@behavis people don't believe me when I say he is the best live artist. I have seen him several times and everytime the peformance blows me away. Groningen 1996 was for me personally the best one though. Btw check out on youtube Mark Knopfler-Hill Farmer's Blues-2010 Special Edition!
yes I agree, In Christchurch NZ I could not go to the concert, flaming music moves me too much
This is a composer more prolific and talented than Mr Mozart, Mr Beethoven and God dammit the Beatles sound like kids in a playpen by comparison
Over the years I have noticed huge changes to MK, we all grow, his voice now, is a lot more refined:)) His music plays a huge part in my life, has enriched it in fact
1. It's unlikely Mark Knopfler's music is not inspired/affected in some way, shape or form by Mozart, Beethoven, or The Beatles.
2. I stand by my conviction that, lyrically and musically, this may be the greatest song of the modern/contemporary era. (In light of which, I swear if someone responds with John Cage, my foot shall @&!! &*% #* for 4 minutes and 33 seconds)
i had to hold back tears when he started the outro solo on this song when i saw him play in Syracuse, New York. seeing him live I was ready to die. kids my generation die when they see lady gaga or justin bieber. ive never heard a musician i admired more then this guy. what a gentleman and genius.
@theSicilianToe Mark Knopfler is great! In respect to the gaga/bieber issue, just turn your TV and your radio off.. There are tons of incredible musicians nowadays! Just take your time to find them on the internet! Tons of radios on itunes and tons of videos on youtube... cheers
I've always wondered, what is it in people's minds when they created their works ?.... How is it that so fingers next thought? What is the richness of colors, smells, sounds, thoughts, flashes of the soul .... surreal images in my head, crying out for someone, a man closer and better world ...? How is it basically the same and timeless, best illustrated by the fact that the same questions I asked myself listening to Liszt, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky ....
@theSicilianToe If you are referring to the KTGC Tour show at the Landmark in 2008..I was there too..along with my then 17-year-old son. I turned to him when Mark opened "Telegraph Road"..and told him he was in for a real treat..he wasn't disappointed! Very few musicians can evoke such emotion from their instrument..and even fewer can write as well as Mark does..no wonder that he still sells out venues around the globe.
@dyrstraights That was the concert I was at :D I live over in Rochester. Drove their for the day. Lucky kid youve got! I wish my dad had taken me to an MK concert! (At least I discovered MK through him when I was a kid though!) He would have had NO problem dragging me to a show if Jimmy Page was playing at it though! Hehe. That argument will never end between us. Did you convince your son who the real guitar king is that day at MK's show?
@theSicilianToe Didn't need to convince him...by the end of the show..he knew! Mark also played killer covers of "Hillfarmer's Blues", "Marbletown" and of course..."Speedway at Nazareth" that night (like I need to tell you that!)...and that was more than enough! MK is by far the most underated musician ever
Excellent ..Lovely song...
