  • I was so inclined to buy a DX8 because of its pricepoint and apparent user friendliness. After reading pages upon pages of reviews of people wanting to love this radio and constantly getting brown outs and losing models scared me away. Horizon seems to be handling their customers very well in these cases. And its not everybody but a significant few. I went with the JR 9503. Not sure I'll be better off since Spektrum is now JR or whatever. Hope things get better for you.

  • @MrF1fanatic

I actually got my new DX8 from Horizon today, they said I have had enough problems so they simply gave me a new one.. Hopefully this one will work ok and I'm quite confident it will because the new once seems to be just fine..

  • Be careful around WiFi networks, I am no expert but DSM2 may be more resistant to WiFi as it prescans frequencies. 2.4Ghz WiFi channels are much wider and only 11 fit in the spectrum and most wireless routers actually use TWO channels at the same time... So if you got multiple WiFi networks you are saturating a HUGE part of your band and DSMX (I think it goes for Futaba also, ask an expert) does not avoid noisy frequencies like DSM2

  • @aratidwell

The protocol used was DSM2, DSMX wasn't released when I made this flight, and Spektrum have since this "admitted" that there's a compatibility issue with older DSM2 receivers and that is most likely what caused the glitch you see in the video.

My DX8 have been in for a firmware upgrade and this particular problem should be solved, but now I have some problems I didn't have before the upgrade :)

  • Never had any problems with my DX8. Downloaded fix as they come. register at spektrum and get all updates by mail.. All transmitters has some kind of errors if you should belive all reviews. You hardly never read positive stuff about anything on forums.. But the DX8 is a safe and good buy. And i love all the features it comes with.

  • @ArcticRc

One thing I've learned since I first reported what I experienced is that the Spektrum Fanboys are just as fanatic as the Apple fanboys.. If you say something negative the mob goes to work and you get questioned over and over again, because "there can't be anything wrong with a Spektrum".. The DX8 was "full" of bugs when they released it and there's no arguing about that. My DX8 is updated and I always patch it when a new update is available, but I dont trust it anyway.

  • @Walkera22e But you need to see it from a large view. How manny DX8 are released and how manny has been bothered by errors and glitch. Yoy cant be safe with any modules. But if i should stop flying because i'm affraid of a glitch i have to quit this hobby. My DX6i had tons of errors but still it was proven to be one hell of an transmitter. I never had any problems and i used it on my most expencive Hangar 9 plane. But i guess i'm just lucky then. I belive in beeing positive all the way. Bengt

  • @ArcticRc, Svensk?

I know there are a lot of ppl out there flying the DX8 witout a glitch but that's no help to me, or the others that experience problems. Electronics can and will fail, it's in the nature of these things but when you "know" there's a problem with it, using it anyway is pushing your luck and you might endanger yourself or others.. My DX8 is going back to HH for a checkup and if it comes back with a clean bill of health, no one is happier than me.. Question is, can I trust it?

  • @Walkera22e I didn't meen to be harsh in my comment. I would do the same as you. send it back. I had a walkera 2801 pro that was bad. turns out there was a broken wire in the battery case that made a shortcut now and then.. But i got a new one and this one i still use with no problems. Hope everything goes well with your DX8.. after all it's an lovely transmitter

  • @ArcticRc, Norsk?

I'm sorry but you get a bit "edgy" when constantly beeing questioned, just look at one of the first comments where this guy didn't even belive I flew with a DX8 because he couldn't see it in the vid..

Featurewise the DX8 is just what I want and I haven't given up on it yet, but as I wrote, it's better to be safe than sorry, especially if you might put others in harms way.. The DX7 is reinstated as my primary TX until I get this business with my DX8 sorted out.

    Norge?

  • @Walkera22e Norwegian yes.. hehe hope it all goes well.. i'm gonna fly my trex 550E tomorrow if the weather gets better

  • it only happens with helicopters mainly

  • I just started browsing vids of the DX8 and I'm seeing people reporting all kinds of problems with it. I have a DX7 and I love it. I'm considering replacing it with a DX8 eventually, but not until HH manages to work out all these issues. No way I'm sending up a $1500 heli with a RX that I can't completely trust.

  • @SpeedDemon46

I feel the same way and that's why I only fly my smaller cheaper machines with it at the moment.. However, I will probably return the TX because I don't trust it and worrying that it might fail in mid flight affects my flying in a negative way..

  • @SpeedDemon46 get a aurora 9 they are very good

  • I was just trying to get more details, the spektrum haters are in full force in forums bashing the DX8 with all sorts of claims. Like mention before did you have the timer vibrate setup?? Already been one case with a faulty radio where at the end of the timer the heli would pitch down max throw cause it to slam to the ground, To test simply throttle hold and apply some throttle/pitch and then selecting about 20sec on the timer watch the swash at the end of the timer. TEST with the vibrattion

  • @freemarlochip

I'm aware of the timer/vibrate issue this guy had and I tested my radio several times the same day I read about it on RR, and I tested it again yesterday after the incidents.. My radio doesn't show any sign of pitching or any other irratic behaviour when the alarm/vibration goes off..

I'm a "Spektrum guy" and I hope I will get the same service out of my DX8 as I have with my DX7, but there are some questions that needs to answered before I feel I can fully trust the DX8.

  • Did the TX vibrate/alarm when the heli slammed down? There is a reported case in Europe where the heli went to full negative pitch once the radio vibrated at the end of the timer (timer reached zero).

Also have you put the v1.02 update on your DX8 ?

  • @johnschenck

No, the tx did not warn/vibrate when it happened, and I've read about the pitch/vibration issue this guy had..

  • Plus we cant tell in the video what TX you are using other then you describing it in the video description box.

  • @freemarlochip

As the title says, I'm flying with a Spektrum DX8 and I don't say that the tx IS the problem, hence the question mark in the title.. Why would I write DX8 if flying with another tx????

  • Sorry but I bit hard to tell from so called glitch or simply not landing smoothly. In most of my experience when a radio fails the owner simply does not just walk over to pick up his RC but inteads start bitching about what the heck happen and that he had no control.

  • @freemarlochip

Yeah, I usually give full negative from 5 feet up when landing my heli nose in.. You can't hear it in the video but I used some pretty round language when walking out to get the heli and since I suspected radio glitches I wanted to disconnect the pack as quickly as possible.. As I wrote in my first response to you, I'm not all that convinced it's the DX8 that is the problem but what you see in the vid isn't pilot error, it's a huge glitch of some sort..
