Although this if one of my favorite PS1 games, i never could beat Necron. Fucking Grand Cross and then Neutron Ring in one turn, i was so helpless lol. Probably cause I was an idiot playing it and didn't learn all the spells
Necron is just the physical manifestation of death, nothing more nothing less. I think we're so used to fighting psychopaths, who want to take over the world (or destroy it), Necron seems to make no sense.
Throughout the game, the characters deal with death and the meaning of their existence, and the fight with Necron IMO is more about proving their belief that life has merit (even when it sucks most of the time) rather than just saving the world from the bad guy.
i think YOU need to re-check yours unless you got it after they went square-enix and remade the cases. my case is still squaresoft since i got the game back in late 2000.
What's so cool and scary at the same time about Necron is really the fact that no one knows nothing of him, no one knows what he is exactly (many speculates that he is the Death itself), and were does he came from is also a mystery, it's the mystery and the unknown that makes him so unique.
He arrives unexpectedly and its character is never fully explained.
To make things even worse, he is the only FF villain that is really immortal (Death will exists forever as long as life exists).
@Khaenus Kuja's anger and misery awakened him. And from what he saw, humans seem to like bringing death and destruction upon themselves. So, he, being the sweetie that he is, decided to finish the job for us by turning the world into a zero world. Which basically means he'll obliterate time and space forever. He doesn't seem to realize that that will kill him too.
@SquarecowStudios But if Necron CAN do what the Void is meant to do, (the void is what created the Final Fantasy world) then that would mean Necron IS the Void itself as he said he is eternal as long as darkness is still in the world. So THAT deny's any theories about Necron being Death.
@Khaenus Zeromus is kind of immortal as well. Every time he dies he comes back even more powerful due to his malice towards everyone. Zeromus is the malice of Zemus and then another being shows up in The After Years called Zeromus' Malice. He's like Freddy Krueger: he just keeps coming back.

He is very interpretable in so many ways that really fits into how the end of the game should be. Also if you pay attention to Garland, (which can be hard..) he pretty much explains what Necron is.

I like Necron I think he was added because Kuja while the main bad guy isn't complenty evil just misguided and scared to die ( he will die when Zidane surpasses his power ) he still has a chance of redeeming himself see DISSIDIA to make him the last evil boss battle wouldn't therefore make sense,
lol i had steiner zidane and freya zidane is like somehow 5-10 lvls higher than everyone else.... but idk how ok i gave ffreya and steiner mp attack cuz i never really use there skills unless i need to so i just keep attacking and stuff healing when i need too but then he used grand cross a few times in a row and somehow managed to get freya beserked.... sooo then i had auto regen on her and he kept using a blue shine but freya somehow kbeat him.... but welll idk lol
One thing I don't understand is Freya's Dragon Crest. Sure, dreagon head pop up from the shiny crest, but in the end, the crest showed Baphomet/Goat head, not dragon.....
I just beat this game for the first time earlier. I had Zidane, Dagger, Steiner and Freya, all level 53-55 and got him on my firs try. He almost got me after killing Dagger and Freya with Zidane on low health. Thank God for Steiner and his Shock ability. Although it was Zidane who go the ending blow.
hehe best way to skin necrons healing is to cast Reflect on him and you :P So when he heals you get the health XD But attack yerself whit magic to harm necron :P Shielding AND Healing XD
@megamanangel Yeah but the boss AI is smarter than that. If you cant reflect on all of your characters he will cast reflect on himself and then use his own magic on himself. Thus bouncing it off his reflect and through your at x2 power.

Necron is the embodiment of annihilation, a being who believes that the desire of all is to return to nothingness, a belief reinforced by Kuja's desire to destroy the Crystal. So in a way Kuja summoned Necron.
He was called into being when Kuja destroyed the life crystal which was the source of all life.
When the Crystal was destroyed The Necron chose that time to full fill the reason of its existence: To return all life to Zero make it as if nothing had existed.
When kuja was protecting that crystal thing, necron was inside of it and something happend with the crystal and supposably bad things are in the crystal so basically...Necron is Armageddon.
( 永遠の闇 , Necron ) is the game's final boss, despite not being the main villain. A multi-dimensional being, Necron appears after Trance Kuja destroys the crystal, the source of life. It's not that hard really, just use your best attacks, heal status effects and have Jelly, Insomniac and Loudmouth (mages) equiped along with auto-haste. I did it on lv.46 with the same party u had. It's really not that hard

Necron is one of the best developed characters in Final Fantasy history.
His ambitions, traits and personality are so clear that he makes characters like Kuja and Seymous seem shallow in comparison.

I really hate this boss.
I was forced to use that shitty character quina in order to dispell negative stats like heat and other bad stat attacks.
And the grand whatever it was called wich the alignment of the planet shows does a huge amount of damage.

I agree as well, and your point is valid. If the whiners would look closely at the text, they would find out that Necron was SoulCage's true form.

@tarkeke You're right, I replayed it since I made that comment and I still have trouble understanding what the fuck he is or why he has any relevance. I think that was one of the game's big flaws, I just wasn't invested in that final boss battle, I just kept thinking, "What the fuck?"

@Flargoz I never skip the text boxes:P I actually try to get as much out of the story as possible. I've already said how it is. the thing about necron being the core mechanism of the lifa tree and not the material version is a theory and nothing more. that's all I'm saying. for all I know he could as well be an eidolon created to eliminate existence. square didn't put anything straight on the table of whom or where necron really came from, it's all a big speculation from the fanbase

@KittyKatKairi4 I think around the time FFIX and X were being made was when Squaresoft and Enix were merging, so on FFIX in the game says Squaresoft but on the cover was Enix, and vice versa for X...Well for me it was.

It' really frustrates me when people say they didn't like Necron because he was 'random' and 'not part of the storyline.' He is very interpretable in so many ways that really fits into how the end of the game should be. Also if you pay attention to Garland, (which can be hard..) he pretty much explains what Necron is.

@TheNatureOfBetrayal that is just a theory made up, it actually has some loopholes to it. can't put my finger on it right now though.. but it's not factual to be what square soft had in mind. but a very valid theory nonethless

Wow. You get through those battles fast! I'm just about to do this battle... my characters are Zidane, Vivi, Steiner, and Dagger and they're levels 66-73. Watching you has given me confidence that I can do it!

It's not that hard really, just use your best attacks, heal status effects and have Jelly, Insomniac and Loudmouth (mages) equiped along with auto-haste. I did it on lv.46 with the same party u had. It's really not that hard
