The whole point is yes its a funny prank and although Im sure the minimum wage worker who is over worked and underpaid (and usually talked down to most of the day) is thrilled with getting a soda dumped on them mid shift.
The problem is idiots take it way too far. Some people order hot coffee or hot chocolate thinking its funny to scald someone with it.
First, I find it disturbing that a middle age guy wants 16yr old kids should have to identify themselves publicly on the internet... Yeah it's wrong, they got in trouble, lets be serious its not like they violently assaulted someone though.
they also had to give out 100 hours of commutity service, pay tacobell for the mess. include those facts cause ur making them sound more like attackers
Those idiot kids got off easy. And for some of you making comments about the fast food worker, STFU! I bet anything you're prepubesent 16 year olds with rich parents that kiss your ass and you've never had to work a damn day in your life and don't have to worry about your education.
i did about 10 of these. one drink had pee in it and i ran in the place and threw it. i also got a harrassment charge with 24 hours community service, 1 year probation and an apology letter. check out my videos
I agree with the "You Tube becoming a part of the legal system part". More and more
"witness to the crime" style videos are popping up on the Tube daily. Either people are getting more brash and arrogant or just much stupider (is that a word?). Either way it is a sign of the times. The next big thing will be slander lawsuits because there are alot of videos online (and not just on YT) of people berating celebs and others. Just a matter of time and it will only take one.
Was anybody hurt? no -- I think the woman who was at the receiving end of that soda would disagree on several levels. I think there are some of us who feel that this total disregard for another human being may be a symptom of some of the greater issues in the world. Maybe. But point taken, more important things to discuss.
i agree with you. what if these otherr dipshits were workin at the grcery store or the mall and 2 jackasses ran up and threw a soda in their face, laughing and videotaping the whole time, and then everyone says, "oh but its funny, he wasnt hurt". yea, real funny.
that's what the guys thought who were going around shooting people with paintball guns. "relatively harmless". I have a friend who is blind in one eye now. He was discharged from the Military because of it. "Relatively harmless" sure. Now you're serving customers in a ruined uniform or perhaps you are sent home losing that income. Or perhaps they got soda on the $1600 headset or the $2500 register. Relatively harmless indeed.
AND THIS is what a LOT of the youth are coming to these days. ALTHOUGH, I must say it's not much different than in my day, just more prevelant than it was in my day. And YouTube? Policing it's own site? HA!!! IF THAT isn't the biggest crock of crap I don't know what is and yes, laughable at best. Interesting thoughts. PROBABLY SHOULD have made the kids show their faces. Humiliation is not humiliation if no-one knows who the heck they are. Hope they DID learn a lesson.
ehhrr this is some feedback they have received>>>
- wgiordano | June 13, 2008
Ummm... can you put the original video back up. Saw it on TV. Laughed when it ricocheted off her head.
- Talljim01 | June 12, 2008
What you did was just plain mean. Your sentence should have been for the victim to hit you in the face with ice cold chocolate malt with maple syrup in it.
I think the punishment fits the crime... I think I totally agree with you about the fact that perhaps comments should have been allowed.
I don't think it's necessary for them to show their faces though... not to YouTube, maybe return to apologise to the person who got soaked... just my thought
Huh. I've never heard of that prank. That's really rotten. I'm on the fence about them not showing their faces. I suppose it would really drive the shame home if they had to, but if their peers saw it then it could cause a lot of bullying.
At least it was soda - consider the consequences if they had not been taken down and shown the error of their ways. In my time, I have had to deal with pranksters who had urinated into a vaccuum flask of
coffee and watched the victim sipping same.
Urine today - something more lethal tomorrow.
I hope the two guys are truly repentant of their idiotic prank.
i mostly agree about the feedback, except knowing youtube there would be a lot of feedback like "way to go" and "that's funny dude" which would only encourage the kids
showing face..i don't suppose so...if they got stalked it would be another issue. but tons of people show their face on youtube everyday, many under 18. i think they should of been banned maybe from having a youtube site after the apology, and if caught with one they'd get a legal penalty.
I would have liked to seen a video of their confrontation with their "victim" and THAT get posted. They could have shot behind them so we wouldn't see their faces, but we would have seen the server lay into them but good! Then they would have to post THAT! And open it up to comments!
They should have had their faces shown. Some of these stupid shows like 'Jackass' promote this type of crap. Punishment should have required some jail time on top of it!
Since they don't show their faces and don't even have to read negative comments the punishment really was no punishment at all. While I don't think their *crime* warrented the charges they got, it would seem that those turned out to be pretty toothless charges that weren't as bad as they sounded. I'll go old school on it. At least turn on the comments, have YouTube feature it, and then make the boys copy by hand each comment 100 times. That should keep them out of trouble for a few days, LOL.
I'm right there with you re: the old school-style punishments!! :)
I think they should have to do community service hours @ each of the places they did that to...
To document it was completed, they'd have to have their community service work recorded on video... Then some clips of those most humiliating moments should be posted along w/ their apology video! hahaha
I wasn't aware of this until watching your video, Tim. The "punishment" seems too benign--glib, even. They don't even have to show their faces. It doesn't seem to go far enough in the way of true contrition. But, that's just my opinion. Hugs,~Moonchime
Now thats a vid I would love to comment on mate..lol..but 3 cheers to the judge for having the foresight to make this part of there punishment..I agree however that there should have been more stipulations set on the vid itself...cheerz Bud..
faces should have been shown and comments allowed too. although i agree with many some of the replies saying some people would have cheered for them for doing it but i'd like to think most of the comments would have been scolding their actions.
Good for Jessica Ceponis for tracking them down! That's great. But, yeah, the judge should have made them leave comments/ratings on. And, yeah, I think the 16 year-old should show his face.
I think they should have had to show their faces. Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time. I think they got off lightly.
And they should have been forced to allow comments and ratings. Course it will prolly become a viral vid and get like a billion views and get featured on YT. Maybe they'll become partners. Wouldn't surprise me.
Great vid. Cheers!
I'd watch the vid but I don't want to help it get views. They might like that.
Legally, minors can't be identified. I'm sure that's why there were no faces.
As for comments, given kids today, I bet 90 percent would have been supportive of their actions and sympathizing with them for the fact they got caught -- but urging them to keep at it.
I think that this is a great idea. People who make videos of inappropriate behaviour having to publically apologise on the very media platform they use. It's a bit like the old 'stock' with the crowd throwing rotten veg, well it would be if the comments weren't disabled!
So our punitive system has entered the video age. I'd bet that both of them showed their faces in their own vids prior to this one, so I think they should've had to face the camera head on. I also agree that they should've taken the consequences of ratings and comments. I did see some channel comments, including some who saw nothing wrong with their prank. Sigh...
Oh I know, I'm not foolish enough to think that they would not have received much praise for their l33t lulz skillz but I still think people should be held accountable for their actions.
Oh Yea~I also wanted to say: I just LOVE how current events have been putting the spotlight on YT's LACK of accountability/responsibility (when it comes to them not policing their site).
It's been a long time coming... I expected a lot more from youtube after that last incident... (w/ the 6 girls beating on that 1 girl~while 2 boys served as "look-outs").
OMG I would have done the same thing she did! Too bad they cheated their way out of the comments. Also, that's a good idea, what your parents did about the wallet (I'll keep that in mind 10 yrs down the road when I have misbehaving kids!) :)
I LOVE when judges get creative with their sentencing!!
MORE POWER to 'em!!
I really think that creative sentencing is far more affective than the traditional slap-on-the-wrist sentencing! (Maybe not THIS one, but others I've seen in the past seem to be!)
'mediation' is often construed as 'creative sentencing... traditonal sentencing s often criticised because it does not bring justice... but the offenders here are at an gere where they should know better... at 16 you should be responsible for your own actions and you should be subjected to the full consequences of your actions...
Often is the case that when the offenders are minors, the kids get off with HARDLY ANY consequences~not to mention, their records are pretty much sealed when they turn 18.
I think that the sentencing is better when it hits a juvenile right "where it hurts" (like when it impacts their EGO, for example).
I've heard of kids having to wear signs outside of businesses that they stole from... things like that would work better than a couple yrs of probation, for example...
having kids wear signs would lower their respect in the eyees of most reasonable people but it would increase their reputation among their peers. but i guess creative sentences are needed though...
The whole point is yes its a funny prank and although Im sure the minimum wage worker who is over worked and underpaid (and usually talked down to most of the day) is thrilled with getting a soda dumped on them mid shift.

Did they get 3 criminal charges? yes
Their punishment was sufficient.
Is this really worth discussing any further with so many real problems going on in America today?
