@SrGreeneyed, that "white kid" was Randy Joe Fullerton who played with bands including: Howlin' Wolf, Luther Allison, H. B. Hutto, Watermelon, "Will" Smokey Logg and the Flamethrowers, Paul Herrington & more. That was a pretty good gig for him as he was about 18 at the time! He was a friend of mine back when he was working around Madison Wisconsin with Will Logg. A tremendous bassist and a great guy.
You know what is goddamn funny? The cameraman only shows wolf, the drummer and that little white guitarist with the long hair that doesn't seem to be doing much a whole lot of times , but he just show's the black guitarist playing his ass of over on wolf's right just a couple of seconds in the end. Now that's funny.
@SrGreeneyed Not particulary funny...White kids playing Bass...and the other Cat is Hubert Sumlin who laid down some of the hottest Guitar rips in Blues period. As for The Wolf.....Simply Incomparable.
Right around this time Howlin' Wolf was playing the weekends at Big Dukes Flamingo out on West Roosevelt Road in Chicago......He usually had Sunnyland Slim with him on Keyboards and of course Hubert and occasionally S.P. Leary. He featured this tune at about every gig. One thing in Wolf's and our favor was that he played those Ghetto Jukes right up until he passed.
if you are poor and starving and cant pay shit you have defiantly got the blues i just found this guy today and he makes more sense to me than a million years of mtv.
@6t4eldo Hey baby, where the hell you been lately? We got us a 'real-good-movie' now! It is called 'Cadillac Records' and it shows a lot of 'good-stuff' about the "Wolf" as well as 'Muddy Waters', Little Walter and Etta James, and it also introduces Chuck Berry!! You need to 'get busy' and check-it-out, O.K.?
Howlin' Wolf before he got real sick. He's blowing harp thru the PA and has the single baddest harp ton of anyone I ever heard, bar none. I got to see him in later years when he was real sick and seated on the bandstand and this is much more raw.
@chentelivybond I knew Randy Joe in the seventies and early eighties in Madison Wisconsin. We were best of friends. I can't believe he is gone. I can still hear his voice in my mind. May you rest in peace, my dearest Randy Joe.
@PParranoidd, hwy 49 is the main road leading into the Mississippi Delta from Jackson, MS. The wolf is singing about getting on that very highway and heading south to Jackson to catch a train and get the hell away from that woman.
Weird ?? I believe that numbers only have as much power as you allow them to have, they are only numbers. But maybe he believed in that stuff? he's singing about it... I think ?...

Highway 49?... 4+9=13!!... Occult meaning of 13?... Appears to be related to the snake and sexual unity and can also be described as rebirth.
Pagan cultures worshiped the serpent for protection against evil, can be male or female sexuality, rain and fertility, a mediator between the physical and spiritual world the list goes on and on...
When you went to a concert featuring the Wolf, you never ever forget it, this brings back many memories. What a man, what a showman, rock solid. And Hubert could play some mean licks...

A master bluesman AND a hell of a showman. From the crazy mad eyes to the harmonica antics at 7:30. If you can walk the walk and talk the talk, a little showmanship is fun icing on the cake.
I agree that all humans should get along, but this is ideal. Chester didn't get along with many people. Check the video of him bashing a very old, drunk Son House. Chester did his thing. Muddy did his. All is well.
I tried posting a link but it was never posted, so search on here "howlin wolf full version". Video is about 7 minutes or so. Son and Chester going at it.
Wow. Even when he's just standing around and not singing or playing, he's still able to maintain this crazy stage presence. Thanks for the post GtrWorkShp, I really learned something.
