  • what is that program

  • nice tut!

  • i am new to maya can u make basic human making tutorial before i use blender but blender cant paste thing to udk so i am using maya now please make tutorial

  • lol that was frekin AMAZING! I've never seen such good modeling before in my life.

  • question..........can CINEMA 4D be used for game making because his program can be....it was used into making many COD games

  • Thanks man this really helps me a lot. My dream is to become a student of iGAD in breda, and I will work hard for it, this really helps me out!

  • Great video, very easy to follow and the explanations were clear. I just have a curiosity: what keeps you going and modelling all the time?

  • @MehthodMan thanks! What keeps me going? well, I love modeling and it pays the bills. It's fun and a good way to express my creativity.

  • hmm, i bet you sleep with maya every night

  • @rudal90 yup. with zbrush too. at the same time. it's hot.

  • @squirc ahhh, you're maniac., i recomend' name your daughter "Poly" and your son "nurbs"

  • you sure know your craft *o*

  • hey i'm just starting in this and can i do this in blender??

  • When i put the image planes they don't match eachother, i've seen a previous video on how it was done but i can't find it back, anyone has an idea about what i'm talking? It was done using Photoshop. Thanks !

  • Cool, I was taught Maya and others, but Maya and Zbrush is my main tools

  • djdjf

  • presentation is wonderful and gr8 works too

  • Dude this is very helpful. You helped me a lot, thanks! Very simple and clear instructions!

  • brilliant

  • I got to HAND it to you... This tutorial sure is HANDY! Sorry. My puns are getting out of HAND.

  • @WebVManReturns you totally right, HANDS off the keyboard now! You gotta first learn to HANDle your puns first before someone can really HAND you the torch.

  • is it possable to do this kinda thing in c4d becuase i dont like maya nor auto desk :/

  • @crimsonpatty Yes, you should be able to do basically the same thing in any polygon modeling program

  • @squirc wow that was fast from such a famous person, thank you very much im a partal 3d artist in college im not to good but im working on my 3d work becuase i love it so much! check out my 3d render building if you like pointers from you whould be amazing!

  • @crimsonpatty Hi! great job!

    Did you use CATIA program??

  • @crimsonpatty Is Maya to difficult?

  • @drescorpio1114 no iv just been taught to use c4d

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • 8 minutes in you began combining the vertices at the bottom of the pinky to the top of the palm, what tool did you use to do this? This is my first modeling tut, and I'm really liking it. Great Job!

  • Nice tutorial

  • what this program

  • @demonbryanz123 Maya I think

  • @demonbryanz123 Read the damm description FFS -.-

  • For beginners: WHAT HE SAYS IS TRUE. Do NOT think there is a shortcut to model faster, there is NOT. Sure there are other ways than his, but he is right about modeling being tedious sometimes, but stick with it and it will pay off!

  • Is there any animation that is 3D but its like pivot?

  • any chance there's a way to get the reference images?

  • wow nice job!

  • what program is this?( i am trying to make trains for Trainz12 (An F40phl-2 to be exact). It's a tri-rail engine that runs in miami

  • Whats the differnce between Maya and 3ds max?

I currently use 3ds max. But i cant really tell the difference between the two, like the pro's/cons. IF some1 could tell me what they are that would be great!

  • @Clambercty They are both very versatile softwares, which allow you to get the same results, awesome results, but usually i think Max is better in Dynamics, render setups, plus there are hundred more plugins for max than maya. hope that helped.

  • @MonkeyDSeehr Yes I agree with you, from what I've seen, I currently use 3ds Max I was just wondering if the other program would be better but I love 3ds max so imma stick with it. If 3ds Max has hundreds of plugins why do Pixar and all them use Maya? from what i've heard thats what they use I could be wrong

  • @Clambercty Well, i actually use Autodesk Maya, but just because it is the software which i started with like.. 7 years ago so.. But i can tell i've heard better things from Max. I don't really know if Pixar uses Maya or whatever, but us i told before, i know that you can get awesome and very realistic results with both of them.

  • Wild thing.

    I think I love you.

  • Wow, this is skill!

  • hey man , i am just starting on the whole modeling and animation thing , i am still in high school and your videos amaze me thanks

  • wow.......... its same as VHE 3.4 so it won't be too hard for game mappers......like me

  • did you try this with your face

  • @squirc

Why not simply attach basic fingers to your hand base, *then* edit with loop cuts? I noticed you shaped the base, then shaped the bottom of your fingers to match that base? Why not simply attach them, merge vertices, *then* edit? I know you are trying to avoid an "assembly line" look and feel, but I am simply wondering how much more smoothly attaching bases before adding loop cuts would run.

    Again, just asking.

  • That's too HQ.. Nice JOB!! :)

  • never mind! i found it!

  • hey squirc could you give me a link to the photos you used to model this hand? i would appreciate it very much.

  • its in the description

  • @covertgamer10 yeah i said later that i found it but thanks anyway.

  • is..that the pace that you move at? or is it on fast forward lol cuz if its your normal pace holy shit. But thats wicked man, if i didnt already have my college course i woulda just signed up in your class

  • where can i donwload maya??

  • I've got Maya 2012, What is the technique of using Y,X,Z Axis pictures to copy of for your models. I would like to get into learning this,

  • and you can put bones in that right?

  • wow this tutorial got a lot of views... I agree with the fact that human organic parts are very difficult to build... especially ears nose, fingers are driving me crazy... By the way, if anyone wants to make $ with your 3d models check out cgworld(dot)com. You get an instant payment from your buyers.

  • Nice Vid!

If you search great free textures google for: textureblog

  • the grid is really disrupting the view.. but great turorial still! thanks

  • You made it sounded easy. @.@

  • is it maya

  • dude what software is that

  • Are there free database with lots of models including that pretty nice hand? My point is, instead of having 1000 people that are doing this 3D shape, why can't we have a database that include such 3D work?

  • @WilsonSteinberg You should go take a look at the site 3d.sk ! Oh and just to save you some words and time for the next time someone is looking for something on the internet... we got google for us !

Google search : reference pictures for artists !

    Have a good day

  • @WilsonSteinberg thefree3dmodels, google it

  • great tutorial!!!!!

  • Thank you for the tutorial! Great Stuff.

  • great tutorial! I'll follow it.

  • If you want to make your virtual 3D models into physical models, check out 2BOT. It's just one solution, but can be very useful in many applications.

  • In fact there is an automatic way of 3D modeling... If you have several photos of an object from different positions it is possible to use PhotoScan (agisoft.ru/products/photoscan/). It would be hard to reconstruct a hand, but for static objects it works well.

  • @rodikov Those models derived from photos as well as 3d scans look great, but they don't have any edgeflow or topology for animation. It could be a good idea to use them as retopology source meshes or as guides for polymodeling.

  • @squirc I agree, retopology is good with 3d scans from pictures/lasers, as a guide for a basemesh, however most scans from pictures using software like Project photofly are not up to the resolution needed for great detail with displacement, or normal mapping. I use them in zbrush as alpha textures in scenes, and they are perfect for it, for example, Manhole covers, and small details. I have yet to get a good scan out of photofly, since they cap texture, and mesh resolution to conserve space.

  • too fast :(

  • Why does it take 5 hours to download DX

  • what program did you use and is it free cuz im a 14 year old hoping to be a graphic desighner so i want to train beor i go to collage

  • @outdatedinvalidname get Blender. its really good for beginners. and there are tons of tutorials on youtube. thats what i started off using.

  • @outdatedinvalidname Autodesk Maya

  • This video made so much sense when I was watching it and I can't help but feel that blender can't do this

  • This is the tutorial I'm looking for and those dumb-ass said this isn't one way to model a figure guess I was a right they were wrong what noobs. Beside this is just going basic...

  • nice method, its pretty smart.

  • Program name please :)

  • Whats tHe name of tHe program

  • would it work to model and rig something in maya and then import and animate it in 3ds max?

  • @otumococo you could transfer the model to Max no problem. but the rig has to be made in the same program that you animate it in.

  • @otumococo Your commentary suggest that you do not feel as comfortable with modeling and rigging in 3ds Max as you are in Maya. As said by Squirc, the riggings are not compatible (to my knowledge), but many tools and plugins have made 3ds Max a lot more user friendly. Might I suggest you take the time to look into the possibility of adapting 3ds Max to your needs. Or simply learn to animate in Maya, I'm more of a 3ds Max guy, but I find the animation and rigging very interesting, worth the try

  • Great!

Can you then convert this SubD shape into NURBS? If yes, can I get the model in IGES format?

  • first 3 minutes that hand was like a boner 8)

  • @squirc Yep, sorry pretty much noticed that right after clicking "post", doh!! Thanks!

  • Great runthrough. :) I know I can just get pics of my own hand... but probably won't match them up well from each view: so I'm wondering if there's anywhere you can upload the references you used? :D Thanks!

  • @BlightedArt read the vid description :)

  • What is the coordinates of each image plane by the way?

  • How do you make your camera about without actually rotating it?

  • This is Yantram BPO Service Pvt.Ltd providing all types of 3D Modeling animation services like Animations studio,3d modeling animation,3D Panoramic view,3D Photomontage,Architectural Animation.3D Modeling animation software refers to programs used to make computer generated.

3d walkthrough, 3d Modeling, 3D Rendering, 3d Architectural presentation, 3D Product Design, Architectural 3d Visualization, architectural 3d rendering, 3D Floor Plan, architectural rendering.

  • how did you position and scale the references so perfectly?

  • wow

  • where does the edge in the middle of the index finger go to?

  • @sabawernessfull Good catch. yeah. you can just tie it off with a triangle or leave in in that space between the thumb and index finger. or you could run it down the thumb. not the best solution really.... since making this vid I've found a better way that avoids making that edge at all. it's a way that i show in my lynda course on character modeling.

  • When u use bitmap images on planes so u can work on accurate sculpting, how do u make the images appear? by default it just turns grey when i add the material

  • I'm working in blender, but you have the best hand tut on youtube. Not too hard to translate to blender. Thanks

  • great tutorial thankyou!

  • A VERY STUPID QUESTION... HOW U ROTATE THE CAMERA?

  • @loko24561 alt+left drag to orbit

    alt+middle drag to pan

  • @demoniccurses9 TY...

  • woaah, I love you!:p

  • Thanks man, this is a great tutorial vid =)

  • This is really interesting but would you be able to make some tutorials that cater more to a beginner? For example, how exactly are you adding faces and what are some keyboard shortcuts you recommend to quickly switch around like you do? Great video though. Thank you.

  • this tutorial is too fast for beginners to follow

  • You are the Man!!!

very tks for share your techiniques!!!

  • Did you use backface culling at 2:02? It seems that when you delete the faces, there are still visible edges and vertex.

  • how come when i smoth my nad i still got the same amount of vertex's and edges but when u do u get like 2x more?

  • @cenetor69 Check out your smooth settings. it's possible that you've got it set to zero iterations. you want it set to 1. hope this helps!

  • @squirc aha i got it! lol i keep looking in edit found it mesh, smooth thanks for the help though :)

  • @cenetor69 If you hit 3 to smooth in will only be a preview, you need to use the smooth tool.

  • one of the best way to model a hand. but it is somewhat difficult in 3Ds max. any way a good way to model to hand

  • your voice sounds a lil like Mathew from the tv show Cristine...:D

  • did you speed up the video!? i want to learn maya for myself (but if i have do be that fast to be a good modeler or a good 3d artist) well... then ill stick to photoshop! ;D

    -greetz from germany-

  • @Z3R00NE Hi! thanks for the note. It is double speed. You can get fast over time with practice!

  • this is just best way to model a hand....great work...

  • hey, i have maya 2011 and when i select the left edge and move it in the middle, the right edge goes to the middle to, how do i not make it go in the middle?

  • @lakerdynasty22 Sounds like you've got Reflection turned on. Go to the tool settings to turn it off.

  • @squirc Oh man thanks a lot for your help!!, i've been using Maya for about a month now and i want to be really really good at it, do you have any websites or book recomendations for sharpining my skills??

  • @lakerdynasty22 Check out my character modeling course on Lynda.com, that shows you everything from start to finish!

  • at first i was like, lol doesnt look like a hand, at the end i was like wtf, its a hand.

  • anyone know if there is a hotkey for extrude? cant find one =(

  • @bluetounge If you are using Maya you do like this: Right click on the mesh and drag the mouse downwards. This will toggle the face mode. Select the face(s). Then Shift+right click and drag the mouse downwards again. The face is now extruded.

At first you can may think that it goes slow. But after you get use to the marking menus, it is by far the fastest way to navigate in Maya.

  • Where/how do I download this?

  • Impressive - nice work :)

  • Great tutorial. I use Blender, but this is a big help for a beginner like me. THANKS!

  • yeah but the thumb looks double jointed

  • nice i done it after i watch this it wasent as good as your but it was pretty good then i used meta for an arm with a small cude to make the hand look connected excuse the spelling im only 14

  • Which programme is this?

  • i have cinema 4d ver. 12 i was wondering how to import a picture into the main project screen and split it into the 4 different screens. help anyone!

  • got any tuts for blender 2.56

  • wow, you make this look so simple. : ) Now to try it out for myself!

  • @narusasu So hows it going?

    Did you make it?

  • not that fast

  • Hey man i watched your vide and i think that your program is good what is it as program ?

  • Nice tutorial, I don' t even have the program but enjoy different modeling techniques.

  • I love this, how do you design these modeling techniques?

  • Great!!

  • Can the fingers move individually as in animation?

  • my hand hurts

  • i find retopology methods much more efficient... splitting the creative process from the tedious... +loop count is minimal

  • @vetodnb I agree. when I made this, retopo wasn't really an option. Now I sculpt first and ask questions later :)

  • @squirc oyee que tipo de plugin usas para este modelado???

  • Awesome! I made a hand using blender with the help of this tutorial! Thanks dude!

  • Shit what tool you use to operate the tool edge, vertex, etc? Did you put in 'show manipulator tool'? these tools do not work for me with the mouse! Please give me a solution

  • Ah, I'm about a minute into the tutorial and I can't get it right. the images don't seem to match up for me at all. When I get something to match up in the side, I look at the front and it looks completely wrong.

  • What modeling program you use on this video? please tell

  • @AfterEffectsLova Nice that it was used in films. How ever the simple factor and the power factor is what makse blender for me so great and better then maya (for me). I wont be to quick to judge if maya is powerfull, but I have seen blender at is max potencial, and shit, animations and pictures look super real. Real flow and programs like that can just bow to blenders awsomenes. Not that they are bad programs its just that they cost to much.

  • I modeled a finger for the 15 people who disliked...

  • I never liked maya, I think blender is alot simpler and the powerfull as maya.

  • Brilliant! Thanks man.

  • hey, where can I get those images? :D

  • How much does maya cost? And if possible, where can I find a torrent or free download? Me and my friend are working on a video game but we have a rather low budget!

  • @DomnDommer Hi I sent you an Email with useful information. Good luck! :)

  • @DomnDommer Maya costs more than you have. I suggest Houdini if you want to be legit. Maya torrents are everywhere, ask google

  • @DomnDommer It's around 3500 dollars for a commercial license. If you want a free program, try blender.

  • @jopan1026 lol torrent maya xD

  • @Darkseeker109 or with a student email you can get a free 3 year student license.

  • This looks sped up liek crazy.

  • I wouldn't say that it is essential to touch every vert, or to focus on working with verts. That's the way that I work, but I think you can work a lot more efficiently if you get comfortable with edges and faces as well. After all, when you move an edge you get two moves for the time cost of one, and with faces you get 3 or more.

  • this is a great tutorial, my only critique is the you are waaay tooo quick with the space bar/views while you are tweaking the edges and faces. otherwise very clear and very interesting technique you got there! BTW for my references i just creat a camera with an image plane

  • this is a great tutorial, my only critique is the you are waaay tooo quick with the space bar/views while you are tweaking the edges and faces. otherwise very clear and very interesting technique you got there!

  • are those images for download?? i wouldnt mind using them haha its alot easyer with the same image!!

  • Wow you make it look really easy!

  • very cool tip! I'll try this in blender and see the results. Thx!

  • what should a begginer do to practice using blender?

  • im 12 and i cant do that

  • Great work! can you tell me how long it took you to learn how to use the program? or better yet, how long would it take an absolute beginner to use the software half as good as you do? Thanks, keep up the good work!

  • hi, like the vid, a few questions. how do you decide how to model the hand, how do you decide which topology is best, and what is a 6-point star in maya?

  • dude !!! that was epic!! only quibble i have was you were like on nitrous oxide or summit!! i found it hard to keep up!! ..

but still damn good :) 5 stars from me *****

  • what program you use?

  • I gave up on maya when my computer hard drive got deleted and the ple version was not available for download.
