It was a lollapalooza, boy! Weds eve & Thurs eve, between 6-8pm-- both were hell on wheels! They said it was gusting to 75 at that time, but someone who wasn't here has to picture: this on TOP of the sustained winds (35-45) for the better part of 3 days. Those winds blew through like a train. During Isabel (2003), never was I so concerned as during those 6p-8p spans on Weds & Thurs.
We lost our beloved "mama" white pine, whose roots got upturned. Could've been much worse, I know.
my pines hung in okay but I lost a massive branch off of one of them. I would have to say the winds were stronger than during Isabelle. Water came up but none in.
Wow, you guys got slammed. Winds are beginning to gust pretty good up here. 35-45 mph winds are forecasted. I might make a run to the shore tomorrow to check out what's happening.
The storm is pretty much long gone although we still have light rain to drizzle. I was out with the chain saw cutting up limbs but wrapped that up and came in to watch Nationwide. Any action at the shore up there?
Unfortunately, I had to make a run to the electronics store after a computer issue today. The news reported some minor beach erosion at this mornings high tide. Lots of street flooding and some basements flooded here inland, though.
My neighbours are on a different electricity feeder, and they happen to be on one that a local hospital is also on: so they often keep their power when mine is off!
no kidding. Mine is running right now otherwise I would be sitting with a candle like at the end of the video, just like in the 1800's. With my faithful generator, I can watch NASCAR while on the Internet. And yes, my refrigerators stayed cold the whole event.
not. I have no interest in 1 HP vehicles or oil lamps, I prefer things with letters. Ex. HDTV, CD, IPOD, DVD, NASCAR, 30fps tec. All of them need juice.
Yup, you got that correct 47. Only new problem is that if the cable goes out, no TV, Internet of landline so what in the hell do you do with the power? Usually cable never goes out though.
We don't have cable in our region: most broadband is ADSL and ADSL+2. So if the phone lines go out, there goes the internet. Same with the 3G mobile network for iPhone browsing. Hopefully one or the other will come back quick enough next time.
If you love your gen set then why are we seeing candles? Just woundering.

the storm was raging when I took this so rather than turning it on, I sat by the candles. The cable was also out so I didn't need juice.

Hey VBD .. can't find "The Morning After"?

Never made it. I called it Lights Out instead. After the water went down there wasn't much to see other than a bunch of leaves and branches

nobody here has basements. I guess being near sea level would make it an indoor swimming pool. Ahhh computer issues, never enjoyable.

both the house next to me and the one across the street are on another circuit. My suggestion, run an extension cord from their house.

Losing power is probably the worst part of storms: so boring! Generators are definitely worth their weight in gold!

Bah! After cyclone Larry a few years ago, and being out of power for 2 days, i went and bought a generator! It's not worth the bore having no power.
