know:
Lets get something straight here.. State Sovereignty is something that should NEVER be tampered with (can I just draw to your attention the word NEVER again).
I'm an Englishman, and im sick to death of seeing my government (and the US government) say they have the worlds interests at heart, while using that "justification" to carry out CRIMINAL schemes which benefit only themselves..
People of the UK + US need to speak out against these human rights abuses.
how right u r but the gov n the people are2 very different things in every country the elitist are the ones making the laws to suit them n send us to fight for their profit as its always been who in his right mind wants to go to war?
"Not a nut or bolt shall reach Chile under Allende. Once Allende comes to power we shall do all within our power to condemn Chile and all Chileans to utmost deprivation and poverty." That's what the US ambassador to Chile, Edward Korry, said when Allende elected. Now Latin America is rising up the same way Eastern Europe rose up against Communism.

Chavez is a dark ages socialist who is currently economically fucking his country in the ass. And we shouldn't do a DAMN THING to stop them. Let 'em do whatever the fuck they want with their own country.

Portraying Chavez as a democratic leader has to be the most macabre joke that someone has ever come up with. I'd recommend anyone wanting to know what Chavez' regime is really like to read and listen to what Teodoro Petkoff, a former member of the Venezuelan communist party, has to say about it.
man governing man whilst simultaneously promoting equality is the greatest hypocrisy in human knowledge. politics CAN'T work. the whole concept of politics is destroying the species and destroying the planet.
I agree with you, but we MUST RECOGNIZE this as well:
WAR is an end goal designed for profit. We must not agree with ANY war CAUSES, as they are INSTIGATED for profit. We are being psychologically deceived into warring. This must be recognized by the citizenry of the world.
definitely. it is the formation of borders, boundaries and differences coupled with unnecessary unification and the idea that "anything different is bad" that creates war in the first place. conflict is natural. there is always competition. but the creation of countries and cultural identity (as a part of political reasoning in general) that poisons the mind into believing that disagreement is a bad thing. we are not all equal, that is the beauty of life.
Your posting gives me an understanding of your ideology.
We must all be equal as human beings, and we have the capability to understand and do such with our complex brains. Unification IS NECESSARY. Ethnocentrism is environmentally enhanced through tradition, and we must recognize that to overcome it.
Disagreement is instigated, and capitalism promotes scarcity and aberrant behavior.
There are enough resources in the world for all, and a resource based economy is the answer.
technically there are not enough resources in the world for a global population of almost 7billion; not naturally anyway. agriculture has aided us greatly. unification is necessary to overcome the rut in which we currently sit, however beyond that (as a part of an actual free society - provided that happens) we could disband and still remain a global society. unification implies political systems, which have never worked throughout history. happy z-day by the way!
yes, bigjesse, technologically we have invented a way to feed the world with very little resources, read up. Also, geothermal energy is most efficient, and renewable at that.
A resource based society would unify us globally, and without elitist greed and an uniformed and gullible citizenry, it could be easily implimented.
Yes, happy Z day. May we all realize that it's all of our responsibility to KNOW how to change the world for the better.
i've studied geothermal energy so i know about the plan of the venus project to tap hawaii and galapagos to power the world. it is food resources that are the problem. if the population of the planet continues to grow further beyond the carrying capacity, it will be more and more difficult to provide resources. i am thinking about the environment, and i'm not suggesting genocide if that's what you're thinking! i'm not that stupid! just caution is all i suggest.
Well then you should know that Geothermal energy is workable. Have you searched the latest tech in agric crops and other tech in rapid food procurement?
of course i know it is workable! i have also studied the latest wind turbine technology and did a little work on solar panel potential, though i'm not sure if the current technology is up to that standard yet. i have looked into super-fertilisers and multi-level plantations, but the environmental repercussions weren't even stated! could you fill me in?
In fact, the world's agriculture as it is now can sustain about 12 billion people, so there's a long way to go before we lack food. When people die of starvation today it's not because there's not enough food on earth, it's because the world's economy is ruled by a mafia whose interest is private profit, not preserving human life. That's what we call globalized capitalism.
The 18 million people who die of hunger every year really are murdered by the world leaders.
i'm not saying that we lack food, i'm saying that the world can't sustain the global human population as well as every other population if we are currently so far beyond it's natural carrying capacity. i agree that the fight for profit is killing more people than every other war in history combined. we also need to understand that we are part of nature too, no matter how much we deny it. the more we focus on catering for ourselves, the more we need to steward the environment at the same time.
yes, and I pray that it stops.....I am so tired of all this....UN-NECESSARY LOSS OF LIFE! this is NOW hitting home, now my small family and myself are literally starving, and it is tough, it sickens me to see this spreading like a terrible, terrible disease across this planet just for the love of power and profit, I pray for the Rapture, I pray for our souls.......
Raising awareness against such systems is one thing, but fighting it is another. Tupac Shakur tried to fight it, and in a few years he just disappeared. He is one American that you should be proud of.
i meant division to individuals, not countries, religions or races. it does not make sense to treat everybody equally if everybody is not equal. i'm not saying treat people disrespectfully, just accept that different people have different talents and should be appreciated as such. i agree with a subsistence-style economy without money, rather than a communist-esque society. if we remain unified, somebody will strive to lead everybody else.
usa and nazi germany is very similar.. sure the usa isnt as bad.. but its similar.. if its not a war on communism or a war on drugs its a war on terrorism.. what is terrorism.. by usa's terms the french resistance in ww2.. the thing that help win ww2.. where terrorists. this is an excellent eye opener. so open your eyes.. watch it
This film shows how the U.S promoted Facist dictators across South America in favour of democratically elected leaders who want to take some of their nations wealth from the Multi-national companies and return it to the people.
The American administration may not be as facist as nazi germany but they do like a good facist, especially one who can make them money.
The U.S. is more like Nazi, Germany than you think, just more subtle in its decpetiveness. Our citizens are being dumbed down and are delusional, subjected to politically pushed social policy backed by powerful religous lobbies and unwarranted patriotism and nationalism, all psychologically pushed by an elistist controlled media. It is all able due to the lack of a proper generalist education.
In summary, we're ruled by an elitiest corportacracy monopoly. EVERYTHING
IS ABOUT PROFIT, even if it destroys human life all over the globe. An example: Disease is the end product when destroyed nutrients in biologically altered vegetables allow pharmacuticals to make billions on medications. This is but one example of a self-inflicted genocide.
Thus, we're not killing jews, we're killing ourselves and warmongering with the rest of the world, with the exception of the Jewish state, whom we back monetarily.
One can't help but figure out who the elitist are.
The elitist are insane, destroying humanity in favor of addiction to the almighty $.
Youre making a very good point, by 'the elitists' i assume you mean people like Kissinger, The bohemian grove people, the neo-conservatives, the ultra-liberals and so on?.
I don't think this Aussie give a fuck about any life in Latin America. He just wants fewer American influences in Australia. By the way, Mr. Pilger, nobody will overthrow your little kangaroo government. Why don't you shut up like Chavez?
By the way, you leftists should stop labeling anyone who criticize Chavez as "fascist" or "american's puppets". I oppose to Chavez does not mean that I support Faux News, Bush's dumbass administration, and US foreign policies.
Communism was already over. Get over it. I criticize Chavez/Morales not because they oppose to the US. Under Chavez, crime rate tripled, corruption widely spread, and the government simply blame everything on Capitalism. (That is the information from European reporters, not CIA. Get over it.)
I like Chilean and Brazilian socialism, not Venezuelan one. That is why even Venezuelan socialism party (which does not funded by CIA) did not support Chavez
Of course communism doesn't work, but then again capitalism hasn't been doing too great recently either. Simple fact is Chavez has been democratically elected, do you ever wonder why people hate the US so much that they vote for people like Chavez, or even get people like Castro and Khomenii into power
There are MORE OPTIONS THAN POPULIST SOCIALISM and AMERICAN CORPORATIONISM. That is why i talk about Chilean and Brazilian government, which practiced socialism in order to REFORM THE SOCIETY rather than INCREASE CORRUPTION. It is not "either you are with us or against us"
I don't understand people like you. Pure Capitalism is a version a Social Darwinism, that is, the survival of the strongest (in this case, the elite, multinationals and large corporations). It used to be ok a decade ago, where most people had a decent job, but as your jobs are being shipped overseas for a small profit more and more people are becoming poor, why do you still fight for a such a pointless cause?
because unfortunately at least in the usa people have very little to do how their country is run whould u expect anything else in a country that its people pay their taxes to a PRIVATE corporation where a PRIVATE bank prints n controls theor money causing booms n ressecion for their own benefit? americans are been sucked dry robbed of their desent standard of living by the elitist thugs now running n controlling the usa
i think he does care some of the documentaries he did risking his life for our information maybe you misunderstand when people blame america its never meant the people as they have FA to do with bush or any us gov. just like everywere
It was proven by not only the uited nations but also by Jimmy Carter to be fair elections. You are a liar, more of an idiot because you believe your lie.
You dumb fuck, Chavez has to be gotten rid of because he stand sin the way of the new world order. perhaps you need to stop listening their propaganda dumb shit.
You have not the slightest clue what you are babbling about, crackpot. You are a member of the sheep herd, believe what the mainstream media sells you as the truth. I could sell your ass to you, and you wouldn't have the faintest idea what's going on.
People like you are the reason why fascism can spread all over the world, you retarded wacko.
lol I didn't complain, I just proved you don't have anyway to defend your "point". Your entire argument has fallen apart, thats 2 know nothing Republicans destroyed in 1 day.
Yeah, I know, you only see the emotions, not the facts, in something written. That's why you're saying I did not defend my point.
What I said about Carter is still true, whether you believe it or not, and whether you can remember I said it, or not.
Just in case you didn't understand my irony: when Carter, friend to dictators around the world, says it was a "fair" election, I just don't believe it. Same about the UN, the club of rogue states.
such a thought provoking documentary.

You deserve everything you get, and when the world has had enough you will have no friends left. Then we will get to hear you whine about how the situation isn't your fault all over again and no one will care. @MarcBrazuca My friend. The American people are not the ones who we should antagonize. It's the government. So your criticism is directed towards banks and loans. What has it got to do with capitalism? Aren't people free to not borrow money? Or do you prefer to loan money from governments instead of private banks?
cherylwens 2 years ago
So perhaps the only way to make profit is to be unscrupulous. You need to pander to the corrupt needs of society after all. Simple supply and demand relationship here.
cherylwens 2 years ago
"Simple supply and demand relationship here. "
and you agree with it?
I think the means of production should be monitored very scrupulously.
That or government issues a list of what and how companies are allowed to produce goods, and they start bidding and trading.
If you want a product on the list get it added in Parliament/ Republic, because as it stands humans are destroying the plant to make frivolous items.
citricsystemz 2 years ago
Life is all about fulfilment and gratification. What's wrong in giving people the freedom to produce and consume? The problem as I've said countless times is anti-intellectualism. If you can get people to produce quality products, get consumers to demand quality products, then you won't end up with the mess we are in now. The idols of society should be philosophers and scientists, not celebrities. When you achieve such a society, this debate over capitalism or socialism no longer matters.

arzoyan 2 years ago
Capitalism = supply and demand, unrestrained. What's wrong with it? What's artificial is socialism - assuming there's a natural equilibrium in society. All man, contrary to popular belief, are unequal. There's only one you in this world. No other person can look exactly like you, for example. Do you want to give high level positions to everyone in society or do you want to give it to those who deserve it? Think.
cherylwens 2 years ago
Capitalism. . . . What's wrong with it?
The irresponsible extraction of resources to feed a machine comprised of unrestricted uncaring citizens.
citricsystemz 2 years ago
Are you saying that every single business in the capitalist market is uncaring? You only trust the government? If not, you should blame the lack of morals and education in society, not the system of allowing people to take charge of the means of production.
cherylwens 2 years ago
If the business wants to make profit it must be unscrupulous. Both the manufacturer and the customer are to blame for irresponsible means of production; the former one more so.
citricsystemz 2 years ago
Why must it be unscrupulous? Because consumers are immoral and cheap? If consumers want healthy, fresh and tasty food, McDonald's would be out of business. It's fat, stupid Americans that make McDonald's one of the biggest restaurant chains in the world.
cherylwens 2 years ago
businesses must be unscrupulous because the money they borrow from banks to get stared isn't or wasn't in the possession of the banks in the first place; banks just push a button and money is made out of thin air.
Say the businesses owner only makes enough to pay for the loan and to pay his/her employees, and to provide for his/her family.
Then some other big businesses defaults on a payment; interest rates go up; the former businesses owner has to lay a person off or risk going into debt.
citricsystemz 2 years ago
@cherylwens what we have is not capitalism- its corporatism! Thats whats artificial- the best systems on earth are a nice balance between capitalism and socialism! Just like everything else in life- a blending of the best aspects of thought philosophies beliefs- Nationalizing resources for example is socialist- if done correctly the wealth will go to the people provide jobs and pride- not to shareholders and Ceos who award themselves millions of dollars from other countries resources

American Democracy has failed.
How does allowing ex-convicts to vote on proposals to increase criminal penalties and enforce existing criminal laws work to benefit us?
robertmartinez 2 years ago
A safeguard in democracy that isn't seen in other political systems in that leaders generally don't stay in power for more than a decade. Totalitarian leaders may have started as revolutionaries, but they inevitably become corrupted by the addiction to power. In a healthy democracy there is generally a swing in ideologies, so even when the people get it wrong, there is a swing the other way eventually. This doesn't happen in totalitarian ideologies until social consensus builds up to revolution.
Adnamira 2 years ago
You didn't answer the two questions :)
And when you do come back, name an example of a country that has the 'safeguard' you describe.
Here in the USA, the "lifer" career politicians snivel that we "need" their expertise and that term limits are harmful.
robertmartinez 2 years ago
But you do have term limits and young Bush was only in office for two terms. The problem I suspect with the US international policy have been the un-elected bureaucratic officials that advise politicians - these are people who have influence over consecutive governments, who aren't elected, and are pretty much the same kind of people you in a socialist bureaucracy. I suggest it is the bureaucratic elite in both systems that are the problem, not the democratic system itself.
Adnamira 2 years ago
I agree that bureaucrats interfere with a genuine democracy.
That said, you didn't answer my two questions.

man governing man whilst simultaneously promoting equality is the greatest hypocrisy in human knowledge. politics CAN'T work. the whole concept of politics is destroying the species and destroying the planet.
bigjesse1985 3 years ago 5
I agree with you, but we MUST RECOGNIZE this as well:
WAR is an end goal designed for profit. We must not agree with ANY war CAUSES, as they are INSTIGATED for profit. We are being psychologically deceived into warring. This must be recognized by the citizenry of the world.
blaziermissy 2 years ago
definitely. it is the formation of borders, boundaries and differences coupled with unnecessary unification and the idea that "anything different is bad" that creates war in the first place. conflict is natural. there is always competition. but the creation of countries and cultural identity (as a part of political reasoning in general) that poisons the mind into believing that disagreement is a bad thing. we are not all equal, that is the beauty of life.
bigjesse1985 2 years ago
Your posting gives me an understanding of your ideology.
We must all be equal as human beings, and we have the capability to understand and do such with our complex brains. Unification IS NECESSARY. Ethnocentrism is environmentally enhanced through tradition, and we must recognize that to overcome it.
Disagreement is instigated, and capitalism promotes scarcity and aberrant behavior.
There are enough resources in the world for all, and a resource based economy is the answer.
blaziermissy 2 years ago
technically there are not enough resources in the world for a global population of almost 7billion; not naturally anyway. agriculture has aided us greatly. unification is necessary to overcome the rut in which we currently sit, however beyond that (as a part of an actual free society - provided that happens) we could disband and still remain a global society. unification implies political systems, which have never worked throughout history. happy z-day by the way!
bigjesse1985 2 years ago
yes, bigjesse, technologically we have invented a way to feed the world with very little resources, read up. Also, geothermal energy is most efficient, and renewable at that.
A resource based society would unify us globally, and without elitist greed and an uniformed and gullible citizenry, it could be easily implimented.
Yes, happy Z day. May we all realize that it's all of our responsibility to KNOW how to change the world for the better.
blaziermissy 2 years ago
i've studied geothermal energy so i know about the plan of the venus project to tap hawaii and galapagos to power the world. it is food resources that are the problem. if the population of the planet continues to grow further beyond the carrying capacity, it will be more and more difficult to provide resources. i am thinking about the environment, and i'm not suggesting genocide if that's what you're thinking! i'm not that stupid! just caution is all i suggest.
bigjesse1985 2 years ago
Well then you should know that Geothermal energy is workable. Have you searched the latest tech in agric crops and other tech in rapid food procurement?
blaziermissy 2 years ago
of course i know it is workable! i have also studied the latest wind turbine technology and did a little work on solar panel potential, though i'm not sure if the current technology is up to that standard yet. i have looked into super-fertilisers and multi-level plantations, but the environmental repercussions weren't even stated! could you fill me in?
bigjesse1985 2 years ago
In fact, the world's agriculture as it is now can sustain about 12 billion people, so there's a long way to go before we lack food. When people die of starvation today it's not because there's not enough food on earth, it's because the world's economy is ruled by a mafia whose interest is private profit, not preserving human life. That's what we call globalized capitalism.
The 18 million people who die of hunger every year really are murdered by the world leaders.
PloughTheSky 2 years ago 7
i'm not saying that we lack food, i'm saying that the world can't sustain the global human population as well as every other population if we are currently so far beyond it's natural carrying capacity. i agree that the fight for profit is killing more people than every other war in history combined. we also need to understand that we are part of nature too, no matter how much we deny it. the more we focus on catering for ourselves, the more we need to steward the environment at the same time.
bigjesse1985 2 years ago 3
yes, and I pray that it stops.....I am so tired of all this....UN-NECESSARY LOSS OF LIFE! this is NOW hitting home, now my small family and myself are literally starving, and it is tough, it sickens me to see this spreading like a terrible, terrible disease across this planet just for the love of power and profit, I pray for the Rapture, I pray for our souls.......

Btw, bigjesse, why are you so eager to claim "not enough resources" when you don't even know the latest technology?
Is it that you've actually started to believe that we should depopulate?
WTF is wrong with people? Slap yourself if you have to, you're in a trance.
There is something very wrong with a society whose citizenry experience apathy in regard to depopulation.
blaziermissy 2 years ago
That division you seek from others is nothing but learned ignorance.
Surely by now our brains have evolved enough to recognize that and re-educate ourselves in regard to such life-thwarting ignorance.
Our separation and division is what will be our demise. Recognize that. It is the very tool used for provoked and instigated wars.
blaziermissy 2 years ago
i meant division to individuals, not countries, religions or races. it does not make sense to treat everybody equally if everybody is not equal. i'm not saying treat people disrespectfully, just accept that different people have different talents and should be appreciated as such. i agree with a subsistence-style economy without money, rather than a communist-esque society. if we remain unified, somebody will strive to lead everybody else.
bigjesse1985 2 years ago
Democracy, while an ideal, is a product of civilization, not of evolution. Go slowly! select carefully! for the dangers of democracy are:
1. Glorification of mediocrity.
2. Choice of base and ignorant rulers.
3. Failure to recognize the basic facts of social evolution.
4. Danger of universal suffrage in the hands of uneducated and indolent majorities.
5. Slavery to public opinion; the majority is not always right.

I oppose to Chavez does not mean that I support Faux News, Bush's dumbass administration, and US foreign policies.
inferno0020 3 years ago
That's a cheek, anyone who speaks out against the way America has treated latin America is automatically labelled a 'commie'.

That is why even Venezuelan socialism party (which does not funded by CIA) did not support Chavez
inferno0020 3 years ago
Of course communism doesn't work, but then again capitalism hasn't been doing too great recently either. Simple fact is Chavez has been democratically elected, do you ever wonder why people hate the US so much that they vote for people like Chavez, or even get people like Castro and Khomenii into power
judgedredd123 3 years ago
There are MORE OPTIONS THAN POPULIST SOCIALISM and AMERICAN CORPORATIONISM. That is why i talk about Chilean and Brazilian government, which practiced socialism in order to REFORM THE SOCIETY rather than INCREASE CORRUPTION. It is not "either you are with us or against us"
inferno0020 3 years ago
I don't understand people like you. Pure Capitalism is a version a Social Darwinism, that is, the survival of the strongest (in this case, the elite, multinationals and large corporations). It used to be ok a decade ago, where most people had a decent job, but as your jobs are being shipped overseas for a small profit more and more people are becoming poor, why do you still fight for a such a pointless cause?
marktube10 3 years ago
because unfortunately at least in the usa people have very little to do how their country is run whould u expect anything else in a country that its people pay their taxes to a PRIVATE corporation where a PRIVATE bank prints n controls theor money causing booms n ressecion for their own benefit? americans are been sucked dry robbed of their desent standard of living by the elitist thugs now running n controlling the usa

Hugo Chavez is an example of what democracy is.
Allaxxiana 3 years ago
Yes, Chavez is the people, so he can call his dictatorship "democracy". It's like French king Louis XIV: "L'état, ce moi".
jwezel 3 years ago
there was no dictatorship, you are a liar
RazorVrakking 3 years ago
For a fascist there is no such thing as a dictatorship.
jwezel 3 years ago
It was proven by not only the uited nations but also by Jimmy Carter to be fair elections. You are a liar, more of an idiot because you believe your lie.
RazorVrakking 3 years ago
Do you mean the Carter that is good friend to any dictator in the world, eg. Castro?
Do you mean the UN that watched as 800000 tutsis died? That UN?
You're a pussy because you believe every lie the New World Order media discharges.
jwezel 3 years ago
You dumb fuck, Chavez has to be gotten rid of because he stand sin the way of the new world order. perhaps you need to stop listening their propaganda dumb shit.
RazorVrakking 3 years ago
You have not the slightest clue what you are babbling about, crackpot. You are a member of the sheep herd, believe what the mainstream media sells you as the truth. I could sell your ass to you, and you wouldn't have the faintest idea what's going on.
People like you are the reason why fascism can spread all over the world, you retarded wacko.
jwezel 3 years ago
Did I destroy your argument so much you had to result to insults? Learn before you rant.
RazorVrakking 3 years ago
You just confirmed you're a pussy. Only pussies say
"Don't call me names, asshole!"
or
"WHY ARE YOU SO AGRESSIVE? TELL ME! COME ON!"
I think it's better we continue when you wake up.
jwezel 3 years ago
lol I didn't complain, I just proved you don't have anyway to defend your "point". Your entire argument has fallen apart, thats 2 know nothing Republicans destroyed in 1 day.
RazorVrakking 3 years ago
Yeah, I know, you only see the emotions, not the facts, in something written. That's why you're saying I did not defend my point.
What I said about Carter is still true, whether you believe it or not, and whether you can remember I said it, or not.
Just in case you didn't understand my irony: when Carter, friend to dictators around the world, says it was a "fair" election, I just don't believe it. Same about the UN, the club of rogue states.
jwezel 3 years ago
Okay I can respect that. Let's just both say fuck the new world order.
