Don't forget there is a whole list of chronic illnesses that insurance companies are allowed to discriminate against. I would probably go ahead and pay for a private policy, even though it would strain our budget, but I can't get one. No one will sell me a policy because I have one of those chronic illnesses. It should be illegal for them to do that.
