I agree with some previous comments; I can totally appreciate the 70s/80s titles for 'Grange Hill' with the flying sausage, etc., but as I was a youngster in the early 90s, THIS is the one that makes me come over all misty-eyed and pine for my youth... Happy days!
i was in grange hill from 1981-1983 as an estra it was great fun and i ngot paid £25 per day normaly 27 days per series filming todd carthy was a great kid back then
i used to get royalties everytime the theme intro was shown on tv as i devised the bit of the cartoon where the sausage on a fork was thrown at a black girl during lunch. i got £1.68p after taxes per play. usually about £70-£80 a week. the new intro (1991 onwards) didnt use it as they thought it was racist. if i was racist how come i have a couple of black friends ?
I used to watch this (until it got shit, probably when Mr Bronson left I would think), but fucking hell, its a bit bleak isn't it - particularly the older ones repeated on Sundays.
This Song sounds like it was loosely based on Scritti Politti's "Lover To Fall" from Cupid & Psyche '85... even got some of the same bell sounds and 'horn' arrangements...
@bardin84 i dont no about you but i remeber one where the opening credits where differnet and they had a cometition to guess what someone was writing on there hand during the open intro, But the music brings back memories my god!
@19crawford89 ....... me too as soon as i started to listen to it i relised how old i am! ( 26 )..... doesnt seem long ago when this was on! i miss the old grange hills, when life was more simple!
Ahh the happier days of the 90's, what a shit decade the 00's were THANK GOD it's over. I hated the clothes of the 00's and the catch frazes. Who wants to wear trousers wich are ripped and tatters and stand with your hip pocking in the air with you leg at a ****ing stupid angle; stupid 00's BS. the 00's was an absolutely horible decade, the 90's were much more fun.
@dim432 wasn't it 2007 it lasted too ? (although much shortened?) I think reverted back to the original first theme for the last series in 2008 (I might be wrong!)
This tune was ok, but, I was braught up on the old one during the 80's....I loved it!!! I may of still been quite young but, when the old tune came on I knew I was home...lol.:0). I'm 29 now and still love hearing the tune...brings back memories. I remember Tucker in the 80's and Judy Jefferies in the 90's...Laura Saddler RIP. xx
@MegaWill1981 I'm the same age as you but was never allowed to watch Grange Hill in the 80's so it's this one that I remember most lol. I do remember the old tune being on..just not the content of the show. :-D
Reminds me of the times at school when i used to be quitely taking a piss and minding my own buisness, then 5 of the school bullies would come in with a student and flush his head down the toilet.
Then, threaten me with Stanleys not to quote "rag" on them. Good ol days
I remember that show which i was aired 20 years ago . Heard the name, but I have no idea what was about and also I wasn't old enough to understand because it contains adolescent themes.
I remember thinking at the time. What is this shite? I was never a huge fan but this theme and titles sucked. Too slick and modern I thought. But I guess its not so bad.
Ah the nostalgia! Reminds me of afternoons after school at my childminder's house. With homework out of the way my 2 sisters and I would sit down with our childminder and her 4 sons and watch Children's Television, and besides other programmes, Grange Hill was one of the things they showed. Oh man, do I feel old now, LOL!
Allthough this was technically "my Grange Hill" as I was old enough to understand it and at school on the 90s, I still preferred the old theme tune over this one. However, looking back, this tune has its merrits to and has a place in history, beside its iconic predecessor.
@givmespace you can be a kid in mind :-). Join a hippy commune then you won't have to worry about earning money for food - just grow it! :-) Might have to be a vegan though but at least you'll be avoiding unnecessary cruelty to animals
@MattemoTV this title sequence was from 1990 but they used the same theme (with obviously new titles) in various lengths (i.e getting shorter as time went on lol) pretty much until the show was cancelled in 2008. I think it was altered for the last series, I'm not 100% sure though.
@pluto1111777 when I first saw that, I thought you were on about the titles themselves, but you meant the theme itself...
However, I'm sure I saw the old-style titles with the old theme in about 1997 (I was only born in 1990!) and liking those titles, so I guess in my mind this is the 1998-2008 theme, and that the 1978 theme lasted until 1997, not 1989... Guess I was wrong...
Saying that, why do I remember the original comic-stryle titles and theme when they went before I was born?
@MattemoTV I have to admit I did wonder 2 because these titles are the only ones I ever remembered. It's always possible they kept very similar titles for several years (into the 90's) before changing. It's also possible they reran them at a later date. The reason you remember the original comic book style credits are the same reason I do - they reran these early episodes in the mid (- late?) 90's, at weekends if I remember rightly, while the then current episodes went out during the week :)
@pluto1111777 I remember the old eps being on a Thursday at 5:00 in about 1997... I also remember the current eps being repeated on Sunday mornings... So the opposite to what you said!
@MattemoTV Really? I'm almost positive that the early series were re ran on a weekend and the regular current episode at teatime during the week. I'd never have seen the reruns if theyd have been on at teatime weekdays as I was watching Home and Away and Neighbours lol I cant imagine theyd show the current ep's at the weekend, I didn't watch GH alot (I think I just caught bits now and then) but again it must have been teatimes as I wouldn't have tuned in on Sunday mornings for the current ep's.
@pluto1111777 I remember this, classic 70s and 80s Grange Hill used to be on a Sunday, possibly mid morning and usually one of the last shows CBBC showed. I remember it because it used to be on before the Doctor Who repeats were on again. Regular Grange Hill, i.e this intro and episode, used to be on after newsround on like a Thursday or whatever
@JWhitelaw99 ......Taken from wikipedia but that's definatly how I remember it too!
"Beginning on 4 April 1993, to celebrate Grange Hill's 15th anniversary, the first fifteen series of Grange Hill were repeated during CBBC's Sunday, and later Saturday morning slots on BBC1 and BBC2. The repeats ended with Series 16 in 1999."
I was born in 1981 and my brother 1985 and we both remember watching the old 70's'/80's ones on a weekend and watching the current ones during the week!
@pluto1111777 Absolutely correct. Us younger generation remember the original comic book style opening and theme through replays at weekends in the mid/late 90's. It was simply called "Vintage Grange Hill". The theme is this video is the theme of our era of Grange Hill. I stopped watching this amazng show when they burned down the original school and axed virtually all of that cast. I lasted about one episode of the new Grange Hill filmed in Liverpool or something? RIP Grange Hill
I swear this used to be on a Friday following Newsround. I would come home after school, have chips for me tea (it was Friday after all) and watch this with my sister.
my big sister said when i asked what school was like she said its just like grange hill, this one not the old one. we use to stay at my nanas & grandads on a friday and when we use to get there she forced us to watch it and bika grove.
the true Grange hill theme was the origanol from 1978-87 although slightly jzzier arangment used betweeen 1988 & 1989 was rather good but as used from 1990 onwards I felf it wasn't quite the same, I was a mift why they moved the location of grange Hill from london to liverpool, now I like the city of Liverpool but wat was wrong with london location
I wanted to hear this tune again after so long... I heard it for the first time when I was 5, and was instantly drawn in by it, but times changed. Now that i've heard it again... well, it's a good thing anyways.
I've been drinking and listening to youtube on my own for 43 hrs, I know this makes me a terrible freak but I do love this old 90's tune!! Plus I'm going through a divorce so I have a small excuse haha
born in 1990 remember this theme though but today is boring for kids i mean no citv anymore true there more channels but still the best shows are the old ones
Being born in 1990 as well I agree with you and sympathise with the kids of today. They do not know what they missed!
The golden age of kids TV was CITV in the 1990s, when it was that black square logo and it just had one presenter, and you only heard him. (BTW, Fun House is being repeated on Challenge TV, saturday and sunday mornings)
On the other hand, I showed an episode of Fun house to my 9 year-old twin brother and sister - they showed no interest in it at all! Times change!!!
the era with Ziggy was the best of Grange Hill the show was recently cancelled which is the final death toll for British Kids tv i cant remember a originally produced show since tracy beaker.
It makes me feel old whern I see this was the tune introduced in 1990. To me, that is like yesterday and I remember not liking the change of them tune at the time.
Oh my god, this was the ebst grange hill theme tune. Im 23 now, god. This was proper tv..goes back to my old school days. Used to watch this b4 my tea. Excellent..thanks for putting this on here dearladies!!
I was singing along to this melody like I watched it yesterday lol! This takes me way back boy. The 888 thing....only true old skool peeps would remember that
can i say grange hill was canceld for stupid reason a north london comprefensive knife crime happens in the south london and they made it in a unamed town since 2002 so they didnt have to use knife crime
I used to work on Grange Hill as a script writer but I got the sack for making a script too real and too unbelivable.
I suggested an abortion scene in every episode and another episode where Chechen terrorists take the school hostage and russian soldiers storm the place and a blood bath ensues! I was so ahead of my time.
I still write a lot of fan scripts and storys. Today I wrote one in which Rolan and Zammo organise an illegal charity cock fight with the help of Mr Griffiths.
Does anyone know if anyone's uploaded the later intro from the late 90s? That was more my era of the Hill. Such a pity it's gone now. Music still gives me goosebumps when I hear it.
So my era, always used 2 watch when i came back from school...new series is shite now.I love this intro aswell tho....well done mate for putting this on here!!
Now THIS was my era! If I dont remember any of the characters of this bit then its refreshing being reminded of this! I was thinking to myself only the other week, this tune was going round in my head..And now I know! Ha, everyone playing the original theme - All the kids of today are supposed to connect with that are they?!?! I connect with THIS.
a school in basingstoke est 1975 has same uniform befoew them similar logo always had and next to sport com called down grange lol no it based on every school maily london skls
i cant belive the bbc is canceling grange hill and byker grove its crazy young people need more stuff like grange hill and byker grove as there just aint enough its all stupid fantase stuff for younger viewers these days
I did prefer the 1994 intro over this one, but in no way did GH decline in the 90s. The decline started IMO when production moved from in-house BBC to indepentely produced by Phil Redmond's Mersey TV, now known as Lime Pictures.
Ahhh sorry If I offended you I do apologise. A More Appropriate word maybe that the person who goes around complaining about GH Videos is more of a control freak??
I agree with some previous comments; I can totally appreciate the 70s/80s titles for 'Grange Hill' with the flying sausage, etc., but as I was a youngster in the early 90s, THIS is the one that makes me come over all misty-eyed and pine for my youth... Happy days!

No1Tesco 2 years ago 4
Blimey.
It makes me feel old whern I see this was the tune introduced in 1990. To me, that is like yesterday and I remember not liking the change of them tune at the time.
It's hard to believe it's 19 years ago now!
Oh. to be young again!
bmused55 3 years ago 14
Agreed. I can't believe this was nearly 20 years ago. My gosh, I'm going to be 29 tomorrow but yet this still feels like yesterday..
I never really believed it when people used to say time flyes by so quick but my gosh it really does!!

what was the name of the janitor?
WlNDAGO 3 years ago
janitor? Caretaker you idiot! there were loads of em' but Mr Griffiths was the best propper miserable.
xxxKINGFROGxxx 3 years ago
Griffiths was miserable when he started in 1986, but he got softer later on. He was unceremoniously chopped from the cast list in 1992

StBoffers 3 years ago 2
can i say grange hill was canceld for stupid reason a north london comprefensive knife crime happens in the south london and they made it in a unamed town since 2002 so they didnt have to use knife crime
hazbrowne 3 years ago
I always preferred the original tune to this one. Although I'm not saying its bad.
bmused55 3 years ago
where can you get this theme song because all i can find is the shitting old one
Richdrum 3 years ago
I used to work on Grange Hill as a script writer but I got the sack for making a script too real and too unbelivable.
I suggested an abortion scene in every episode and another episode where Chechen terrorists take the school hostage and russian soldiers storm the place and a blood bath ensues! I was so ahead of my time.
miraoister 3 years ago
no wnder why that dont happend
hazbrowne 3 years ago
Gee, I wonder why you got sacked.
TruthBeyond 3 years ago
I still write a lot of fan scripts and storys. Today I wrote one in which Rolan and Zammo organise an illegal charity cock fight with the help of Mr Griffiths.

Does anyone know if anyone's uploaded the later intro from the late 90s? That was more my era of the Hill. Such a pity it's gone now. Music still gives me goosebumps when I hear it.

same here when i hear it...
karaokechampion 3 years ago 2
So my era, always used 2 watch when i came back from school...new series is shite now.I love this intro aswell tho....well done mate for putting this on here!!
karaokechampion 3 years ago
Now THIS was my era! If I dont remember any of the characters of this bit then its refreshing being reminded of this! I was thinking to myself only the other week, this tune was going round in my head..And now I know! Ha, everyone playing the original theme - All the kids of today are supposed to connect with that are they?!?! I connect with THIS.

hazbrowne 3 years ago
Does it still even say 888 b4 programs for subtitles now??
chrislyon06 3 years ago 2
Nope, since thats analogue teletext. Since it's going Digital all they need to show is 'Subtitles'
andremp03 3 years ago
I think there was another eason at the time. BBC subtitles had just changed teletext page from 170 to 888, as ITV and C4 always had theirs on 888

This show actually based on my old school Grange Park in st helens

how many series of grange hill can you buy on dvd?
luke1234589 3 years ago
I did prefer the 1994 intro over this one, but in no way did GH decline in the 90s. The decline started IMO when production moved from in-house BBC to indepentely produced by Phil Redmond's Mersey TV, now known as Lime Pictures.
phlatball96 3 years ago 2
Aww I was only 2 years old when this version was on.
mhawkins1988 3 years ago 2
Stangely enough I quite like it, however I do think it's good they brought back the original theme tune for the last ever series.
andiee2990 3 years ago
the new theme tune: shit, basically.
leonardsleopard 3 years ago
This is my favourite intro for GH but people always forget it.
Muffinthraka 3 years ago 2
why are GH Online moaning about people stealing their clips, they dont even own the copywrite to them, the BBC does!!
jboi2002 3 years ago 3
HAH! U tell them str8! they even accused me of stealing a clip nd demanded me 2 take it down nd make threats bout reportin it! There GAY!!!

I don't think Gay is the word. I'm Gay but i don't call idiots straight do i?
