What do you mean ugly accent? accents are not ugly, only those who can't understand them find them "ugly". Northerners pronounce vietnamese words with greater accuracy than southerners. I don't consider northern accent more refined or highly educated, and majority ,if not all of southerners will agree. Language is sophisticated only when its spoken from a sophisticated person.
Ur referring to the Southern accent which is typically more nasal. Northern accents are smoother & generally regarded as the more refined/elegant accent simply because the pronunciation is more accurate and articulate (Nothing to do with the connotations they carry, e.g. Oxford accents = higher education at Oxford Uni). Northenr accents are the preferred accent for TV, voice-overs, MCs, hosts etc...

Her accent is the most annoying I've ever heard. The best/ nicest VN accent I've heard are the ones in HK series dubbed in US.
