  • Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or do the weapons seem to use sprites instead of models? The lack of frame interpolation is one thing, but look at the weapon sway while you're running; it just looks like an image tilting left/right.

  • You care correct. The N64 version's weapon animation is brutal because of the boneheaded decision to use sprite versions of the models for the weapons. It still doesn't excuse or explain the lack of animation in the enemies though.

  • this game brings back memories to me but is the fucking best game ever i played in my 7

  • Is it really stupidly difficult? FPSs are hard enough to play with two analog sticks, and the N64 only had one. Trying to decide if I should get it or if I'll just go fucking nuts trying to control it.

  • @wotanzorz The N64's controller is strangely awesome for FPS games. Generally the analog stick & middle trigger shoot, and the C-Buttons move you.

  • Actually... I don't see much dynamic lighting going on here, and where are the nice little lens flares? And linear texel sampling just doesn't work with those low-res textures.

  • Quake is one of those games that I think Is meant to be played on PC and PC only. Any other console ports just don't give off the same vibe.

  • @FeudalMoon the saturn was a very impressive port

it has some new textures and brand new secret levels and all levels are there

  • Loading on N64!!! wow just wow

  • Wow, I played that like no tomorrow back in the day

  • I should pick this up with some other FPS's I missed on the N64. All I played was Goldeneye, World is not Enough, and Perfect Dark.

  • I completed this game recently, and thought it was shit. The PS version is a lot better, and I'm a bit of an N64 fanboy!

  • Better than PC.

    Awesome.

    n64 rocks

  • Lolz hard is the best difficulty! i love a challenge!

  • lolz, i do that level in a different way lol

  • n64 version is as good as the others. And has creepy music

  • My favorite stage, i played this a longtime ago.

  • Once you get past the interpolation problems, this game's pretty fun. Fairly linear, but still fun for a while. Really, both console versions aren't without their flaws, anyway.

  • not a whole lot of strafing but didnt seem like you needed it haha

    very nice

  • Wow, no interpolation on the animation frames...

  • reminds me of doom :P ...theres like...what 2 frames for each gunshot animation?

  • ahhh my first game ive ever played, quake rulz

  • quake2 for the n64 was off the hook, all you guys hatin dont know what youre talking about!

  • I'D like 2 c more N64 Q2

  • Wow, this port SUCKS! The gun animations are choppy, the sound clips for guns and enemies are garbage quality, the hud is FUGLY, and a bunch of the maps are just recycled from Quake II on PC. The only versions that do Quake II justice are PC and maybe N64.

  • this is n64

  • haha no shit... you can't expect N64 to have todays games graphics... or the latest quake 2 graphics... that's asking WAY too much!

  • Pretty bad game. Bad control, blurry texturing, awful animation on everything, and way too short (although this was probably a good thing). This game got way too much praise when it came out. Quake 64 is marginally better.

  • Absolutely true. :)

I honestly don't know how or why they could've fucked it up. Taking out hubs, taking out half the frames of animation, and blurring the graphics, even with the memory expansion.

  • I agree. It's the controles I hate the most about this port. My brother warned me not to buy it, But I bought it anyway. I'm sorry I did :(

  • Honestly You guys have no idea how fun quake2 for PC is.. To be honest Quake on Nintendo not so great.. maybe because the N64 Wasn't that powerful in graphics and such!

  • I play all of these games on the PC as well. And yes, PC Quake is very fun. But that doesn't mean the others are just as fun, but in a different way.

A good game is a good game no matter the system. Instead of playing just one version of Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Descent, and such. Why not just enjoy them all?

It's different flavors of the same great brand of ice cream.

  • Actually the N64 kicked the Playstation's ass in graphics power.

  • Yeah, but the N64 is missing frames of animation.

  • yeah i agree but Playstation its sucks in

    graphics

  • @l33tpete

    nah,not at all.

    watch a ps1 quake 2 video.

  • @hodoupmer I've PLAYED the PS1 version. It only output its video at 320x240, and didn't support hardware rendering so everything looked pixelated.

  • @l33tpete too bad the cartridges didnt hold up to what cd's did

  • @Shucaybias Oh yeah CDs were impressive storage devices. N64's graphics hardware had the PSX beat anyday.

  • @l33tpete well not all N64 shooter are not as good as some PSX shooters

    like quake 2

    N64 port---blury wall graphics_enemy animations are poor_bad control

PSX port---AWESOME MUSIC_nice colorful colors_enemy animation is perfect

  • @l33tpete but playstation has much better games

  • @killkenny5000 Not really.

  • @l33tpete how

    u got crash bandicoot-metal gear solid-resident evil-medal of honor-doom-tomb raider-rainbow six-army men-alone in the dark-street fighter-mortal kombat-quake-star wars and all that shit

  • @killkenny5000 Pretty much all of those were on the N64 and PC as well.

  • @l33tpete not metal gear solid-crash bandicoot- medal of honor

  • @l33tpete true but since how they fucked up quake

quake on saturn and quake 2 on PSX is better than quake 64 and quake 2 64

  • @l33tpete who the hell needs graphics

playstation gives awesome gameplay than N64

  • Wow, a cartridge game that has a loading bar.

  • Consoles do have a way of ruining great pc games...

  • nice vid though, and i love this level, and i hate the Tank it takes so long to kill and its weapons r powerful

  • everyone knows its called Quad Damage not Power Ampliphier >=l

  • learn to spell before you criticize people

  • He makes a valid point. And he doesn't need a lecture from an spelling nazi.

  • The Footsteps of that huge monster still scare me. And the shotgun blasts are still the best sounding to me.

  • This game actually had a use for doing head/chest shots with the Super Shotgun on those "tresspasser" guys with clubs on their arms. It made them fly back.

  • "tresspasah"

  • the N64 version wasn nearly as good as the PC version

  • I agree. Console ports are way easier than PC versions.

  • They have to be. You can't aim as precisely with a console controller as you can with a computer mouse. Which is why lots of console FPS games have auto-aim functions, especially the older ones (I haven't encountered a recent FPS with any kind of auto-aim).

  • it looks way different to the pc one

  • it's basically a quake 2 expansion pack.

  • Quake II on N64 was a completely different game from the PC version.

  • One more reason to get it on N64. Something new.

  • nice

  • i got quake 2 4 the ps1 but i play it on ps2 so there is a bit better quality

  • Quake 2 on N64 is a whole new experince but still a whole lot of quake 2!

  • quake 2 was for N64???

  • and for psx too

  • elbryan, are you going to do the full speed run??

  • I doubt it, I don't have much time for that much dedication to just one game. Eventually I want to show the whole game though.

  • I remember playing this game as a kid.

  • Why Does The Weapons Move Funny While You Shoot in The N64 Version?

  • Because in the N64 version, you can run and walk.

  • Actually, it's because there are less animation frames. There's no idle frames when you're not moving either. When you see the hyperblaster on the N64, it looks all kinds of messed up. Full 30-40 frames per second, half the animation. It really bothers me playing this version.

  • I've never used joystick move before. Just the joystick look, with autorun on. So I've never noticed if it has different animation or not.
