I´m anxious. People like Kevin build the atomic bomb - and now the matrix. They don´t learn form Chernobyl, they don´t learn from Goethes Faust, they don´t learn from Hollywood. Every idea which is thought, will be build. Listen: The matrix will be the absolute media - the absolute slavery. In danger to repeat myself: I´m anxious. Please study Régis Debray - Mediology - and you will see the strukture of force and power of capitalism. Dear mankind.

critics of web 3.0 don't realize that they are now users of web 2.0... which of course they hated via web 1.0 ... I guess they hated web 1.0 via actual human to human interactions... and we all know how we all hate doing That!!!
I noticed that Kevin Kelly mentioned five traits that are not easily copied. He called them "generatives." He said that there were eight of them, but he only mentioned five leaving some to wonder what the other three are. Anyway, here they are:

he might be right in thinking that the machine is a developmental inevitability. the problem is that to develop it will need exponentially more energy and resources, which are become increasingly more scarce. that is where singularitarians and other techno-explosion theorists fall flat on there face.
Where better to put our souls than cyberspace? In a way it is very much like the heaven that our distant ancestors imagined; Where all knowledge resides, where we are pure spirits. The internet is your opportunity to achieve a genuine sort of immortality. The more honestly and extensively you bare your mind here the more of you there is to reassemble your consciousness in cyberspace. I already feel like a node in human space. A universal soul identifier may be all it takes to make it a reality.
Is that it? Wow! YOU are irritated by the woman who is sitting next to him? Should we explore your reasons for this? They are clearly of great importance. There must have been something she was not or something that she was failing to do that was of immense importance to you. I cannot fathom how you managed to endure 40 minutes of debate about such vital issues. Or perhaps you are being ironic and are much cleverer than would appear at first glance. That's it! You've found me out! Damn!
i remember the tv series The 21st Century (back in the 60s); it was mostly about robots and television and stuff like that; the was some, but not much about computers;
This model is based on the assumption that people are good. I do not like the idea of this One computer controlling my environment. Especially when people are not good.
@aprilsierra good people have been majority so far, that is why we still live in a relatively organized order. Racism is useless , Hitler was defeated , even dick cheney was defeated by the Obama election. So you should not be scared of the majority today. Or you shoud not be scared of the net.
How is this "predicted upon a petro-collapse"? The internet exists, already. If you take a look at the google cloud, torrents, photosynth, processing clusters and many other newer internet dependent technologies you'll realize that at least the essentials of this idea are common sense.
Furthermore, the economic collapse is actually accelerating a commercial shift to the web. Why? Because it's simply far more cost effective for the consumer and supplier. Also, augmented reality presents an opportunity to have our personal avatar simulate the physicalities of clothes shopping.
what about the possiable abuse of having centeralised information by large organisations e.g. governments, companies. Centeralised infromation has been abused before e.g. Richard nixion used the CIA to harass\blackmail people that did not want to fight in vitnam.
Also if everyone is transparent how can we have security e.g. terrorists, thieves. because making every in world transprant is not enforceable.
It's only a problem when only certain people are transparent and/or certain people have access to the information. Being as these situations allow for an unbalanced allotment of information. However, when everyone is transparent the information will be much less valuable and much further from the seemingly intrusive nature. The government already knows your full name, social security number, spouse, kids, address, bank accounts, etc. The rest is all fluff, e.g. your friends, hobbies, pets.
This won't happen if we don't work out how to avoid environmental catastrophe. We simply don't have the resources to get there if they are eaten up by insatiable economic growth. This particular planet may not be quite big enough to support this natural progression to the technological future. While the net may be this indestructible machine, the massive real-world infrastructures - shipping, mining, manufacture, agriculture, etc. - are far more vulnerable to systemic failure.
Cloudbook.. a PC that only functions as a window to the internet.. It's always online, and everything you save, "down"-load or create will be on the internett!! :D Normal PC's have Bytes and etc. for storing purposes.. That would no longer be necessary, everything would just be stored on the net.. :D:D:D:D
I actually just saw it on the news on TV.. The "Net 3"..
In this new reality the nature of crime will be different. What is theft if all property is digitalised? What would be the point in taking drugs if you can digitally distort reality through the web? What about a digitised child used for sex acts? How do you imprison someone if they exist more in bytes than in flesh?
Or perhaps the most important question who polices one web? The Americans, the UN, the Chinese, Google?
True.. With the new digitalized world it would be impossible for one person, country or a group to control it.. Since the net is accessable to all, and also modifiable to all.. Everyone would "control" it..
If another 6 billion copies of human brain made and let them think freely one would expect twice number of problems with twice the complexity and twice the variety with twice the caused by 6 billion brians i not many more than that.
this is fascinating! Kevin Kelly has some really interesting and highly plausible points. It looks like it's going to be a scary and unpredictable future.
The humans being the sensors for the internet machine really made me think of the matrix - scary stuff!
I thought the idea of there being more people today preforming the trades of yesteryear simply because there are so many people on earth now funny and a bit scary. But low and behold last weekend in central California I came across 2 separate blacksmiths with amazing iron sculptures and tools. I should also say happy 5000th day birthday internet!
The machine will become conscious at some point and become our 1st real man made god, i hope a benevolent one.
