Bought the kit after watching this... holy crap, it was NOT as easy as you make it look! Lol. I paint my nails every other day so I wouldn't consider myself a novice at stuff like this, but it seems really hard to keep the layers thin enough! Mine turned out really thick and goopy along the edges and around the cuticle. Arg. Once I get the hang of it though, I think I'll love it!
Thanks for the video Jess, and also to those who commented with the great tips! :)
5 days to a week?!? Oh my... I work in a salon and day spa and we specialize in Gelish Mani's... I get them once a month and seriously they last me an entire month! =)
Yes I recommend Gelish over Shellac. The reason it can chip sometimes is because your natural nail has some peeling/flaking on it which you will need to very gently buff away. Also make sure you cap the edges so water can't get in between the natrual nail and the Shellac/Gelish
I work with Gelish nails at work. A great way to soak off your nails is to cut some cotton pads to the size of your finger nail, cut some tin foil to wrap around each finger and saturate the cotton pad with acetone and wrap the tin foil around it! much less damaging for your nails! Also Gelish and Shellac are different Shellac is a hybrid (nail polish combined with a gel) and Gelish is a liquid gel. Gelish is less damaging to the nails because the nail polish in the Shellac dehydrates the nail
I have cnd products and I love them. I know you had cream puff on in one of your videos. Just curious if yours has ever bubbled on you? The reason I'm asking is because my cream puff got all bubbly on me after I cured it and I have no idea why! It was the weirdest thing. I haven't had it that long so I'm not sure why it did that. Oh, also just fyi, you can use rubbing alcohol instead of the solution you were using for putting on before and taking the sticky stuff off after. :)
So happy you did this!. I purchase the kit several days ago, should be expecting it soon. Now that I've watched you I don't need to read the info . :)
So Im a cosmetologist too and I am debating buying a gel system just for my home use however I have read many things online that women are saying that they still chip sometimes only after a day or two. Would you be up for taking pictures of your nails once you paint them and then take a picture each day after that so we can see how long they really last and how bad the chipping is after a few days? Hopefully that wasnt too confusing
i hate the fact that Sally's sell this stuff to the public. I am a professional nail technician and in a way its taking money out of my pocket. To get these products you should have to have a license.
@morganleah1980 Don't worry. There will always be clumsy people like myself that NEED talented folks like you to help! I would never be able to do mine myself.
@mebeluvined Thank you for the great comment. It made me smile and reminded me why i went to aesthetics school in the first place. Which is to make people look and feel beautiful inside and out. Thank you! :)
Thank you so much for this video. I've been wanting to get my nails shellaced, but I know that I would want to keep it up at home. This is the first I've heard of the Gellish, so this is great for me!
To those of you who were wondering I you can use the system with a normal nail polish, you can. I have the gelish system and I do the base coat, uv it, then do approximately two coats of a normal nail polish, making sure that my nail polish is completely dry since you can't uv it. Then I do the top coat and uv it and then wipe it clean and it works just the same :)
This is so awesome!! I have to say I was a little hesitant at first thinking this is going to be difficult BUT you make it look so simple and I Love love love the nails, cant wait to buy/try it!!
i did shellac for a few months but then i got kind of paranoid about the uv light on my hands... im so tempted to try the gellish system and use spf 90 on my hands hahah
thnxx... i saw many girls doing this on you-tube but i asked them what is this thing??? i really don't have any idea of this stuff now after seeing your tutorial i got to know what this is really...thank you for that.... can you please tell me the site from where i can buy this... :)
This probably is a dumb question and I am not trying to be a troll, I am honestly just curious, but what is the point of this system? To me, it looks just like regular painted nails, but costs a lot and take a long time.
Jess thanks so much for doing this vid. I have never heard of Gelish before (I have heard of shellac though) so you introduced me to a whole new beauty product. Which of course = shopping YAY. I have to say every time you mention a pro product such as the CND I always think AWW I miss having my license, but I sure don't miss dealing with some of the ppl or the sore feet LOL.
did you ever try putting your camera on macro? i think you have the same camera as my friend and at the very top you just move the little bar over to set it on macro and the quality should be really good when you get up close but that may be toooo close haha, i'm not sure. worth a shot though :)
@engelneen Thank you for watching!! I haven't noticed any damage to mine really, except after you soak your nails in the pure acentone to take the gel nails off the nail beds do tend to be dry and weak. So if I don't do another gel nail color I immediately put on a nail strengthener. But yes my nails have never been as long as they are now and they are much harder.
@browneyes086 They sell the individual polishes for around 11-12 dollars I believe, the prep/post liquid is around 4-6 dollars... I don't know how much they sell the base and top coat for (because I used the CND ones I already had which were each around 15 dollars).. the uv lamp is the kicker, it was around 50 dollars... but like I said Sally's has mini lamps which I think would be ideal anyway because then you don't have your whole hand under the uv lamp.
@bebepinkdoll You're very welcome!! You have to use a "uv polish" so either the Gelish or Shellac or another brand that is uv activated. As far as ingredients go I don't know if it is the same- but the concept and end result is the same yes!
@localnatiive Don't feel dumb at all, I just made the video assuming everyone knew what it was (which I shouldn't have)- yes they call it the no chip or the 10 day manicure.
@Ekta414 At first yes it does add up buying all the supplies, but if you are a person who has to paint your nails every 2 days (and you don't like doing it) it is definitely worth the investment!
@LolaMarie7 Thats me! Yea, i ordered a UV light earlier this AM before you posted this vid...but then i was looking at all the supplies and now im debating...
i love your nails shape:) feminine, mine are kinda dadish like:)
for me your videos are always the ones i see after my twins are in bed. my end of the day treat kind of:) please keep doing them, theyre what i look forward to every single day, i even watch your old ones when theres no new video! Thank you for the video by the way:)
@freshdidi81 Dadish, haha mine are usually dadish.. even though I would like to see a confirmation image on what dadish is! Haha!! Using the shellac helps me not peel them off or bite them... which helps make them stronger which in essence makes them look better! Aw, thank you so much that is such a compliment!! :) That definitely made my night! xo
Why are you using the Gellish instead of the Shellac polishes? Do you like them better or do they cost less, or maybe they have better colors? I was wondering cause I use the Shellac but have not tried this line yet. Love all your videos.
@SugarAddictHCG I have Shellac polishes too, I use both. Gelish are more easily accessible and I had a lot of curiosity on them after my last video.. so that's why I featured Gelish. Thank you!
@TheLemonLily It looks a bit thicker than normal polish (in person) and it stays shiny unlike regular nailpolish... but yes it looks like normal polish for the most part without closer inspection
do you think it is worth the invest, it seems expensive compared to the average nail polish?

It looks doable!
My only concern would be the damage to nail bed ...
Will do some more research, I guess.
