It's not that much of a stretch to understand why Willy and everyone else would assume Spriggs is a guy. For one thing, it's the age-old Halo machinima joke... no one ever takes off their helmets or armor, hence the one joke where Meme asks "How blond do I look?" and Triple M replies "I don't know, you never take off the helmet!".

And Spriggs is such a loner, hardly ever says anything, and primarily interacts with Willy, who is blinded and stupid over his hatred for Spriggs.
