When i put the image planes they don't match eachother, i've seen a previous video on how it was done but i can't find it back, anyone has an idea about what i'm talking? It was done using Photoshop. Thanks !
@WebVManReturns you totally right, HANDS off the keyboard now! You gotta first learn to HANDle your puns first before someone can really HAND you the torch.
@squirc wow that was fast from such a famous person, thank you very much im a partal 3d artist in college im not to good but im working on my 3d work becuase i love it so much! check out my 3d render building if you like pointers from you whould be amazing!
8 minutes in you began combining the vertices at the bottom of the pinky to the top of the palm, what tool did you use to do this? This is my first modeling tut, and I'm really liking it. Great Job!
For beginners: WHAT HE SAYS IS TRUE. Do NOT think there is a shortcut to model faster, there is NOT. Sure there are other ways than his, but he is right about modeling being tedious sometimes, but stick with it and it will pay off!
I currently use 3ds max. But i cant really tell the difference between the two, like the pro's/cons. IF some1 could tell me what they are that would be great!
@Clambercty They are both very versatile softwares, which allow you to get the same results, awesome results, but usually i think Max is better in Dynamics, render setups, plus there are hundred more plugins for max than maya. hope that helped.
@MonkeyDSeehr Yes I agree with you, from what I've seen, I currently use 3ds Max I was just wondering if the other program would be better but I love 3ds max so imma stick with it. If 3ds Max has hundreds of plugins why do Pixar and all them use Maya? from what i've heard thats what they use I could be wrong
@Clambercty Well, i actually use Autodesk Maya, but just because it is the software which i started with like.. 7 years ago so.. But i can tell i've heard better things from Max. I don't really know if Pixar uses Maya or whatever, but us i told before, i know that you can get awesome and very realistic results with both of them.
Why not simply attach basic fingers to your hand base, *then* edit with loop cuts? I noticed you shaped the base, then shaped the bottom of your fingers to match that base? Why not simply attach them, merge vertices, *then* edit? I know you are trying to avoid an "assembly line" look and feel, but I am simply wondering how much more smoothly attaching bases before adding loop cuts would run.
is..that the pace that you move at? or is it on fast forward lol cuz if its your normal pace holy shit. But thats wicked man, if i didnt already have my college course i woulda just signed up in your class

Are there free database with lots of models including that pretty nice hand? My point is, instead of having 1000 people that are doing this 3D shape, why can't we have a database that include such 3D work?
@WilsonSteinberg You should go take a look at the site 3d.sk ! Oh and just to save you some words and time for the next time someone is looking for something on the internet... we got google for us !

@otumococo Your commentary suggest that you do not feel as comfortable with modeling and rigging in 3ds Max as you are in Maya. As said by Squirc, the riggings are not compatible (to my knowledge), but many tools and plugins have made 3ds Max a lot more user friendly. Might I suggest you take the time to look into the possibility of adapting 3ds Max to your needs. Or simply learn to animate in Maya, I'm more of a 3ds Max guy, but I find the animation and rigging very interesting, worth the try

@sabawernessfull Good catch. yeah. you can just tie it off with a triangle or leave in in that space between the thumb and index finger. or you could run it down the thumb. not the best solution really.... since making this vid I've found a better way that avoids making that edge at all. it's a way that i show in my lynda course on character modeling.

@squirc Oh man thanks a lot for your help!!, i've been using Maya for about a month now and i want to be really really good at it, do you have any websites or book recomendations for sharpining my skills??
@bluetounge If you are using Maya you do like this: Right click on the mesh and drag the mouse downwards. This will toggle the face mode. Select the face(s). Then Shift+right click and drag the mouse downwards again. The face is now extruded.
At first you can may think that it goes slow. But after you get use to the marking menus, it is by far the fastest way to navigate in Maya.
nice i done it after i watch this it wasent as good as your but it was pretty good then i used meta for an arm with a small cude to make the hand look connected excuse the spelling im only 14
Shit what tool you use to operate the tool edge, vertex, etc? Did you put in 'show manipulator tool'? these tools do not work for me with the mouse! Please give me a solution
Ah, I'm about a minute into the tutorial and I can't get it right. the images don't seem to match up for me at all. When I get something to match up in the side, I look at the front and it looks completely wrong.
@AfterEffectsLova Nice that it was used in films. How ever the simple factor and the power factor is what makse blender for me so great and better then maya (for me). I wont be to quick to judge if maya is powerfull, but I have seen blender at is max potencial, and shit, animations and pictures look super real. Real flow and programs like that can just bow to blenders awsomenes. Not that they are bad programs its just that they cost to much.
How much does maya cost? And if possible, where can I find a torrent or free download? Me and my friend are working on a video game but we have a rather low budget!
I wouldn't say that it is essential to touch every vert, or to focus on working with verts. That's the way that I work, but I think you can work a lot more efficiently if you get comfortable with edges and faces as well. After all, when you move an edge you get two moves for the time cost of one, and with faces you get 3 or more.
this is a great tutorial, my only critique is the you are waaay tooo quick with the space bar/views while you are tweaking the edges and faces. otherwise very clear and very interesting technique you got there! BTW for my references i just creat a camera with an image plane

Can the fingers move individually as in animation?

i find retopology methods much more efficient... splitting the creative process from the tedious... +loop count is minimal
vetodnb 11 months ago
@vetodnb I agree. when I made this, retopo wasn't really an option. Now I sculpt first and ask questions later :)

Awesome! I made a hand using blender with the help of this tutorial! Thanks dude!
sumdude97 11 months ago
Shit what tool you use to operate the tool edge, vertex, etc? Did you put in 'show manipulator tool'? these tools do not work for me with the mouse! Please give me a solution
njra123 11 months ago
Ah, I'm about a minute into the tutorial and I can't get it right. the images don't seem to match up for me at all. When I get something to match up in the side, I look at the front and it looks completely wrong.

What modeling program you use on this video? please tell
member186 11 months ago
@AfterEffectsLova Nice that it was used in films. How ever the simple factor and the power factor is what makse blender for me so great and better then maya (for me). I wont be to quick to judge if maya is powerfull, but I have seen blender at is max potencial, and shit, animations and pictures look super real. Real flow and programs like that can just bow to blenders awsomenes. Not that they are bad programs its just that they cost to much.

hey, where can I get those images? :D

How much does maya cost? And if possible, where can I find a torrent or free download? Me and my friend are working on a video game but we have a rather low budget!

@DomnDommer Hi I sent you an Email with useful information. Good luck! :)

@DomnDommer Maya costs more than you have. I suggest Houdini if you want to be legit. Maya torrents are everywhere, ask google
matthewrocks711 11 months ago
@DomnDommer It's around 3500 dollars for a commercial license. If you want a free program, try blender.
jopan1026 10 months ago

I wouldn't say that it is essential to touch every vert, or to focus on working with verts. That's the way that I work, but I think you can work a lot more efficiently if you get comfortable with edges and faces as well. After all, when you move an edge you get two moves for the time cost of one, and with faces you get 3 or more.

this is a great tutorial, my only critique is the you are waaay tooo quick with the space bar/views while you are tweaking the edges and faces. otherwise very clear and very interesting technique you got there! BTW for my references i just creat a camera with an image plane

Great work! can you tell me how long it took you to learn how to use the program? or better yet, how long would it take an absolute beginner to use the software half as good as you do? Thanks, keep up the good work!
