Republicanism is not democracy, look at how it has worked for the US direct democracy is 'true' democracy. Well it looks like my first try did not post. I believe a Republic is better than pure democracy for the very reason i first stated. Pakistan was a puppet of the US in the cold war, and Pakistan was created as a country in the first place by colonial powers. The people had no say at all. Symbolically or spiritually yes, though it has little meaning outside of the religious realm. Your rights to live among others in peace as a minority in a Muslim majority land would be respected and serves no basis of discrimination except from religious customs - where all religions look down upon other ones because they're "incorrect".
