  • Just beat The Great Palace today!! I made a vow to beat all the 2D Zeldas this year and rose to the challenge. Thanks Kwing your in depth reviews and respect for retro games gave me the push to get em finished. Give this game a chance it has much to offer and some good exploring as well.

  • I used to be an adventurer too, then I tools an arrow to the knee

  • @GeekF8 When I was playing Skyward Sword I would literally purposefully get hit by archers in the knee for fun.

  • I liked the original Zelda game better than the sequel too, but I would give Zelda 1 a 9/10 and Zelda 2 an 8.5/10

  • I like this game better than the first

  • Say, KWing, what's your favorite Zelda game? And are you playing the excruciating Dark Souls game?

  • Loved the little extra part at the end. Made me smile a bit. ^^

  • 1:14 I actually just beat this guy earlier today (the version released for Ambassadors on Sept. 1st). He actually wasn't that hard. I only jumped on his head and used downward thrust to easily get to the other side.

  • Ok the score is actually great for it's day, there were games on the nes that has music that was WAY worse

  • I think new gamers have lost patience with their gaming. That is why they hate games like this. They think it's bad because it has challenge in it. Very sad actually:(

  • @zachharbi The game doesn't conform to your level of skill. It forces you to better yourself. Nobody wants to do that these days.

  • Actually, you're gonna have an angry mob outside your window because you didn't give this a 10/10!

  • nyah haha! he turns blue when you use thunder spell, and then he is vulnerable! like pac-man!

  • it's not such a shity zelda game, it's just that it was released at the wrong time if it had better graphics, music and a much better storyline, I bet my left nut this would have beaten ocarina of time in terms of epicness

  • the ghosts are poe's

  • yea i agree with this guys review

  • Cool review and i just love this game too!!!!

    HARDEST ZELDA EVER!!!! period.

  • i hate the CDI zelda games

  • Argh, zelda 2 is one of my favourites! Only thing I see thats bad in it is the music, the rest is madnifficent. I loved the sword combat, thats when they tried to make it more challenging. Also the reason I love zelda 2 is the hyrule overall concept :P

  • who is the white bitch guy on my screen

  • 10/10, dude.

    >:(

  • 16 people pull spikes out of links tush

  • Healed by women? Is it like getting healed in Grand Theft Auto when you get a girl into your car???

  • @2r3tard3d

No women in the middle ages were like Nurses. Not street walkers. A women needed to know how to cook, clean, raise children, educate and knowledge of aiding ones health.

  • Love the bloopers! Wish they were in more of your vids.

  • Awesome...

  • i'm 12 and i love this game :D

  • I´m 12 and i love Zelda 2!

  • I just don´t get people that don´t like this game!

  • @iNils1 People don't like variety. If something isn't exactly the same, it sucks. Or how they say it, "not as good as the others" while still saying they hate it entirely.

Most people who bash Zelda 2 because of its differences are usually the same people who love games like Super Mario RPG or Donkey Kong Country. Those games aren't ANYTHING like their predecessors, so why hate Zelda 2? Unlike Mario and DK, Zelda only had ONE GAME before this one! They style wasn't even set yet!

  • @uknownada Perfect answer :P I´m playing A Link To The Past right now and i really wonder why ALL Zelda games after were either overview or 3-D. Thank god they were great! Also, people who don´t like Zelda 2, are probably pretty inpatient. You need practise. Just to have a chance beating Thunderbird (I still beat it on my first try lol) i had to farm expeirience point for like 30 minutes. Also, one thing i really like about Zelda 2 is that it´s considered to be very hard=I must beat it!

  • Just got myself a Wii and tore through that game without dying even once. Decided to bring out my old NES and play Adventure of Link for more of a challenge. Died during the first palace. Love the challenge and exploration factor though! It should also be praised for the innovations it brought to the Zelda series. Magic spells, plethora of NPC's to talk to get hints and various towns. Great game.

  • I agree with you completely. I just give give this game an 8/10. Mainly because it challenged me unlike most Zelda titles. This gen of gamers just doesn't understand the true meaning of challenge.

  • the death system sucks i think thats the reason why people don't like this game cuz you have to start all the way back at the palace from dying from something so simple from far far.... far away. lol

  • you have alotta spoilers you should of put a warning in the vid for those who haven't played it.

  • @Uaint80sLOL spoilers? There's practicly no story in the game, all that back story is in the manual and all those features he talks about become apparent within the first five minutes. I fail to see how this review has spoilers

  • I thought the overworld and the temple music was great. Kind of agree with you on the boss music. Could have been better. But still aight.

  • first zelda game i beat on gameboy.

  • SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!1 NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i don't get why the first sequels of the best nes games suck so bad, mario 2, zelda 2, castlevania 2

  • @Supertomiman mario 2 was ok....

  • I feel Zelda II would be alot better with a Different game name. Its difference fom Zelda 1 made it a little worse

  • Nice review man.

  • It's true that you need to complete death mountain before you can get to the third palace, but if you are wise with your MP and cast Shield every time you're about to fight one of those guys who throws axes at you, you should be able to get the hammer without even dying once. There are even two full mana potions on the way for you, so you can be pretty liberal with your MP usage.

  • Ugh. I disagree with virtually everything this guy has said. As for the music in this game, I thought it was excellent and complimented this game nicely, and yes, I compose music and know a thing or two about it myself. As for the bosses, the ONLY one I found difficult was the fat guy with the spiked helmet and mace that you said was easy. What's hard about him is how quickly he can swing at you, and it doesn't give you enough time to get away.

  • As for the horseman boss and Dark Link without cheating, well, the horseman boss is incredibly easy if you use the jump-duck-swing tactic, and Dark Link is entirely doable without cheating by using the same tactic. Also, the best level-up area relatively early in the game is right at the start of the third palace, where you can hit the statue and either heal your magic or fight a darknut which gives you 100 exp.

  • the music of this game sounds really good to me. the only part i hate in this game is when going to the last area, getting past the floating eyes is soooooooo hard that you lose all ur lives basically before you even get into the last castle xD.

  • a+b at the same time breaks enemies defenses xD

  • What do you think is going on in the houses when getting healed???

  • @gabriel666669 "sexual healing"

  • @hold4190 i know i was thinking thats how they heal link

  • If you time your jump perfect you can jump and strike the spike helmet goliath. You just have to connect with his upper chest while not connecting with his head.

  • good revisionist history

  • sorry u just look so much like a guy i know named jeremy

  • i beat this game twice with no walkthru and im only 12! and also is ur real name jeremy?

  • @dwiese1998

    Luke.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 ur hot

  • @pandalicious41

    Thankyou Mia.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 :) i love ur name luke

  • @kNIGHTWING01 whats your opinion on skyward sword?

  • @dwiese1998

This is the first RPG game I've ever played and it's the game that got me into ZELDA and RPG's in general. I also beat it at around 11 or 12 yrs old - so to those of you who whine about it being "hard" or "too hard", you need to bow your heads in shame.

I also agree with the 7/10 score, I don't think this game is any better or worse than that.

Also, I didn't like the original Zelda, but the third one on SNES was the best one - after that they got gay. Too "kiddie" for me.

  • @PentruRasaAlba Lol, think about majora's mask. Its not that kiddie. Theres a lot of death and drama involved!

  • The second you said that ALttP was the best in the series, I squeed. SQUEEEE!

  • how would we not have OoT if zelda 2 wasn't made?

  • i got this game for the vc. i was wrong.... but the good memories of this game made me love it cuz it was the 1st zelda game i owned. the game is hard but really fun

  • Good review, although I disagree with you about the music. I thought the music was brilliant especially the palace theme

  • Zelda ll gets a 10/10!!

    Yeah!

  • @GreenTh5nder

Cool, sorry its a little blurry though. Older video, I learn Pinnalce 12 makes Nes and Snes games look blurry.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 The red reptile men is called Lizafals

  • @kNIGHTWING01 You can make a Super Mario Galaxy 2 with two people review

  • @TheTenjin666

Lack of swearing means I have integrity and intelligence. I don't swear because I don't swear on and off camera. Also swearing is un professional. Im all about being professional so, its not even a thought that enters my mind. Thanks for the question though, especially part about me being funny =)

  • @kNIGHTWING01 I actually really appreciate your not swearing in your reviews. AND your ability to still convey how frustrating a game can get WITHOUT swearing :)

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Only David GIlmour of Pink Floyd can swear proffessionally. He sounds like a gentle man when he says " Then told us we were going to build F****ing great wall over us..."

  • @dominoesandtin i know. hes the best

  • eh, this game isn't bad. but i'm not too big of an zelda II fan. i'd like it better if it weren't so hard.

  • well if it wasnt for the CDi Zelda then this game would probably be one of or the worst.

  • I don't know where you're from, but when I was a kid nobody cared that it was a "departure from the original" or that "Koji Kondo didn't do the music", come on...this game is a classic and it's a mistake to try to review it through the eyes of a modern gamer. When I was a kid nobody had a single bad thing to say about this game, it was just Zelda 2 and it was awesome, nobody cared about the little details you're picking about 20 years after the fact, a lot of reviewers forget how that felt.

  • hes called ruubeck

  • I'd give it a 8/10.

  • this is also on gba

  • Mah boi, Zelda II is what all true warriors strive for!

  • I watched both parts of your review and you forgot to mention that zelda 2's Link isthe blueprint for the main link character in super smash bros. If it wasn't for zelda 2, Link wouldn't have his epic down thrust to whip up on mario with. In my opinion, zelda 2 is the best zelda game out of them all, just the opening story seems far deeper than most of the others. I'm sure if it got a well made remake for the DS or Wii, it would finally get the recognition it deserves.

  • I agree with you on that one, Zelda 2, is not the worst Zelda game, but it IS the worst Zelda game made by Nintendo.

And that is a good thing, at least Nintendo made a stuff up with Zelda that was not really that bad.

The worst game Nintendo made huge stuff-ups with would be those educational Mario games and the educational Donkey Kong game on the NES. DK Jur Math, Mario is Missing and Mario in time are the WORST games Nintendo made.

Thankfully Zelda 2 is no whay near that bad.

  • I give this game a 10/10.

  • Those little flying enemies, the Moas, they are easy as hell. It's called patience. This game shows you that rushing straight through every screen will get you killed faster than hell. The rock throwing guys are easy too. The trick is to turn around, and run the other way. With a little skill you can get through those screens unharmed. For me, this game gets a 9.5/10. It has a few minor flaws, but nothing big.

  • I FINNALY BEAT THIS GAME!

Level 8 all stats and finnaly beat dark link

  • What zelda game is worse than this one?

  • Although I like the original "Zelda" FAR more, this is still a great sidescroller. In fact, I kind of judge it on it's own, rather among the series since it's so different.

  • the only reason you don't like it is because you suck at it! its an awesome game!!!! its better then the fist and links awakening and all the gameboy titles combined! i am not trying to be mean but, its not as hard as it seems...i know i know its very very hard but once you get the hang of it and get lots of level ups its cake...except for the great palace it dose not mater how good you are its still the hardest dungeon i have ever played in every game in the world!

  • zelda II for me is 11/10! the reason why is, because its just so different for the game series. going from the original movement to side scrolling was just awesome! the dungeon design was better then the first one for me, the music(i mean, the overworld theme is not anywhere close to as good as the original theme)but it just has awesome music and just wonderful design, and last......its just a really awesome game and a real challenge and a real adventure. shigeru miyamoto, you are a genus

  • you suck!!!! the cave music and the palace and the great palace and the village were all awesome tracks!!!!!! just the overworld was a disappointment. and no offence but your only a great walkthrough-er-wrer is you know the names of the enemies.

  • this game is actually one of my favorite games

  • Would it have hurt if Link's sword was just a couple centimeters longer?

  • Are you using an emulator or game genie at the end? Because you are at 8 for everything while you are in Parapa Palace. Or did you just spend several hours leveling up?

  • @TheLinkistheman

I grinded a bit to level up and then started recording after I was done.

  • I actually liked the music regardless if Koji Kondo didn't make it; its actually my favorite of the series

  • Have you been to the big house? or was it big castle?

  • Comment removed

  • i hate getting to the end of a dungeon, dying, then having to get to it and through it all over again

  • ...? I think 7 is right. The game just lacks secrets and all that, it's ok for it. If you count the CD-i games, there would be 0/10 in zelda world, MAH BOI! but I don't know, I don't even count those pieces of shit. I wonder what's for dinner...

  • I give all Zelda games 10/10! 7/10 doesn't exist in the Zelda world, Moron!

  • I must be the only 14 year old that does not care of graphics/difficulty/whatever.

I would rather play any old NES game over a next gen, all my friends say that all old Zelda games suck! I disagree so much with them, Zelda 2 is a amazing game...

  • Your not the only 14 year old i agree gameplay is the most important aspect of any game!

  • @lordoftheringsfan100 im 13 and i agree. gameplay is important. and so does replay value

  • @lordoftheringsfan100 I agree, I'm Lping the game, it's an old childhood favorite (collecters addition) I love it!

  • @lordoftheringsfan100 we're 3 then !!

  • @kitrikimaluket01 Indeed!

  • @lordoftheringsfan100

lol Im also 14 and love old video games. (zelda II is my fav)

  • @crazyiproshow no i am 14 years old and i completely agree with you this and zelda 1 and 3 are the best ever! graphics are just showing off, like the ps3 the games are so goodly detailed that it looks like its a live action movie, but the game play will never compare to the legend of zelda and mario AND ALL THE OLD SCHOOL NINTEDO GAMES!!!

  • @crazyiproshow I'm also 14 and I agree with you

  • @crazyiproshow exactly what happens to me with my friends lol

  • @crazyiproshow I'm 26 and I played Ocarina and most Zelda games but I never quite got into them the way I did Adventures of LInk. Same goes for shooter games which I don't get into. I know lots of people didn't like it but Zelda II is my personal favorite.

  • @crazyiproshow

did u own a retro cnsole as a kid?

  • @crazyiproshow well your wrong i'm 14 and i like old game more than new games. actually the only reason why my n64 broke was because it had more than1300hr of game play......i'm kinda sad it broke sense it's my first game system

  • @crazyiproshow Don't worry; I would much rather play an old N64, NES, SNES, or Gamecube game rather than a Halo game or some other next gen game. So, you're not alone.

  • @crazyiproshow You're not the only one. I'm 13 (almost 14) and I think that I'm the only one in the town (huge city) to play games created before 1990. I even heard someone calling me dumb beacuse I play Super Smash Bros.

  • Zelda 2 is my favorite Zelda game.

  • This is way harder then the 1st Zelda game! I think the origonal Zelda taked me 6 hours and this one like 14!

  • also for the reptile rock throwerrs...just zig zag your way through, and you ll be able to miss the rocks..what s so hard about that? i mean you figured out all the difficult things.,, i bet you could surely figure that one out.

  • classic game...like i said in my previous post...7/10 is surely a bad rating for this game..anything less than 10 is pointless....back in the days before the internet and guides, and when you really had to engage time to finish a game...took me a year to finish...

  • I would say 9/10 not 7 but its your review.

  • people now days dont like it because its hard....

  • I use the NES Retroport for using my NES Advantage and NES 2 Dogbone controller when playing on the Wii,but I also have another secret weapon(s) that monsterviolence was a wrong about a strategy guide, back then IT'S CALLED NINTENDO POWER!!, not to mention the fact that NP put out the NES Game Atlas guide that has all the maps for Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. Not to mention Zelda 2 had a second quest, but you only got to keep you magic and sword attacks sadly no new dungeons.

  • Something really important you forgot to add is that there was no strategy guide or internet back in 1988 when this game came out. So, my generation has to be given more credit for having no help to beat this.

I say this because this game's environment is so big that you would be lost at first play. Plus, there is a hidden acropolis level and a town passage in the trees which are crucial to find to beat this game. Those were extremely painful to figure out back in the days.

  • Man you're right, I forgot to mention that. I will have a little rant about that in Ghouls and Ghosts for Season 4. We didn't have game faqs until mid 90s. We did have the Nintendo Hot line for a few yrs though and Nintendo Power. Nice to meet a fellow old school gamer like myself! Thanks for the great comment =D

  • Reviewer... Everything you are saying is absolutely true because I figured it all out when I was 7 after trying to beat this 100 times. It is true that most people think this game was impossible to beat because of the shadow boss [way at the end]. Cornering yourself and aiming for your shadow's feet is exactly what I did. In fact, it is the only way to beat the last boss, period...

  • the cdi games follow the same gameplay as this game's. and they ARE Zelda games, unfortunately.

  • Dude, Zelda II is the greatest single game ever made in the history of the world!!! How dare you not give this game a 10/10? I remember saving my money to buy this game and it rocks to this day. All those problems you encountered are because you just can't play. Man, watching the game, if that is you playing then you suck big time. 20 years ago I was better than that. Gripes aside though: Great review.

  • i listened to the music of this game and, though the boss tunes were lame and repetitive, the majority of it seems to be good enough for an 8-bit Zelda game.

  • hey I thought he was going to talk about his secret for points ? where was it

  • Badazz clip bud...

Oh before I forget i found a download site where you can get new games for any

console. Click on My Name and it explains it to you.

  • they should have given you a healing spell in Link to the Past too.

  • It is the best zelda game.

  • the best zelda IMO .

  • I like all of the Zelda games, except the CD-i ones of course but we all know how bad those are.

I can't wait for Spirit Tracks and the new one for the Wii that they recently gave the official confirmation on!

Anyway, good review. I actually agree with you on a lot of aspects. The music could have been better, and some parts are frustrating to the point of wanting to throw a controller at a wall, but over all it was a good game still, just not one of the best. What do you think about WW and TP?

  • this game was the best on nes and so many good old memories.....

  • rock throwers are easy, you just throw their aim off by actually trying to dodge them... instead of charging forward like a moron.

  • They should remake this game, but keep the originality it has.

    That would be game.

  • holy shit, they really should!

  • lol bloopers

  • Isn't the eyeball enemies like the Medusa heads in Castlevania?

  • being piss easy isnt an issue?

  • Heh heh...well...

  • 7/10!?!?!?

WTF this game is awesome if you can appericiate the greatness of the game so what if the music is bad just turn the volume down(exept for the dungion theme that was awesome) and as for the lizard men just use the fairy spell than go to new kastro to heal your magic.

  • Comment removed

  • I used to hate the graphics in Wind Waker too. But, when I got the GC Zelda Collector's Edition and played the 10 minute demo, I changed my mind when I was sailing an open world.

  • I actually had more problems with the first Zelda game than this one. Then again I didn't grow up with Zelda. This one I did. After a while it feels as if you can beat everyone with that jump and attack combo. It was just amazing how you could change your attack pattern in mid-air after learning the up and down stab attacks. Too bad you couldn't go past level 8. Great review but personally I really liked the music in this game.

  • lol, getting "healed" by the women in the towns.

  • What are the CDI zelda games??

  • watch the avgn cdi reviews

  • Also, they're the second most popular material for Youtube Poop (the first being the CD-i game frickin Hotel Mario).

  • Knightwing Happy 100th review. Are you planning on doing a review of Zelda Wind Waker and Zelda Twilight Princess?

  • I like this game better than Link to the Past, I don't care what any one says. :D

  • I agree

  • Let's just say this is the forgotten Zelda game. and if you ask me, it remains forgotten, and if you ask me a second time i think its time we forget about Zelda CD-i.

It just don't feels like Zelda to me. Beside your name is link, you have to save zelda, and your looking for a triforce

  • the Medusa heads from your castlevania reviews came back for revenge in the form of floating eye balls

    0.o!

    great review man

  • Comment removed

  • give it kinda a brake u commeners its only the second game you cant compare it to games after it

  • matthology, how can you be not much of a Zelda fan?

  • im not much of a zelda fan but i like this game as it is some enemys r realy cheap but thats cus im really bad at nes games. nice job kwing

  • is this same as original NES?

Sorry I not watch this review whole.

I m just shocked that RELEASING such old game again??

    OMG!

if I ever decide to play Zelda 2... Well.. I not sure why it never took my attention? I tried like every NES game on emulator and like 100 of them took my attention. Also I won through over 150 games playing NES(i had dendy classic console - it's NES).

  • zelda 2 was not alone metroid 2 and super mario bros 2 (American version) were both not what the other games live up to yet still pretty good (except for super mario bros 2 american)

  • Ehich=Which.
