Nobody has or will ever have a voice quite like hers. It's not too pretty but it's not a bad sound in all. It's interesting with that peculiar Germanic texture to it. Unique. Her lyrics are simple yet elequent as well. This world doesn't produce Nico's anymore. I rather like her.
To me, this song perfectly captures the beauty and sadness of losing ones innocence. In Nico's voice I hear fear, hope, nostalgia ... wonderful cover.
@PHAEDRIDER i like how you talk about the Special Olympics while you don't seem to have a clue about how to properly punctuate your ignorant comment. cheers!

@LolasTubular Do you have "Listening to screeching nails on a chalkboard" downloaded on your iPod. Just goes to show you have absolutley no idea or taste in music. You probably also love to swallow crushed glass. Do you have a pulse??? I wonder...
@vferratusco Oh please. I'd rather listen to Nico than Jackson Browne any day of the week. In fact, I'd rather listen to screeching nails on a chalkboard, than that punk Jackson.
@LolasTubular Well, if you like this version than I feel compelled to let you in on a secret. The guitar on this track is played by Jackson Browne. Yes, she asked him to play electric guitar on the recording. I guess she enjoyed a punk like Jackson as much as the next person.
I'm an avid Jackson Browne fan, and I actually like Nico's cover of the song more than the original. If you really think this is a "massacre," you have a very sad view of music. Both versions are great.
this song fills me with so many different feelings... nico's voice wasn't the best but her voice is so fragile and uncertain in this song, i don't think i'll ever tire of this song
I almost hate to say many words about this song because it is such a perfect poem in itself. But I will say, it hits me in the heart every time I hear it. Amazing lyrics and music by Jackson Browne and so perfectly suited to Nico that the song seems the natural embodiment of her voice. The motif of the clock chiming, counting time "in quarter tones to ten" etc...just an amazing piece of music/poetry.
I think that IS actually a very young Jackson Browne playing that guitar part, correct? His tune anyway. He tells a pretty funny story about this recording session and I think he is saying he was the guitar player. Sounds like him.
@quad1000 Yes. He tells the story on his Solo Acoustic album; he is playing the finger-picking guitar accompaniment.
At the risk of alienating all the world, I think Nico verges on sounding like a parody of herself, like Marlene Dietrich singing Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy.
You all make yourselves look like idiots by cursing and fighting online with one another. I wonder would you all be so bold is this were real life? @livelife409 you gotta understand that its not always about the singing. its about the feeling you get with the music and how the person sings with it. artists like this one may not have the best voice but its almost as if you can hear their hearts through their voice. Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Isaac Brock(Modest Mouse), Anthony Kiedis(Red Hot Chili Peppers), and other famous artists have "not so perfect" singing voices but you can never imagine anyone singing the kind of music they make.
@yanin021182 OH WTF>..shut the fuck up....and yes im telling you this a yr later.>SHUT THE FUCK UP...I wrote something that wasnt even that bad..you have people on here cursing because she is so bad..ha now i am..SHE IS an IDOL..who the fuck has heard of NICO I dont get it...at all...get the fuck outta here.
