  • He doesn't ask any hard questions that you need a wealth of knowledge to answer, he asks people why they believe what they do while drawing comparisons that make it hard not to see the contradictions and inadequacies of those beliefs. He gets them thinking and that gives them pause.

  • I know a way to debunk Religulous: prove there's a God. Until then, there's no way to know if your answers would be any better than theirs. Will your answers stand up to scientific scrutiny?

  • ill-equipped? yeah...so basically anyone who believes in fairy tales is ill-equipped to run our country....and guess what

  • you and your shenanigans, FAIL

  • What ? WHAT !?!? Baptist Christians cannot , CANNOT be more Extremist than I am, at religion !!

BY White Priviledge of Eurocentric Fanaticism, I should be the most extremist of all. I am sure whatever those Baptist folk did you think is "extremist", I will easily surpass them.

Since I'm European, and I can't be beaten at my own religion by Neworlders.

  • Soooo..... you believe that it is better to just make up answers to tough questions, rather than going to all the trouble of finding the real answers.

  • @panterguy So you believe that's better to lock yourself up in a LABOR-RAT-OREY to make up those answers using gadgets trinkets experiments and plenty of alchemist medieval dogma lies, to answer all those tough questions?

Congratulations you fail at being a sheep. Even sheep have more dignity than that. Even when sheep get screwed by sheepfriggers, they have more dignity than you.

Now, crawl back to your laboratory, little rat, and labor yourself up some self esteem. For you lack it severly.

  • I can tell right off the bat you are a smart kid. And yes you are correct when you say "religion is an attempt to answer the "tough question." But you did't go far enough. What you should have said, but don't have the courage to say now, is that "religion is a DISHONEST attempt at answering the 'tough question' "

  • @TryTheRedPill So how is Atheism "Honest"?

Does Atheism dismantle all usage of Books, Writing, Superstitions, and all else that is without direct visual and tangible evidence?

    For I doubt such.

Atheism is like Jack the Ripper. You can't grab it by the sleeve, stop it from doing crime, or even accuse them of their crimes.

Atheists hide your Cult to infiltrate churches and rape / molest the children of the Theists you hate so much.

Now, go finish eating your relatives, before you reply.

  • @TryTheRedPill Would you be shocked if I said I disagree?

  • I am sure the movie was massively edited so that it would make exactly the points that Bill Maher wanted it to. So what, it was his movie! He is an entertainer, and I was rolling on the floor in laughter through much of it. Intellectual engagement with religious issues would be some other film, not Religulous.

Bill Maher doesn't think religion is worth engaging in, and I agree with him. The movie was a refreshingly irreverent piss-take of the most stupid aspect of humanity.

  • Or at least trying to poke holes in their beliefs??

You don't "try" to poke holes in the legitimacy claims of the Abrahamic religions, you just do it! The holes are already there clear as day. Its just a matter of pointing them out. Maher is only reiterating these obvious holes which many many people have found the courage to see themsleves

  • @benjmann2 link me to a reputable website that backs up your claim.

  • @benjmann2 you type like a highschooler, its kind of adorable really. sorry for my 'total use' of deflection and sorry you don't know how to use a semicolon. it's kind of funny how hypocritical you are; you accuse me of avoiding the points one makes yet you begin your post with 'wow you douche'. go play elsewhere, i'm growing tired of tearing you apart.

  • your a fucking idiot. sorry for the language but man come on. please drop the fake bullshit. you say you've seen things so you know god is real. YOUR FOOLING YOURSELF, take a good look at who you are really, dont be afraid to be true to yourself ignore god, ignore any and every ideal, who are you. just dwell on that for a while

  • @benjmann2 you need to learn how to type. there are multiple glaring grammatical errors that lead me to believe you're not well educated. it's not your fault, i understand that. leave the affairs of intelligent people to intelligent people in the future though, okay? that very well may have been a reason for them to leave the netherlands, but why even go there to begin with if that was the case? you used shoddy 'facts' to 'prove me wrong'. cite some reputable sources please. ^^

  • People and their imaginary friends LOLOL

  • Yeah that's enough... I'm going back to hot agnostic girl now

  • Oh man, same director as Borat? No wonder it kicked ass

  • I normally like your videos but I dont think ill be watching part 2 or 3

  • You religious types harbor such resentment towards people with open minds. Why? Why am I wrong to question your god? You know nothing about divinity, the same as me. Your only explanation for anything comes from a book, written by men. You "rationalize" and explain things with aspects that can't be dis-proven while us non-believers use facts, tests, physical examples to prove what we believe. Religion has nothing on free-thinkers and never will. You are the blind and ignorant. The end.

  • @SotaYoung Wow, you don't know me at me at all, clearly. You probably haven't even seen many of my videos if you really think that's how I am.

Also, you're stuffing me into a stereotype in which I don't belong. For example, when did I ever say you were wrong to question God? I'd never say that, ever. You can question all you want. I, personally, think there are answers to those questions, however. You are the blind and ignorant one for assuming that kind of crap about me.

  • @5thWatcher You state in your "recap" that many of these people he interviews are ill informed. And also, that anyone who believes in Bill Maher's ideals are quote "stupid". I agree with you that interviewing religious figures is a terrible way of obtaining facts as anything they spew is NOT fact. It is BELIEF. On the other hand, he interviews those employed by The Vatican, and yet, you still call them ill informed. Shows your faith in your own religious establishment. U R A Joke.

  • @5thWatcher I made it 2:00 min. into your excuse of a "recap" and that is the bullshit I've uncovered so far. The only person that is ill informed is you. And the judgement call you made of his viewers and fans is quite un-holy of you. For one of the Bible's moral guidelines is "thou shall not judge". You have your shit so ass backwards its pathetic. But why am I not surprised, all Rel. fanatics are hypocrites and poor excuses for so called "intelligence". There's my judgment call.

  • @benjmann2 it's called you're american and the people running america teach you that americans fled religious persecution because we're a 'free' nation now. pilgrims fled england because they felt the church was corrupt, they moved to the netherlands and found it was too free religiously and then went to america to impose their puritan beliefs on others without being under the rule of the church of england. prove me wrong.

  • @benjmann2 i believe that was actually research by reputable scientists.

  • I found Religulous interesting. i do wish he would have picked some people that were a big more of a challenge to him.

    Agreed...the Catholics are loco.

  • Hello sir, I enjoyed your response. I am an Atheist and have some questions.

    1. Why don't you accept other religions/Gods?

    2. Do you believe that the world will end due to the rapture?

    3. Do you believe in evolution/creation, or perhaps both?

    thanx

  • LOLOLOL

  • about the 'jesus existed' rebuttal you had, i agree that the consensus is that there was someone around 2000 years ago named jesus but there is also a general consensus that there was a guy named santa claus. doesn't mean santa claus goes around to every house on christmas and it doesnt mean jesus performed miracles.

the white pioneers of this country did not come here for freedom of religion by the way. they came because they didn't like the freedom of religion in europe. check your facts bro.

  • 07:53 - typical 'Christian' approach...

  • You sir, are an idiot, chin up

  • It would be nice if you put a little more thought into your argument....

  • This guy is in denial...and why is it always the religious folks who don't have a clue...lol...and he couldn't pronounce religulous right...don't care if you delete it you are a tool...blessings

  • This guy is in denail...and why is it always the religious folks who don't have a clue...lol...blessings

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAHAHAHAhAha!!!!!

LONG LIVE BILL MAHER AND RATIONAL, LOGICAL THINKING!!

  • If he pokes holes, then that means they actually HAVE holes.

  • It was The Apostle John---"the disciple whom Jesus loved." John the Baptist was like Jesus' 'George Bush Sr.' and died Jesus' ministry. And VisionToAmerica-dot-org is one of the groups claiming that America was founded as a 'Christian' government, but that's only true insofar as each person's freedom is 'given to them directly from their Creator' (as Our Father gives it to us through Big-Brother Jesus)

  • hahahah 5th watcher if your a christian arent you pissed god made you haggard, ugly, dumb and weird???

  • As an atheist/agnostic, I have to at least give you credit for having a somewhat open mind (compared to your fellow "Christians"). I assume you know that most of your views would be considered heresy by many (possibly a majority) of Christians, at least in the US. The problem with your criticism is that it's mostly of stuff that wasn't in the movie. You assume that anything pro-Christian was edited out or intentionally ignored. I doubt there is any religious belief that Bill could not refute.

  • Rehligaless

  • Ted Haggard is Ted Faggard.

    PERIOD.

  • This guy looks like a Heroin addict...He can't even pronounce the name of the film..I believe in God..but this guy needs to take a seat.

  • SOMEBODY GET THIS GUY A NAP!

  • I bet you think jewses woz blond too.......

  • HEY! leave terminator alone! the first one was the best one, i raved about 2 because i saw it in the theater, and was on acid! very visually dazzling, but it lacked the gritty awsomeness, and relyed more on flash. it is still awsome though, and those are the 2 good terminator movies.

  • (yr narcissistic for saying oh "look at what I had to say in this video" unless it's really that damn hard to rebuttal a comment in thie thread for all to see with TEXT

  • @5thwatcher. Nice fail at not answering what senses have you detected god with." I like how when I posted a comment on some other vid of yrs on accident while searching fo this sposed other existing video of yrs you comment about the thread here. I shouldn't have got a reply cuz I basically said my phone changed a bunch of my words and this makes no sense, so diregard it.

  • (cont)It takes years sometimes to get to that point in life and ask yrself honestly the BIG questions and not act as if you know all the answers or where to find them. Many preachers find this out eventually but feel literally stuck by that point to leave their only career and entire family and friends. IT HAPPENS A LOT.

  • @5thwatcher looked for yr vid Dawkins fail #1 but could not find it. Pls type out yr point. I happen to be of like minded and have read his work. Have you? Or have you only been exposed to his videos/interviews. I know personally many theists that only entertain him to try to make effort of rebuttal. Never have they opened themselves up to reading with an open mind.

  • @5thwatcher what senses have you detected god with?

  • @5thwatcher just because two teachers in morality would concur on the same thoughts only proves just that, they have a good sense of morality. Do unto others as you would have done onto you is an extremely common sense morality law within any civilization/society that realizes what happens when too much power is given to one individual or group of individuals alone. It's called wisdom and comes with life experience. You are not past yr 20s, am I wrong?

  • (cont.) It's called faith for a reason, a person's senses do not detect a god/gods. Losing it is not a sign of weak will, but open mindedness that other possibilities are just as likely and knowledge is the key to yr own belief. That is the most valued and respected way to approach the matter. Don't cacoon yrself.

  • @billmaher4tw My senes have.

  • @5thWatcher Well it's true that often he's talking with average folk, but sometimes there are "experts" as well. But isn't that the point? That people believe stuff they've never really questioned. Either way the only serious tone in the movie is the "conclusion". It's all just poking fun, showing that only the word "faith" stands between non-sense being seen as such, as opposed to some "unseen truth". My take on the movie is that it was fun ride highlighting the ridiculousness of faith

  • (cont) P.S. I once shared yr faith from a very early age. Just being an art major alone forced exposure to all religions through education of art done BC and BCE (most art was made to revere what the people believed all over the world.

  • @billmaher4tw I was an art student too, and I have done lots of research into religion in general. Having this new information has transformed my faith, but it has in no way damaged it.

  • Christopher hitchens is someone of great respect you can find all over the Internet and will start to make you REALLY think about things yr pastor won't bring up about the bible. Just some honest advice to a younger person who seems to crave knowledge and truths. Don't believe something someone promises you is true. Only multiple perspectives, open-mindedness, and MANY books that include ones that debate each other will enlighten u.

  • @billmaher4tw I bet I am older than you think.

  • @billmaher4tw I can't stand people who say shit like that. Do you really think religious people are only religious because they've never heard what Christopher Hitchens has to say about religion? Or that they must not have really thought about it? To some people God makes more sense than the big bang (and that's not something to be concerned about).

  • I encourage you to challenge yr faith & seek the open minded truth and believe what yr mind tells you makes sense in the age of information vs relying on one single "chosen set" of books (bible) alone. (cont.)

  • @billmaher4tw "...relying on one single "chosen set" of books" Actually I also consider myself a Taoist. And yes, the thought system is really entirely compatible with Christianity. Lao Tzu and Jesus would have been best buds.

  • Give scholars more attention, they are much more educated than you and I can say that by your age. The "minority" of those scholars have legit reasons to doubt the couple of so called "historians" that claim Jesus was real. Nonetheless it was quite popular at that time to claim to be a prophet due to people having thirst for "truths." now those people seek education and usually lose their faith along the way if they give secular un-biased universities a chance.

  • @ 5thwatcher "you just believe things made by guys that suck." laughed outloud on that one. Yr so deep in that crap u can't see how stupid that comment made you look. All religions are are self help books for the weak and lazy minds who rather hear what is professed to be true thousands of years ago when all you need is interest in searching for real truth by educating yrself. I you were born in japan you'd be a Buddhist, during he Greek empire -belief in Zeus etc.. (cont.)

  • @billmaher4tw "All religions are are self help books for the weak and lazy minds" ...unless they're not. Just because I don't like the way the Catholic Church does things doesn't mean I have to reject Christianity as a whole. As far as where I was born, check my video "Dawkins Fail #1"

  • @yesterayshere always wondered this about u folk... Why hate on the devil so much? Afterall, he was an angel at one point that needed and I'm sure even now still needs* "prayers"' more than any other existing soul. Why pray for those in he'll when god himself has the "power" 'to heal satan's heart and obliterate his "power in the underworld" for all of mankind. If you really believe that crap, I think that might be the only soul worthy for prayer. *sarcastic cough

  • Nice video whit some ideas equal to mine when i saw the movie. Just two things: im a christian catholic and i do not suck. Why the hate in anglo saxonic contries for catholicism??? Are we on the XVI or XVII century??? Second: The usa are a christian nation besause christianity is on the cultural matrix of the contry. Religion is more than going to church my friend. Peace!!!

  • I take issue that science has no place examining the metaphysical. If the metaphysical can be accurately said to have any baring upon the physical, this should be in some form observable. If prayer (for example) actually alters the outcome of any situation, shouldn't that be observable? If not, why?

  • If you're gonna claim a thing is the broad opinion among scholars, trying to prove it is always worth the effort, and always appreciated. That said, I have no sufficient reason to believe that Jesus did not exist, though I don't believe the claims about him. Additionally, the Jesus-Horus comparison is bunk, if anyone else bothered to look in to that. Bad atheist arguments embarrass me.

  • Atheism is religion because 1st its a belief, 2ndly you're worshipping the devil to not put God first, and the devil would want you to believe he doesn't exist.. the most insane killers hear the devil so how is there no opposing side, meaning GOD

  • @yesterayshere actually many holy men start wars after hearing the word of god in their own deluded heads - george bush said god told him to invade iraq- the spanish killed and tortured in the name of god- the "good " one!

  • Philosphical perspective and gets facts wrong? He doesnt have to provide facts to prove his point. Bill Mayer has always said the majority of American people are basically retarded for believing in religion...Leading me neatly to my next point: Living in a giant fish for 3 days? Virgin childbirth? Every animal on one boat? Black/Asians/Hispanics/White/Indian all spawning from 2 white people dropped in a jungle with a talking snake? Sounds perfectly reasonable to me!!!

  • I love that movie.

  • The height of arrogance is atheism. by a Mensan.

  • @gingerlori52 Good for a Mensan. Who cares if you're a Mensan? That's a ridiculous statement, and I'd figure a Mensan of such great humility to know precisely why, though I'll happily inform you if giving you my humble common-folk opinion doesn't insult your massive intelligence.

  • Ok, dude, 3 things:

    1) The whole point of it was to show just how ignorant and stupid religious people are, and Bill managed to do that easely because .. well lets face it, religious people are idiots.

    2) Atheists hate religious people because religion always led human kind to self destruction or arrogant abuse and torture over minority.

    3) Who the fuck belives in God these days and is considerd a sane or smart person? I mean really, why is it so hard to think outside the box for one second?

  • funny seeing a snoop dog ad before this

  • OK, my rebuttal to your 1st point is that "YOU think that the ppl Maher interviews in the movie, which clearly include priests, rabbis, etc who not only preach their religion but also teach it to the followers are ILL-EQUIPPED to answer the questions he asks, basically sounds like you're simply saying 'religious ppl are completely un-educated about their OWN religion'"

Shouldn't they be completely thorough with their own religion?

Or do you agree that they speak out of their asses half the time?

  • @Cheiko18 Most people do, actually, yeah. Though to be fair there was one or two guys that thought knew their stuff.

  • You seem like a nice person, so I'll go easy on you. I have a single question for you. I will not accept anything that leaves room for doubt, as an answer to my question.

Prove that God exists. I don't mean just say "God exists because the Bible says he does." Or, "God exists because we're alive."

Regardless of how much of a smart-ass I sound like, I'm not trying to be one.

By the way It's, freedom of religion and 'FROM' religion. Atheism, is not a religion.

  • US ATHEISTS ARE GLAD YOU ADMIT CHRISTIANS ARE TOO DUMB TO ANSWER AN ATHEIST QUESTION LOL

  • I THINK THAT DISLIKE BAR SHOWS EVERYTHING

  • so wait, do you believe in aliens and Santa right? i mean god is pretty similar right??

  • Religulous was smart and hilarious

  • The only stuff that's false in the movie is the shitty stories the people in there believe, almost everything Bill Maher is true.

  • How is such a retard like you a YouTube partner?

  • well, hun, you always have that Ben Stein movie if you want something that backs your side up and demonizes us atheists. I personally love Religulous and am very happy for it.

  • @milkmankennedy The Ben Stein movie in no way backs up my position. If any documentary backs up my position, it's "Lord, Save Us From Your Followers". Last I checked it's on Netflix.

  • i think you bring up good points, but, your brainwashed, your parents are probably christian, and they taught you Christianity, therefore your christian. go to your front lawn, get a hose, put it in your ear, and re wash your brain that your parents corrupted. thanks.

  • It's interesting that none of there other authors in the area at the time wrote a thing about jesus. There is no evidence for his existence outside of the bible. The people that say jesus was definitely a person are mostly biblical scholars, people who studied biblical history and history in general because they were christian in the first place.

  • @CheckYourFactsPlease CheckYourFactsPlease, check your facts, please. People in that tie did write about Jesus. One f the first was Pail, only 20 yrs after Jesus' death. Also there is plenty of evidence for Jesus outside the Bible. Enough that the historical existence of Jesus can be totally supported even without the Bible. Check out my "Historical Jesus" video. Not all "biblical scholars" are Christian, and scholars on ancient history also agree that Jesus existed. (to be con't)

  • @5thWatcher I want to expand on that last point. You clearly do not know what a scholar is. Scholars follow the scholarly method in order to make sure their concussions aren't biased; there are atheist biblical scholars too, btw, and biblical scholars are not informed by their beliefs but by their understanding of "textual criticism". Please look that up, you'll learn something. Also, scholarly works are peer reviewed, meaning that the facts are checked by others in the field. Check YOUR facts!

  • @5thWatcher ive got to say your argument at around 4 mins that at least religion makes an attempt to answer a question, yes it does provide an answer, however that is not a valid argument, saying that providing an answer with nothing to back it up apart from the original answer its self is better than no answer at all, its not in fact its worse because people do no kill each other over not knowing the answer, i would like to hear how you would be able to justify that religion is not a bad thing

  • but if you seperate yourself for just one minute from your own ego and mentality, youll realize that your life is as meaningless (though still special) as the ant you killed on the picnic table last week. gamma ray bursts millions of light years away can wipe us out without warning, your life is a gift and nothing short of it....live it like it should be lived. religion does completely kill the essence of the true beauty that is going on around us....the real miracle is that "life finds a way"

  • without the human consciousness, there is no creation or belief in religion or gods. the animals live day to day as one with the earth, fight and kill each other and think nothing of it....you know why? because they cant. does that make us "special"? i look in an animals eyes and see the same eyes that i have in my head....just perceived differently. Maybe different depth perception. But the same world. what makes me so special? what makes you so special? religion just gives this thinking rest.

  • why does everybody hate other peoples ethnics or beleifs or religions if it wasnt for god we woundnt be here god is your real father so every fathers day i say happy fathers day to god when i pray

  • When you say that Bill prepared himself before the movie that is completly obvious, he even had cue cards. The people that had to answer those questions that were put on the spot could not come up with a ligitimate answer which means they are either neglagent to their own beliefs or relize that what Bill is saying is true they imediatly get on the defensive and just cannot believe it is true.

  • REE- LiJ- U - Liss

  • god is logic = theoreticalphysics.webs.com

  • @comfortat it is not physically impossible for a bee to fly because it does, it is aerodynamically impossible if we built it. The human species is at least one hundred thousand years old according to science and science is the study of the laws which govern the universe, your knowledge comes from a book which is not correct according to the laws of the universe, my point... it should be discarded as truth. There is no scientific evidence for a great flood.

  • @ashcmitch88 It's not physically impossible for a man to walk on water, because Jesus did it. There is not one shred of evidence to prove anything else you said. There are no "laws of the universe." Good luck with your whole "Man is smarter than God and religious people are stupid" thing.

    Peaxe

  • @comfortat '' It's not physically impossible for a man to walk on water, because Jesus did it.'' There is zero evidence for that story.

  • And I think there are several people who were doing things that Jesus supposedly did. He wasn't the only rebellious Jew at that time. Some feel the Jesus character (in the bible) was a blend of those people and some of the gods of the past such as Horus...Even though most of what he said about Horus in the movie was wrong. But the fact remains that Horus was the spawn of divinity, result of a miracle birth, was hidden as a baby for fears he would be killed so he wouldn't become king, etc.

  • There are a plenty of religious people as radical as Westboro...They may not all be Christians but there are plenty who are that radical and the point is that depending on how you interpret the Bible, it can easily lead to that type of thinking and action. And I think most people know how small Westboro is.

  • Maher is a pseudo intellectual. He will be the most surprised when he meets God face to face.

Great video, don't let the haters get you down.

  • @comfortat the bible is scientifically incorrect...

  • @ashcmitch88 roflmao... you have no idea what the bible says.

  • @comfortat it says the universe is less than ten thousand years old which is scientifically incorrect

  • @ashcmitch88 The creation story has all the marks of a an allegory, so it's really not saying that. I don't see you complaining about what Aesop's fables claim (also allegories).

  • @ashcmitch88 No it doesn't. As I said before, you have no idea what the bible says. Seriously, if you've never studied the bible, you are only showing ignorance by stating that you know what it says. If you want to end your ignorance, start here:

  • @ashcmitch88 truth or tradition, go to the "articles by topic", then, "can we trust the bible", then scroll through the articles and read the ones relating to your supposition. After that, feel free to ask questions, or state opinions. Otherwise, you are speaking about things with which you know nothing.

  • @comfortat what.... i have, it is chapter 1 and 2 of genesis. It is not correct and did not happen under the laws of physics that have reigned in this universe for 13.7 billion years, therefore the book should either be discarded or come under fiction.

  • @ashcmitch88 Please quote the biblical verse that says how old the universe is.... I'm pretty sure it says "In the beginning" and does not put a date on it. You believe the beginning is the first day as it relates to the 7 days in which God made man and plants and animals, etc. This is a common misconception. Research the "gap theory" as it relates to the first two verses in the bible. I cannot post links here, or I would help you. Also, research "old earth theory."

  • @comfortat in chapter one genesis it says the heavens and the earth were created at the same time, whereas the gap was around 8 billions years. It says in mark 6:45 it says Jesus walked on water...this is also physically impossible. It fails to mention any other of the billions of planets that 'god 'created. Also it is scientifically impossible to have the genetic diversity now present in present day animals if the great flood happened. Also story of adam and eve is impossible...

  • @ashcmitch88 The heavens and the earth were created at the same time. We have no absolute date for when that was. Then something devastating happened and wiped life forms from the face of the earth, the earth did not evaporate or disappear. About 7000 years ago, God started over with the life forms we see today, including humans, and all the diversity was made by Him. It is physically impossible for a bumblebee to fly... what's your point? How is the story of Adam and Eve impossible?

  • @comfortat plus the heavens and earth were not created at the same time

  • Muslim's in here.

And f**in take no care about it *continue reading newspaper

  • @and1smax Did you see the movie though? It was particularly harsh against Islam, though I'm not the guy to be defending that since I don't know as mush about it as a Muslim would.

  • @5thWatcher Well, i watched that stuff at all. And you know why i take no care? Because it's already TONS of shit like that we (Muslims) got everyday as the result of those islamophobic propaganda ;) You know what i mean, just type "Islamophobia" in youtube and you'll find out why

  • @5thWatcher

The bible is not the word of god, it was written by man and it is a collection of stories and fables, some based on fact others based on hear say. I have no proof of this. However, my faith that the bible was not written by god is unshakable and I do not have to prove my faith even though there is far more evidence to suggest that god does not exist.

One point in the movie I would like you too address is the fact that the story of jesus had been done before. Plagarism anyone???

  • @jcotter1888 The Bible was written by man but when it comes to history, especially ancient history, so called "hearsay" is still useful and used by historians to reconstruct the events of the past. In the case of the gospels, we aren't talking about one single "hearsay" account but several, with external corroborating sources and corroboration with each other.

  • @5thWatcher No historians will ever base their information on ''hearsay'', completly ridiculous. You don't even know who wrote the bible lol

  • Wow you actually watched the movie. More than most 'christians' would do. I listened to your rambling for long enough and stopped your video on the Johna and the whale part. You said "there is a moral you can learn". Sure there are moral (analogies) in the bible but there is a LOT of bullshit there too. The problem with religion is how it closes the believers mind to scientific understanding (i.e. evolution). I loved the movie for it's comic value and expose of the silliness that is religion.

  • @worktosser And the problem with science is that they close their minds to the spiritual truths contained in the scriptures, God created us with minds that can reason and wonder and invent. Combining the knowledge of God with your scientific inquiry will lead to discoveries unimagined before. Evolution is one of the dumbest theories ever put forth.

  • @comfortat But, unfortunately for your argument, evolution is the only one that fits all the facts.

The scientific method does not close minds, it invites other minds to scrutinize each others work. If it passes scrutiny, then it is accepted.

The difference between the religious mind and the scientific mind is the latter is keenly aware of what evidence it would need to see to change its mind. The religious mind is closed no matter what evidence it is presented.

  • Within the first 30 seconds you mispronounce the name of the movie twice.

If you can't even get that right, why should I watch any further?

  • 1.You talk about a lack of 'facts' within the film. (The irony, of someone of faith, questioning facts 'or lack of')

    2. Bill speaks to a political powerhouse, a Muslim cleric, a Rabbi, a Priest among others, who did you want him to interview, Jesus himself?

    3. One of the main components of film making is editing.

    4. Bill doesn't qualify as an atheist, he is agnostic, research needed.

    5. George W. Bush SUCKS! - Sounds like something a follower of Christ should say.

  • @adampartington 1. There are lots of facts about everything. In this case, history and epistemology.

    2. A scholar of religion/Christianity would have been perfect.

3.If you didn't catch my meaning you are genuinely an idiot; I'm talking about *deceptive* editing.

    4. Agnosticism is a weak type of atheism, but either way, you're nit-picking.

    5. No, really - they should.

  • Agnostic's 'nit pick' and 99% of Christians don't? Have you ever conversed with a Christian, all they do is 'nit pick' with the bible.

Telling someone they 'suck' or calling them an idiot isn't very Christ like. I can't imagine Christ ever making statements like those. One of his fundamental teachings is to love your enemies + those that don't follow your train of thought...

No really, it is, its in that book you hold up when you when you scream at gay people!!!

  • @adampartington I think you're confused. YOU are nit-picking. Not "agnostics".

The incident with the money changers tells me that some things are worth getting riled up about. Bush is one of those things. I suppose you supported Bush, by the sound of it.

I've never yelled at anyone with a bible in my hand. Seriously, you can just shut your face if you are going to accuse me of shit. You don't se me calling you an abortion loving heathen or anything. Pretend to be an adult.

  • @5thWatcher Again, the irony of someone who believes in a talking snake telling me to try and "pretend to be an adult".

I'm British, I didn't support Bush. My point was with you, using un-christ like put downs.

  • @adampartington How about the irony of you throwing out accusations after condemning me for using put downs.

Also, I do not believe in a talking snake. Seriously, quit assuming what positions I hold, you know nearly nothing about me. I'm not gonna sit here and defend positions I don't hold, nor will be made to constantly explain why your stereotyping and judgements are outlandishly ignorant. If atheists are supposed to be so much better at life then Christians, then you're a walking paradox.

  • Religion makes people feel good about their life and where they are going. it is also the driving force of war. Religion is full of good intentions, and selfish ones. I'm not being good to hope I get extra jewels in my crown. I just want to be a good person. I am not evil and I have no desire to do it. You have to seperate their logic from the Bible, because the Bible is the master of extraordinary claims which defy logic. Christians call evidence a missing body. I call it lack of evidence.

  • @KatieTaylor24 People use religion to justify war to the masses at times, but the true motivator can always be traced back to a desire for greed or power.

  • All of the bible is made by guys who suck....How do you know that the bible is accurate? What validates your religion over the countless many others that have existed since the dawn of man? And you say that stuff in the bible should not be interpreted literally, well how do you decide when the bible should be interpreted literally, and when should it not be? Should no homosexuality relations be literally or not, and how do you decide?

  • @Bendybender No, you grow yours yours out, you corporate square.

  • I'd be curious to hear, from a Jamesion pragmatic perspective, what do you think the consequential difference between believing and living (often questionable) a Christian life, and that of a non-believing, or agnostic life. Just because I get tired of the 'proof' or 'dis-proof' for or against religion.

  • Dude religion BAD, G-D good. that's one of Bill Maher messages

  • I must say that I really like this guy, even though I myself am doubting Christianity and personally loved Religulous. He rebuts with facts rather than with sloppy emotional nonsense like a lot of the response videos I see on here. He recognizes the flaws as well as the things that are good about this movie. I think that he does a swell job of sticking up for his beliefs without offending anybody (besides the occasional "these guys suck.")

  • Grand! You went and saw the movie and were deeply offended big suprise bud, fyi he aims more at the logic then the actual belief system. it's not his fault the bible is a contradictory text. and I love ho these christians always say the same catch phrase " His facts are wrong" lets take a look at the facts. Jesus' story has been told many times before, it's caused innumerable deaths, and is a large cause for most wars.SO what are your facts? Maher jokes about how often his info is "inaccurate"

  • Problem is most religious people are ill equipped. I'm a former Christian myself. And my whole family is religious. Getting far enough away form religion helped me to see the overall ignorance most have. Poor education and strong religion do go hand in hand...studies have shown this to be consistent, so it makes you think.

  • @KatieTaylor24 Im turning 18 this year, Im in High School and Im aiming for a doctorate in philosophy. I don't understand why you cant be educated and Christian at the same time? You think I will deconvert back to atheism when Im "fully educated." ?

  • @LarsTheHonest You can be educated and Christian but you will really have to seperate your normal logic from religion. Once you start learning how Christianity got started, you realize men made it up, this will politically and culturally driven. We can never explain why we don't see such miracles now that were made to seem so common place in Biblical times. People believed because they saw..to us that is just a story...we don't see anything, we just have alot of hearsay and false propaganda.

  • @KatieTaylor24 OKay, so apparently, atheists have a separate atheist-logic too? What evidence is there that religion was "made up"? No offense but it is a rare displeasure to hear this very laymen and unresearched claim, and when ever I hear it I can't but think YOU are the one making things up.

There was at one time a class between religious logic and regular logic, but with some research I came to better understand issues and reconcile them. Now there is no clash at all.

  • Alot of Christians are ill equipeed to respond to questions. I heard an athiest talk show host mention that he never aired the only dumb religious peoples calls....every theist who called ended up making fools up themselves and hardly an educated christian would call. I have read that studies show that high relgion is associated with poor education, so it does make me think just how credible things are.

  • @KatieTaylor24 those are correlations; they are insignificant. The cause is more significant. Th cause is poverty level in the place of residence. THose people are uneducated because they grew up in poorer areas. It also so happes that most poor people are more religious. So they share a a root cause, but being religious doesn't cause the poor education, the poverty level in the area does.

  • Great video, I agree with much of your criticism of the movie, BUT ..

The Gospels were indeed written by eye witnesses. You dont believe that? U dont believe the apostles wrote NT? The manuscripts we have today are not written by the apostles, but they are copies of the originals, which were written by the apostles. The originals were probably written within 70AD.

And John the Baptist did not write Revelations, he was beheaded before Jesus was crucified. It is John the apostle who wrote it.

  • You know after watching Pen and Teller, George Carlin, Richard Dawkins, Bill Maher, etc. etc, my religion took a major hit. And you know I decided to look around to see for proof from fellow believers, and after watching people such as yourself, I am now elightened to say that I am now an athiest. It's a bit depressing but I also feel many times more intelligent.

  • Science does not lead to religion. Let science be science and religion be religion. If you want proof for God, you need religious experiences, not historical evidence that Jesus lived or compelling philosphical arguments. Apologetics are good for defending Christianity, but it can in no way convert someone to believe in God. For that to happen, you will need to seek the religion itself. Read the Bible, be with Christians, try to live like a Christian and pray. Only then can u be convinced.

  • @TheHandsomeDonovan welcome, friend.

  • @TheHandsomeDonovan Welcome to the club of intelligent Americans.

  • @wariorundead Haha it's a small group, but it's the truth

  • I have talked to many different people about religion and I like Maher have said that "I dont know" what the truth is. that I don't have the answers. This is where i believe you went wrong with your video.See, me and many other people as well say we dont know.why is this wrong? that doesn't mean I dont attempt to think if different religions are possible. I believe ANY religion CAN be very true, but even if it is I STILL DON'T KNOW / DON'T HAVE THE ANSWERS.its extremely ignorant to say you know.

  • They all need to die? I agree but nice christian beliefs you got there. typical.

  • Whhaaa, go get a job.

  • Religulus sounds like a decent movie too.
