A degree gives you a certain credibility when launching your career, but it's not necessary. It completely depends on what you want to do and what your talents are. There are plenty of self-taught professionals out there, but I think they have to work a little harder in the beginning to show they are credible. If you have a degree, then everyone knows you have education and training, but there is no educational substitute for "real world" experience. So, it all depends!
Hi, I just checked, so the audio should definitely be there - sorry you were having trouble. Please also check out the other recent videos on my channel for more tips and advice on launching your label.
Here is the non commercial way to start yourself a high-end label:
It's recommended you at least have Minor Degree in Fashion Design (diploma or A-level) and that you get a Post graduate degree in it to (BA Hons extended diploma)
Then you need to register your business, this allows you to trademark your work.
Create sketches, turn these sketches into patterns, pay seamstresses or sew yourself your dresses (regular process) then present to botiques and the likes (better degree = more attention)
Thanks for the feedback and additional information. What you have outlined above is very true. What I focus on is the last line you entered, "present to boutiques and the likes" which is often where new brands and designers get stuck. If you are showing a "high-end label," then it's incredibly important to show it in a certain way that appeals to buyers. There's no cookie-cutter way to do this, so I offer targeted consultations based on each brand's needs.
@AltitudePromotions This is very true, and sounds like a very solid way to get into the biz. Exposure is everything. If you are were exposed, someone will notice you. Providing your fashion is marketable, of course.
I did go to FIDM in San Francisco and graduated with a Professional Designation in Merchandise Marketing. I did this after earning my Bachelors degree in Public Relations/Journalism.
I am from china,is a seller. Wholesalers, I this clothes 7 to 15 euro bargains。If interested in contact with me。Think you!!!! SMN:shoesseller@hotmail.com
Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry you are discouraged. It's important to know how saturated and competitive the market is in order to be successful when launching your line. If someone is going to tell you it's easy and you'll make great money right away then they aren't being realistic. Great brands are built by adjusting and refining season after season. I wish you the best of luck in launching your line.

Thanks for your comment. There are a lot of sites out there that offer good, generic tips for launching a line. But there is no top ten list that applies to EVERY line. Since I'm sure your new collection has special attributes, you should look for advice targeted specifically to your collection. That's what we do. We work individually and specifically with new brands like yourself to offer very tailored industry advice that will help make you successful.
