  • i hope u do not break ur screen LOL

  • Stanley Kubrik's music. lol

  • There are two possible reasons your getting an interaction as far as I can tell:

    1. The LCD screen is amplifying your bodies em field and creating an interaction.

    2. The LCD screen crystals are being pushed and altering the waves that the antenna/monitor is sending out already, creating a sort of feedback.

Try putting it by the microwave if you really want to hear some noises :-p

  • WOW, that would make a great instrument!

  • He's blinding me with Science! :)

  • Someday a guy like this will stumble ond a frequency to communicate to aliens in outerspace.

  • is this maybe being sensitive to your nerve signals? Considering that youre touching a screen, but what if you try some other objects?

  • @GearzVoNKod3

The radio will pick up the emf from the screen by being near it. My hands make a more direct connection because there is more surface area and the body acts as a good antenna.

  • what is causing that effect? LCD screens dont usually have the type of charge a crt screen does... so why is it doing that when you hook it to your ear of all places?

  • @GearzVoNKod3

Hooking the antenna to my ear makes the antenna work better, and my hands complete the circuit as they pick up the switching frequencies of the screen.

  • wat is dit voor een daap?? wat een kut geluiden maakt ie zn stem wat een een kut stem

  • I don't know why, but your voice always sounds like you are stoned as hell...

  • @XXaL68 lol he probably is. :D

i couldn't help but think so, however there's nothing wrong with that. :)

  • Ha.

Rick Wakeman, eat your heart out.

  • If that requires no input power, that's a very good idea for making an intruder alert, or car alarm, etc, etc!

  • could it be that it picking up some static charge from the screen through your hand and routing it and amplifying it to the input mic

  • DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE HEAR, if you were to be able to hook a device up, to respond to that like that but so it does things then yeah wow

  • That makes no sense at all.

  • what i mean is, if he were to make something that responds to him having the complete the sicut he could make something that could controle something else

  • Right on. Sometimes its hard to get thoughts out in words that everyone can understand.

  • Reminds me of the Theremin :)

  • Try to use spirit radio with the plasma lamp, I'm wondering what effect will be.

  • That's a good idea...I'll have to find a plasma light and try it.

  • It'd be SO FUN to be your neighbor!

  • Hehe, thanks...I think I scare most neighbors away!

  • Awesome Rick!

  • Do the "Jaws" theme song:-)

Wild and wonderful stuff Rick:-) Great Job! 5 stars

  • hahhaha this is awesome

  • Uhura would be proud of you

  • Haha, good one!

  • Resonant amplification harmonics

  • Rah, Rah, I'm a cheerleader for the wave!

  • Question: If it possibly works or is somehow related to the radiation output of a display device, would the effects be greatly 'amplified' if you touched a CRT display?

Could be another video idea - if it works :D

  • I believe that is true that the effect would be amplified. Spies had an easier time with electronic gear from several rooms away reading a TV screen than a laptop LCD screen.

  • the crystal radio gets its power from the radio waves and radiant energy in the atmosphere via the aerial and a tuned coil...when you connect to the aerial you are enhancing its properties....which picks up the electrostatic energy frequency from the monitor... but hey you knew all that right?

  • Yep. But knowing theory and actually experiencing it are two different things; that's where science seems to have made a split many years ago.

Einstein theorized science while Tesla experienced it.

  • man I know you are making a touchpad controller for a UFO flight navigation system!

  • Shhh, don't let the earthlings know!

  • wow ive watched several of ur videos and its clear that ur one smart man hahaha

  • hey good stuff any idea what kind of noise cd turbine makes if try that ? homopolar heart was cool

  • The Beta Blocker must be working...you are reading my crazy mind! I have done a video of the sound from the magnetic field of the Tesla CD Turbine, and it's really cool!

The video should be out soon.

  • cool and try that reversing ball also

  • The reversing ball will make a whoosh sound but only before it goes "clunk" as it sticks to the back of the radio!

  • interesting xD

you could make money if you have idea for this

  • Can a high school teacher please explain what is really going on here?

  • the sounds sound like 8 bit sound forom an old video game system a , or it might be the compression from you tube

  • Another awesome new experiment!! I have 9 birds in cages in the other room - they all went ape when they heard the sounds! Must be something in there got their attention. I suspect this is an audio response to the back light power supply in the monitor. I would try a fluorescent tube or even a small spiral fluorescent bulb. I have created similar (though not identical) sounds with an AM radio tuned to open static and then operating a pocket calculator next to the ferrite loop stick antenna.

  • Haha, great comment, thanks!

  • Kewl.

  • WOW! That was cool...

  • Reminds me of the theremin instrument somehow.

  • Yes, it is similar to the theremin, which my step-son plays in the band Wolf Parade.

The Beta Blocker is possibly more advanced than the theremin, which was restricted to amplitude and frequency variations in a linear way.

This BB radio can respond to DC and AC light of all kinds, radio waves, EM pulses, magnetic fields, sound waves, and even levels of grayscale on the computer screen! And the really amazing thing is that it can do ALL of these things at once, if desired!

  • you should try this with patterns of color.

i believe, that somehow is possible to make music out of this.

because of the frequency of each color.

    like the doppler effect.

blue is low frequency, like bass.

  • You Rock

  • Very cool. I think the two of you should do a CD.

    Seriously

  • Mr. Fix It...you put the physics into Meta-physics!

  • I would imagine it has something to do with the crystals in the LCD screen. I don't think it's that you "have" to be a conductor. You happen to have more contact surface than the clip. Attach the clip to something else larger (and conductive) and let that touch the LCD screen. You'll probably get a reaction. Or it's possible friction and/or static electricity is affecting the crystals in the LCD in a way that the crystal radio is picking it up. (Since they're sensitive to temperature)

  • A clipped piece of aluminum foil will make the same sound. Amplitude depends on area touching (or close to) the screen.

Also, the alligator clip of the wire does not have to touch the skin; the insulated wire can be wrapped around a finger and other hand touch the screen and get same result!

  • Linking back to my comment in the previous video, it could be picking up the electrostatic fields of thecomputer screen. The only difference here is that by attaching the clip to your ear, you became part of the antenna.

  • What thin material would totally block electrostatic to find out? Perhaps I will try a tinfoil shield, that should block it...

(5 minutes later)....okay I tried that, and aluminum foil makes no difference!! What's up with that? Very counter-intuitive for me right now...beta mind confused...zit,zit, breakdown warning!, zit, zit, breakdown warning! (hehe)

  • Not got a clue what's going on with that radio, but loving the videos Rick! Question for you... Do you have to be part of "the circuit"? What happens if the crocodile clip directly touches the screen? What if there's more than one person in "the circuit"? Looking forward to the next video already!

  • Yes, I have to be part of the circuit. If the clip touches the screen, there is virtually no effect. The effect is much less if I use only one finger, but does increase when I push down with my finger.

Hehe, more than one person sounds cool! Kinda like that shockingly fun experiment from the 1700's I just read about with 700 monks and some Leyden jars!!

  • thats fucked man... nice affects... but i would not do that to my screen! :)

  • Admittedly, I was a "little" over-enthusiastic with drumming on my screen. But it's seen worse over it's ancient 4-year life! hehe

  • yeah seems to last better then my laptops screen did... that died on me and i was not even touching it :P
