Math Rock is an experimental/post-rock genre that uses erratic time signatures outside of 4/4, and focuses more on instrumentalization rather than vocals. Wikipedia has an extensive definition and explanation of Math Rock. Other math rock bands that, I believe, have helped to establish the math rock sound is Don Caballero, Giraffes? Giraffes!, toe (fr. Japan), Ghosts and Vodka, Look Mexico, Maps & Atlases, Sharks Keep Moving, Tera Melos, AND MANY MANY MORE.
