That's a perfect example of a true athlete taking the position of the quarterback. Now it's either Pass or Run. He was a great combination of both and he was robbed of a title in 1993.
I really don't think he ever really cared about succeeding in the NFL. He was at Notre Dame during the height of the Holtz years. It couldn't get any better then that. I also read somewhere his dad is one of the richest businessmen in the midwest. Money was never an issue with him.
I live about 2 miles form the house Rick Gre up in and let me tell you something. His dad isn't anything close to being the richest amn in town, much less the midwest. Got to see Rick play high school and every Notre Dame game. My own belief is that as a former Miami coach and a Notre Dame grad, Erickson had a personal vendetta. Mier had a cannon for an arm andonly under Flores was he allowed to use it.
I was at the UT game in South Bend and it was horrible to be there and watch the horror unfold in the second half, but ND did not have much of a defensive backfiled then, and unbelievably, losing Hentrich at the end of the firrst half is what doomed ND in that game. But Mirer had a pretty successful run at ND and played a very good "Cheerios Bowl", which I got to attend, too, that year.

But I guess Rick seemed to have a more adaptable skill set.

I don't get how he was never an NFL success. Man was he amazing!

He got passed around to some pretty awful teams. His rookie year with the Seahawks he looked good and then Dennis Erickson came in and ruined him.

I thought it might have worked on the Bears. But it just didn't happen. But I'll never forget watching him in college.
