You may have loose substrate, and feed you Gecko outside of the viv, so he won't have the tendency to swallow any sand when pouncing for crickets. there is however always the chance of him swallowing it. carpet is evil too, the gecko can snap his jaw off , like mine did, as it's made out of plastic felt, which catches the geckos mouth when hunting for food... Paper towel is the best, and worst

Quick question... Is your leopard gecko able to do tricks? And Is he trained like is he still okay with being hand feed?

@dognrunn It's difficult to say. A leopard gecko can't really do tricks, but they can recognize their owners and accept hand-feeding, as well as handling. I believe that they can trust to an extent; Dagon sometimes had trouble shedding, yet wasn't bothered by me helping him to shed by washing the skin with warm water and helping to pull it off gently.

My leo (11yrs old) just had a minor eye infection and wouldn't let anyone hold him without putting up resistance, however, he never squirms when i hold him and even lets me tilt him sideways to get the drops in better. If you were a gecko, wouldnt you recognize your owners voice after years of exposure to it?

@barrowscasper12 No, it doesn't hurt when a leopard gecko bites. Their jaws are surprisingly strong, but their teeth are very tiny and incapable of piercing your skin. Their jaws are to crush insects only, although it can pinch if you get your thumb. :p

@barrowscasper12 Sand and calci-sand is considered dangerous as the gecko can accidentally ingest it if the gecko is fed within the enclosure. The sand can become impacted within the gecko's system and cause a blockage, posing a high fatality risk. As leopard geckos are native to deserts, I'm not sure how it's so dangerous, but if you're very concerned, feed the gecko in an enclosure without sand (or just use paper for substrate).

they don't have teeth, so even if they do try and bite you (which they won't unless you corner them and they feel threatened) they won't puncture your skin. if you want a pet but don't have a lot of money these are one of your best options.

I got a question. Well i got a Leopard Gecko on Christmas of 2009 and it came skinny which i thought was normal but it never ate or anything. I caught it eating one time but when I saw him he jumped very quickly. And my uncle thought he was blind but I dont know. I even tried handfeeding him. As far as I know, nothing cures aids. Leopard geckos are just friendly and easy to care for reptiles, and are excellent alternative pets for people who are allergic to cats/dogs/birds.

@DYLONayms I'm not sure what you mean by ridiculous. If leopard geckos were endangered, I wouldn't be keeping one and would be leaving it up to the professionals to preserve the species. However, they're very common in their native habitat and as they breed easily in captivity, there's very little demand for wild stock. I don't like furry pets, but a gecko is friendly, interesting, easy to care for, small and quiet. And they don't make me sneeze.

If you let your gecko out, he will just run out. He just doesn't care about you. So it's ridiculous because it's like having a toy. A cute toy. But animals are not toys, they are animal, and they need to live in there natural habitat. It's the same for mouses, fishes, snake, birds...

Sometimes dogs, cats or horses just don't appeal to people, or they're too big/hard to keep in certain circumstances. People might not be able to tolerate furry pets, or they're not allowed to keep one in their housing apartment. It doesn't mean they shouldn't get to enkoy having a pet, even if they're not as affectionate as cats/dogs. And smaller animals are no more toys than larger

Leopards are very soft and dry, with bumpy scales across their back. They are very easy to care for also, and are usually gentle/calm. One thing to be careful of is their tail, which is also soft but comes if the gecko is threatened or if the tail is grabbed/pulled!

No. Occasionally when Dagon was in a skittish mood, rather than handling him and risking his tail, I would simply leave him alone until he was calm.
