  • i thought gay meant happy?

  • Im here because of Green day

  • I'm here because of 120 Minutes on MTV back in the late 80's. MTV used to be a window into the world of the unknown to us kids from rural America back then. If you lived in a small community, devoid of culture in any sense, you found anyone wanting to escape the status quo searching for these windows. Mine was 120 Minutes. That brought me to The Lemonheads. Lemonheads to Mudhoney. Mudhoney to Nirvana. Nirvana to The Pixies. The Pixies to Sugar. Sugar to Bob. Bob to Husker Du.

  • I'm here thanks to Dave Grohl

  • 0:17 "That's the IDS building...see that big glass one? Tallest skyscraper in the Midwest after the Sears...uh...Chicago...John Hancock building, whatever."

  • @newzerokarolina "Man, you are a FOUNTAIN of conversation, a real geiser!"

  • This makes me want to cry in reminence of all the great memories I never had with "college rock" in the 80s (I'm only 15).

  • @VanderGraafBozo Don't worry, there is hope. You just gotta know where to look. For example, check out this new band Kicking Spit. Basically the sound of Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr, and everything awesome about 80s hardcore in a blender.

  • @VanderGraafBozo

I'm 22 and I barely saw any of the 80s and didn't have a chance to experience the 80s college rock scene as well but I love bands like the Pixies, Husker Du, and Dinosaur Jr.

  • "She said Husker got huge, but they started in St. Paul. Do you remember Makes No Sense At All."

  • Amazing in this band is the fact that they sound like comforting never mind-ing trip on which you want to make your life better.

  • Hey,what's the name of the song that starts after Makes No Sense At All finishes??? Anyone know???

  • @BoltertheSplitEnzwiz It's the Mary Tyler Moore song, right?

  • @mwaters660 Correct. Title is "Love is All Around"

  • Makes me feel good to be from the Twin Cities.

  • I wanted to see this after seeing the Husker Du guy in the Foo Fighters movie "Back and Forth"

  • "Husker du" means "do you remember" in norwegian :P

  • early foofighters,,, wink wink

  • @thecelticmist no just no

  • I've always loved the screaming that's deep in the background of the mix of this mary tyler moore theme cover

  • Norton: Hellamazing bass player, coolest lip toupée.

  • these guys are similar to early green day... hmm

  • @924joegilman Never.

  • is that the theme from the Mary Tyler Moore show at the end?

  • @WoodyAllenNY Yeah, they did a cover of it as a B-side. Also, did a kickass cover of Eight Miles High.

  • killer

  • Ahh, Minneapolis memories...

  • If you like this band you should give China Drum a listen. The mustach toting bass player in this band is legend.

  • The drummer looks like my history teacher

  • @SoyKredes ---cause you're a turd that's why...stick to glam and metal, there you can be with as much rockstars as you want

  • they all look like future pedophiles.... but i like the song

  • Repeat button rape - accomplished!

  • :3) <<bassist

  • hahah, i think my dad told me years ago.. that everyone is the band is gay, except for the the bassist guy with the mustache -- who looks the most gay!

i aways thought that was funny.

  • you're right that is funny, kind of like the only guy in ZZ Top without a beard has the last name BEARD

  • @THX1138hxc it doesnt matter if the are gay or not HuskerDu or Prince?now whose gay?

  • HALF MUSTACHE!

  • :30 fez with a stach?

  • 30 people don't like this video...it makes no sense at all.

  • And the origin of the hipster mustache has been revealed.

  • 30 ignorant bu66ers at this time!

  • 1st grunge ever!

  • Gotta love 1:00-1:02!

  • First thing I ever saw or heard by them, I was like 13. Of course that was 6 years ago, but still...amazing catchy stuff!

  • ...and it's neil peart on bass

  • i here cause of a bowling for soup song

  • This song and video is great. Bob Mould is one of my all time favorite songwriters.

  • ...and 19 complete fucknuts have visited here.

  • just a brilliant band. they deserved more.

  • Love the lady at 2:30..there's always one of them at the shows

  • @MeredithAlice THAT's GRANT HART''S MOM

  • Makes no sense it all on Why this minneapolis punk band had to retire at a early stage Along with the Replacements the best

  • @ruggsville59 i think they retired at just the right time, their last album was pretty damn good, but if they kept going they would have become more overproduced and less raw. part of being a good band is knowing when to throw in the towel, and Husker Du did so at just the right time.

  • @MjXllcommando Plus if they stayed together any longer, Bob and Grant probably would've ended up killing each other.

  • Foo Fighters have nothing on these guys.

  • One of my all time fave bands. I bought ''Warehouse:Songs and Stories'' as soon as it came out in 1987. Already had their other albums, all on vinyl. I was 25. Had the lp sticker on a wall for several years. Great band and great times. Still play their lps over and over. Criminal that they didn't make it really big, same with The Replacements. Thanks for the posting.

  • hey i checked this out and suddenly feel alive again. Thanks

  • @emile235 Best description of Husker Du I've ever read. Amen.

  • Before Seattle "grunge" there was Midwest punk/pop. These guys are some of my musical heroes.

  • I get you ...husker du and the replacements.bless your heart and r.i.p. Bob stinson

  • When im always stuck or bored or sad on the computer,I always come back to this song, makes me uber happy.I must of viewed 1000 times.lol.

  • I graduated from hardcore punk to Husker Du and IRS era REM gradually in the mid 1980s until everything else sounded like greasy kid stuff.

But I haven't listened to this in almost twenty years and it still sounds relevant and fresh - the video is timeless, yet ten years ahead of it's own time.

And I only just found out what the bands name means!

    Thank God for the InterNets...

  • I have been a fan of Husker Du since the 80's, & just like they sang when this song was first released, the world "STILL" doesn't make any sense at all.

  • check out songs from metal circus

  • This is an early mix of Dinosaur Jr and Nirvana.

  • Nirvana owes these guys a case of superstardom.

  • Fantastic band - saw them twice in the '80s. They never got their due as grunge avatars. Maybe Bob Mould's new autobiography will remind people.

  • oh shit !!! where I've been ...I'm a serious music lover..I know them for as long time but I just getting into Husker Du.............

  • Awesome track. Legendary.

  • An SST album on VH1...wow, never thought this could ever happen.

  • These guys need to be inducted into the Hall of Fame...if not for their music then for the bassist's epic moustache.

  • @smirch just induct the mustache

  • @smirch I've been trying to do that mustache for 20 years!

  • these guys were like 10-15 years ahead of everyone else. i remember them in the 80's doin' this college radio sound long before rem made it popular.

  • 20 mennesker hüsker ïkke ...

  • I can't translate the bands name.. I think it means Remember You.... I can't find a good translation.

  • @thatguyyoudontfeel It was a board game. Do you remember?

  • @thatguyyoudontfeel In Danish, "Husker du?" means "Do you remember?", but those are German ü:s.

  • Not my favorite Husker Du but I'm damn sure gonna read the bio now that I know there is one. That has to be special.

  • @jenica2072 yeah its really indepth about the whole scene,it goooeeess deep.I think bobs got one out 2.yell out if ya find em!!!WHAT WOULD HUSKER DU?

  • WTF is this on VH1? Get your kids up to speed!

  • Husker Du still rock today as they did in the beginning. Shout out to tony peart for his guitar tab versions of Flip your wig and warehouse. Gman

  • Husker Du earned world domination. Instead we got Foo Fighters... after Nirvana failing.

  • check that stash

  • Sonic youth, Pixies, Dinosaur jr and Husker Du! Best of alternative music!

  • @CZgrungeCZ but it's too bad they didn't make hundreds of millions of dollars like Nirvana or Pearl Jam

  • @stevewgraham Yes, in some things this is bad...but I think this is way, they choose...and i adore them for it ....and their music of course. :D (And iam sorry for my english. Iam czech.)

  • hey! does anyone know who the older lady dancing with the drink in her hand towards the end of the video?? I love watching her. This video and song is bad-ass. so much better and realistic than the crap on MTV today. Husker forever baby!!

  • @richardwilsonavena - I believe that is Grant Hart's Mom.

  • I met Rollie Fingers once....at the time, I wondered why Greg Norton was talking about his baseball career. Uncanny resemblance....

  • Thumbs up for that moustache

  • Gotta love the moments at 3:41-3:44 and 3:50-3:54.

  • 19 people don't like this.... It makes no sense at all....

  • @SquallMonteZ 19 people clicked the wrong thumb by mistake, and have been annoyed about it ever since.

  • I fucking love this song.

i played this song 61000 of 462336 times

    and i cant stop.....

  • I never get sick of this song

  • Saw Husker Du a # of times & in 1983 with Mission of Burma @ Mavericks. 2 power trios. Fantastic. Bob & Grant were gay-irrelevant. Anyway it's all timing. had Husker Du come 10 or fewer yrs later maybe they'd have been a household name. They (& Burma) had direct influence on bands (i.e. Foo - obviously). I recall a teacher announcing to class that I 'dated myself'. Meaning-I had a sense of music history, Continuity & perspective. Tis heartening to see that @ least some at the same age do now too.

  • i first heard this band in early 84,i always will say that husker du candy apple grey besides pixies doolittle are the two best albums of all time, eiffel tower high and crystal.....the best/////reply?

  • @pattycat100567 They are in my top ten.

  • Half a million views? Awesome. This needs to get 1m for sure. Hopefully Bob's appearance on the (awesome) new Foos record will help that.

  • 1:01 shootin videos sucks!

  • Heard Bob on the new Foo Fighters album, and I had to check me out some husker Du, especially since I live in MN. I love it!

  • @JHall1294 That's exactly why I'm here too:)

  • @candlelightatnight I like it. But Dave doesn't usually steer me wrong :)

  • the only thing that i don't like about the band is the weird mustache

  • "You concern yourself with avarice - it's evident to me "

  • Bravo!

  • Listening to Hüsker Dü is like being caught up in a melodic maelstrom. Drown me.

  • It's Hüsker Dü, not Husker Du!

  • Love the "Mary Tyler Moore" part....they're so HIGH!!

  • @littleboeep Yep, since there having a good time, they MUST be high! Or maybe Husker Du was all about having fun and making there music about it?

  • If you love this check out "hoodoo gurus-bittersweet and urge overkill!'

  • Best song ever...to bad video for me comes in all FUCKED UP!!!

  • @littleboeep Right click the video, click settings. Under the display (far left tab), unselect enable hardware acceleration. Bugged me for the longest time

  • @suiseisekiryu - don't forget Metal Circus, their best release even if it's just an EP.

  • proletariat, husker,mission of burma,minutemen

  • These guys had way too much going on musically to be stuck in the hardcore ghetto for very long.

  • Fuckin Minneapolis

  • You know what, hüsker dü is awesome.

  • @viktorhat They actually used to be a hardcore punk band. But they changed their style. I love the hardcore albums they put out too! Check em out if you haven't!

  • DU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This version sounds different than on album - I love it

  • Ugly, unsexy people's answer to the Stones. -

  • @MarcusCMarcellus aren't the stones ugly, unsexy peoples' response to the beatles?

  • VH1 used to play music =0

  • i was there, man. mpls 1985.

  • pretty cool. first time ive listened to em.

  • @BillCosbysHair Holy smokes I didn't know Bill Cosby's hair can read and likes Husker Du..........

  • Comment removed

  • @BillCosbysHair Just bought the bio myself...I'm going to start it soon, but I have to finish "Our Band Could Be Your Life" first...

  • Minneapolis in the early 80s. First Avenue; City Pages; Jeune Lune; Shinders; the Gutherie built by Ralph Rapson.

In other words, the last time the place had a culture that couldn't be expressed with SUVs, Mall of America, corporate news and the moral odor of thousands and thousands of imported Republicans.

Now, it just makes no sense at all.

  • I sincerely hope that I don't come back for my Husker Du fix and find this video unavailable. Crushed I'd be.

  • 18 people make no sense at all.

  • great mary tyler moore cover section.

  • important band should be required listening for all diy 's

  • remember seeing them in the early 80s when they came up to wpg to play an amazing show at the ablert, ty for posting

  • btw we all love Greg 3:42

  • Clássico.

  • husker du is hilarious to look at - the singer is the least doable, the drummer is the least thin, and the one straight guy in the band is the thin guy with the handlebar moustache! XD counter intuitive on all fronts!

Grant hart looks absolutely thin and fab in this...i always tell people i look like him (which i do) and this is actually making that sound flattering.

  • @LiimLsan Seems like you're too obsessed with appearances. Husker Du obviously weren't haha.

  • husker du is hilarious to look at - the singer is the least doable, the drummer is the least thin, and the one straight guy in the band is the thin guy with the handlebar moustache! XD counter intuitive on all fronts!

  • i want to drive thousand miles just to singalong this diamond song.

  • Damn! Where's the shot of them tossing their hats in the air?

  • I love that the video and song, from about 2:30 starts to become a parody of the Mary Tyler Moore opening credits and song --complete with Daytons, the escalator in IDS, the restaurant balcony at Basil's in IDS, etc.

  • This video is the shits. Husker Du was at the peak of their powers here, but this looks like it was filmed for $8.

Shots of Mnneapolis and close ups of Bob.

    Utter crap.

  • @weaselsuit that's including the $5 it cost to borrow a camcorder.

  • @weaselsuit Makes no sense at all...

  • band bigger than life!!

  • one of the best bands of their time. zen arcade is a masterpiece

  • @faceinembryo not just zen arcade, you are missing new day rising, warehouse and flip yr wig!

  • This band heavily influenced Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.

  • 16 people are homophobic Kid Rock fans.

  • @starkweather444 One person needs to stop worrying about what other people think and just enjoy the Dü

  • Awesome. Sounds like early REM with the guitars turned up! :)

  • @roadlizard666

    Only REM Suck!

  • @BaneOfTheWhiteWolf fuck you

  • @viktorhat Hüsker Dü never had any singles chart, and the Cure have only cracked the Top 40 once or twice.

  • Bob Mould rulz!!!!!!

  • Holy Shit! This is what make me happy

  • How do you pronounce Hüsker Dü? Because I keep thinking of it in Danish, but I doubt that's the correct pronunciation since they're from the US.

  • @Tinewashere I've always heard it as "Hoosker Doo"
