Many years ago, marriage was arranged by the parents as a wife or as a concubine. In those days, women did what the parents wanted. There was no job opportunities for women in those days.

Many people would hope their old man is rich enough to give them a head start in life, even their mothers are not the first one or legally married. Modern day "married" couple don't registered legally, and don't want to have children because of what? Because of Money Not Enough!
