ive had my 605sri for 15 yrs only now its giving me proplems on m.o.ts ive certainly got my moneys worth, its the best car ive ever had, the boot is massive , i now let the missus drive while i chill in the back with extra leg room.
God I remeber that tv commercial - that's brought back memories lol. I want a 605 now. Still a much better car than the 607 which replaced it, and has been a catostrophic failure for Peugeot really.
Nice of you for uploading this video. And it's true that new peugeot's don't feel the same, but that's the same thing whit all new other cars brands to.
These cars are renowned for electrical problems, loose connections and unprotected connectors that corrode away, ive had to replace alot of parts that would wear out an any car so not been too bad so far. Brake discs are very expensive and if the svti's or srti's turbo dies you will be extremely lucky to find another, a new one in the uk costs £1200.
It is an excellent car to own, prices are cheap cos of cost to replace parts. You wont find a good one for peanuts anywhere in the world. Another matter to consider is peugeot sold so little of these cars that a manual was never created for it because there was no market to sell them, altho you cant get engine information from a citroen xm manual and the 405 manual covers almost everything else in a similar manner.
It boils down to one thing 'cost'. Parts are so expensive and problems are so common on all of them unless you look after them properly. They were built to compete with bmw and mercedes at the time offering much higher specs like for like but because of the investment cost at 600 million pounds the cars price killed it, specially as bmw and mercedes cars were cheaper. My svti was £27,995 an insane price for 1993.
I agree parts are very very expensive i have mine from 1998(a bit neglected when i bought)and so far the only things i had to change were one CV joint, one rear shock absorber and cleaning a few electrical contacts (power mirror switches, power windows switches etc).I solved myself all of them but because of the expensive new parts i had to use used parts. The engine is superb as the whole car is.You are right the key is looking after properly.
Never been a huge Peugeot fan but I have always liked the look of the 605. Still looks very fresh today with that PininFarina styling.
