  • The bloke with the beard aint to good he kept getting hit

  • From PS3 and Xbox fanboys to naysayers its amazing that you can find examples of people saying "this sucks" just because they can. Does it enter your mind that it doesnt do any good? I do karate. I realize that it's based on a business model as well as teaching self defence and good moral values. I train for fitness, self confidence, and learning an art. I take from it what I need rather than walk away from it saying "it sucks"........ In the end it's your choice.

  • @S0MERSBY :that's the thing, Im not trying to burst your bubble in terms of training, fitness, self awareness and S*P*O*R*T Karate, but the issue with me is the number of people who train for yrs and believe that they possess an unbreakable martial art- i.e. FALSE HOPE/FALSE SECURITY/ - that is dangerous and does a disservice to the practioner . Besides, Ive personally experienced the corrupt arrongant attitudes of the "masters" in this particular style(JKA) and it is shameful......

  • there is no moves from tekki shodan

  • SERIOUSLY ??!!! No , REALLY!! SERIOUSLY?? !!! It fucking pisses me off to think that any of you who find this relevant martial arts training to real life situations, expect anyone else to believe also!! "oh look! a SWEEP!" -(AND THE CROWD GOES WILD B/C THEY DONT KNOW ANY BETTER!) Karate is bullshit (well, you're watered down, impotent, void of any use karate!) I guess you cann all still enjoy yer "tournaments" and keep patting yourselves on the back w/ this bullshit.

  • @hazor777

thank god some finally agrres with me

trouble is these guys wont listen, they just go on from week to week teach the same old bullshit,

look up WADOAJ and read his comments page, .he blocked me cos i tried to explain his karate was kids stuff...he wouldnt listen ....if you are 100% confident in your karate , you shoukd be able to discuss, rationally with anyone, not just block them cos you cant reply to their critisism..if you are big headed enough to post a vid.. then TALK

  • @hazor777 The problem is to many health and safety rules and regs. My dad was telling me about some of the brutal shit they did back in the day. He said that they learned shit that was useful in both competition and in a real life scenario.

  • @Plekky08 : the problem is, the true "ART" of Karate & it's translation is pretty much GONE. It's all sport now. For 50 yrs. the JKA has perpetuated a LIE to the west. I would argue most JKA top guns dont really know true "karate" -due to the Japanese stubborn way of "making it their own" when they adopt it. It's Okinawan, NOT Japanese! And most of "it" today just plain SUCKS

  • @hazor777

I see these comments all over youtube about how there is no "true" Karate left. Of all the Karate schools I've seen in the West, the Shotokan lineage seems to be one of the best. I've been moving from one dojo to the next looking for decent teachers. Care to enlighten me as to where to find these places?

  • @Woolfrey : my friend, I see you're in Australia so I can't really recommend anyone out/over there.... If I know/hear of training, Ill message you. BUt you would be better off learning a mix : Ju Jitsu,Greco ROman Wrestling, Karate Punch/kick techniques (there is a science to effective technique!), Muy Tai knee/kicking, boxing etc...- eventually you will learn that the human body only moves so many ways & you'll learn human behavior under stress (fighting) -this means yrs training, understand?

  • @hazor777

Don't worry, I'm already well aware of the benefits of mixed training. I used to do Judo, have done a bit of BJJ, done some cross training in Taekwondo and a bit of Wing Chun. I've had to give up training for the nth time because of work/study commitments. Going to get back in to it with Jujutsu, Shotokan and Kickboxing/Muay Thai.

I know of 1 excellent Karate teacher near me, but all this talk makes me wonder by what standard you measure good Karate.

  • @Woolfrey : Do this: get on Facebook and look up Avi Rokah -in Los Angeles,Cal. -he took over Sensei Nishiyama's studio when Sensei passed away afew yrs ago.Avi will direct you to someone in your town/country, but remember, it is still "sport karate", if you really want to get to the root of true karate training, the REAL thing, go to Okinawa and study, or take what you learn from Shotokan and really research d*e*e*p into kata and application, I can tell you, this video aint it,

  • @hazor777

The closest Okinawan Karate to me is a tiny dojo 5 hours drive away. The Shotokan here seems to be the best available, the Sensei's understanding of technique is very thorough and the sparring is dynamic and not based around a point system. The only problem is the lack of bunkai and self defense. Thanks for your advice :)

  • @hazor777

Believe me, I know this is impractical Bunkai, Youtube just recommended it to me... Even Kanazawa's videos of bunkai on here are poor. The best I've seen is probably karatascosaintemarg. I'm very interested in the application of kata, it's just very difficult to get my friends to train with me let alone find a teacher who knows it all. I think karatascosaintemarg is the best I've seen so far...

  • @Woolfrey : Search for Vince Morris on YT - he knows bunkai pretty well, but no instructor "knows it all"..........

  • @Woolfrey Some moves are bad, but some are good. It's very hard to find good bunkai's on Youtube, believe me. I am greatful for every not the shitest bunkai on Youtube, because it's hard nto find ones good, specially in summer, when I don't have regular classes :( but I train alone :((

  • this is why karate has become a laughing stock

this is what was taught to children so they didnt harm each other

  • @JIMMYBUSHIDO : THANK YOU!! I AGREE ! Its time to expose the LIES and BULLSHIT that the so called "masters" have perpetuated for decades! The only ones benefitting were them and their bank accts.

  • Kata techniques were not originally developed to defend against karate techniques or attacks but were against real attacks. This looks good but not authentic and not applicable against real attacks ....

  • i teach my nieces what Motobo did to exit from the hostile market..

they kick my legs and i get leg contitioning ;)

  • I'm always concerned when i see bunkai displayed that shows an attacker using karate techniques. Do you honestly believe that Matsumura, Itosu, etc designed these kata do defend against other karateka?

Or, more likely, against robbers, drunks, assassins (against their king), unruly Satsuma Samurai and foreign sailors landing at Naha. None of whom would have known Naha-te/Shuri-te.

  • i second that motion

  • I commented on another 'bunkai' video in similar terms and essentially was told 'well you know these are omote bunkai and the ura bunkai are kept for students we trust'. To which I replied, 'why use unrealistic training methods? Particularly in this modern age...'

I'm still waiting for a reply from the guy. Personally I think that people, including Japanese masters from the 1940s did/displayed this cos they believed this was what they were supposed to be doing. This was 'real'. It's funny really

  • A key reason that students join karate dojos is to learn self defense. And then we teach this nonsense and say it's real or we teach them this 'nonsense' and say well this is just a training style and we'll teach you the good stuff in a year or two. And then we wonder why karate student numbers are falling and MMA classes are thriving.

Teach students real self defence from day one and stop with this omote bunkai rubbish. For the sake of the traditional arts.

  • @bertthepickle I couldn't agree more!

  • @bertthepickle Very good take. My own view is that kihon is theoretical karate perfection, kumite is karate vs karate and kata is karate vs everything else.

  • @bertthepickle Agreed full heartedly.

  • Excelente Bunkai, la idea general del Bunkai es la aplicación del Kata en combate y en mi criterio esto está muy bien logrado.

  • Whats up with all the little kids wearing black belts? I don't know what these guy's mind set is, but I'm a firm believer that a shodan or higher ranking is a responsibility, and not to be passed out indiscriminately. Hell, where I train it's very rare that a young child even receives a brown belt because most kids (keep in mind, I said most) simply don't have the ability to perform at such levels. And a black belt is very hard to attain.

  • PS unless you're a girl, ditch your under shirt. Just wear the gi. Wearing a shirt under your gi is seen as very disrespectful by most Karate practitioners I know. It shows that you don't take the practice seriously. If you're training hard enough, you should be glad to ditch the shirt as you will be cooler and able to move better.

  • Itusu didnt have a gi thou, neither did Matsumura!

they took off their excessive clothing and trained in their equivilant of t-shirt and long johns, that is tradition.

if they were here they'd ask: how did you get all these westerners to wear these silly clothes?

  • Itosu and Matsumura were Karate experts. None of us are. Itosu and Matsumura lived a long time ago. We live now. Ditch the undershirt.

  • u win man,

to remain in the dojo, i'll ditch the undershirt in december, take sensi's words as Bible and quit cross training..

i'm used to it by now

  • @baaasil Touch a nerve did I? Suck it up. I didn't say that no one can cross train or that you have to take the sensei's words as gospel truth. My point was that if you're going to train, don't train half assed. If you're able to do your practice with multiple layers of shirts on without passing out from excess heat, then odds are you're not pushing yourself hard enough and there's worlds more that you could be getting out of Karate practice. Don't be a baby.

  • ???????? ok... where is TEKKI SHODAN ???????

  • It's not tekki shodan. It's tekki shodan bunkai. It doesn't mean that this is only a bunkai to the kata. This means that this is a complete form. Something like kata itself. There are bunkais and there are [kata] bunkai. It is different thing.

  • oh, ok... let me refrase the question: Where is TEKKI SHODAN BUNKAI??????

  • @gyakuhanmi : this is a complete JOKE, there is NO "bunkai" anywhere in this fucking video, but go ahead & keep thinking yer all badasses.....it's quite funny to observe

    oss!

  • Completely unfaithful to the Kata, I have studied this Kata relentlessly and have applications that are much simpler and effective than this interpretation. The general Idea is there but needs work, however, there were SOME that I liked.

  • That was exactly my point when I'm asking where the hell is TEKKI SHODAN here. It's absolutely unrelated to the Kata. That being said, they're showing some interesting (medium level difficulty) combinations, nothing more, nothing less.

  • bro have you heard of iain abernethy?

  • No, who is he?

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz

  • muy bueno un alto conocimiento del bunkai y del karate, mis saludos, oooss!

  • just because 11,993 didnt.
