The Queen was really great film. Hellen Mirren did a great job - phenomenal acting but I have a big doubt Queen would drive a car alone in real life. They depicted Tony Blair as very cute guy while in reality he made so many mistakes.

@DocDeKing We can debate the whole concept of democracy, and royalty and even how they intertwine. And we can do deeply into philosphical terms. But the monarchy in this country works incredibly well. I do not worship her or any member of the family. I criticize them whenever they deserve it. I am a bit patriotic and there is nothing wrong with that. It is a harmless instituion that represent our history, culture and is quite a safeguard of our constitution - a "fire extingusher," as it were.

The truth is that by abolitioning the monarchy we would gain as little as if, by popular upsrising the citizens of London killed the lions in their zoo. There may have been a time when lions were dangerous in the U.K, but the sight of them in their cages now only give a pleasureable shudder of awe, which the nation will not willingly deprive.

I think Mirren, probably as directed, played the Queen far too whining. This film was an very overrated bit of propaganda and, as the Queen is still alive and Diana had only been dead for 9 years, in rather bad taste. But, then, what would one expect from the people who had her taken out?

The Queen was really great film. Hellen Mirren did a great job - phenomenal acting but I have a big doubt Queen would drive a car alone in real life. They depicted Tony Blair as very cute guy while in reality he made so many mistakes.

Its an afront to the poor and an irritation to the right minded people of the UK . I dont want her executed. I want her placed in a council flat in Manchester on jobseekers allowance.

@sabaton1231 We have virtually NO relation with Canada. Quebec wants independence in fact. Australians probably soon will follow. We in fact had ONE civil war which was won by Oliver Cromwell and a republic declared. The position of King was abolished and all power was vested in Parliament which is supreme. Rightly or wrongly our allegience is now with the EEC by virtue of the treaty of rome. Parliament has the power to abolish the Monarchy and the Lords in a heartbeat. It should do so.

As an Irishman you'll get no arguments from me regarding that and if the monarchy was abolished it would be good for Irish unity. The Loyalists in N. Ireland would be left in limbo for a start, for who would they be loyal to if the Queen was made redundant?! Another problem if the monarchy was abolished - what would replace The United Kingdom as the name of your country? The Republic of Britain?

@clearly I coldn't agree with you more, Mr. clearly! Ireland should never have been divided in the first place. My grandfather was a follower of John Redmond, MP, the leader of the Irish Parlimentery party and he like thousands of Irishmen north and south fought in WW 1. The prize for this was Home Rule but the war messed everything up.1916 rising happend and really fucked everything up! I would gladly go back into the UK and get rid of our useless politicians and bankers who have ruined Ireland

@rigel5 By the way, I wouldnt care if the new capital of the "Republic of the British Isles" were to be in Dublin which was the first city of the Empire. My wifes Grandfather fought in WW1 and we have the medals to prove it.
Dublin is beautiful and we were seperated by religion, of all things. Irish people have had such a great influence over society. James Joyce, Swift, Brendan Behan and Oscar Wilde to name but four doesnt do Ireland justice. We mix well except for certain Kings and "Rulers".

@rigel5 I saw this film for the first time just a few weeks ago. I know it is just a film but I believe it truly represents how superior the queen feels over her "subjects" I look forward to the forthcoming "The Kings speach" soon to be shown. I'm sure it will be as irritating as this movie was. The time was never more right to abolish the monarchy for ever. I know some Irish and Scots wont agree with me. I'm not a subject and never want to be.

Helen Mirren was brilliant on this role, but the entire concept of the movie disappoints me, the queen was shown as a victim , but the victims were Diana, William, Harry and all of those who really cared for their beloved princess of wales.
