  • "The Reagan administration came to adopt prodemocracy policies as a means of relieving pressure for more radical change, but inevitably sought only limited, top-down forms of democratic change that did not risk upsetting the traditional structures of power with which the United States has long been allied."

  • "The deep fear in the United States government of populist-based change in Latin America-with all its implications for upsetting established economic and political orders and heading off in a leftist direction- leads to an emphasis on incremental change from the top down."

  • Thomas Carothers: "The underlying U.S. goal is maintaining the basic societal orders of particular Latin American countries approximately as they are-ensuring that the economics are not drastically rearranged and that the power relations of the various social sectors are not turned upside down. The underlying objective is to maintain the basic order of what, historically at least, are quite undemocratic societies."

  • K VIVA LA REVELUCION FMLN

  • I Hate War! And They Did This To Save Lifes And To B Free From Taxes And Shit ..Nd Soldiers Just Come And Take Stuff From Them Like No Shit! WTF!? Why Couldnt They Just Leave Them Alone And Listen To Them Instead Of Starting A War?! I Wasnt There Or Any Thing But I Still Am Proud To Have Salvadorian Blood Because We Fought For Our Freedom And Our Civil Rights!

  • I think the communist as well as the government didn't give a shit about the people. That's usually what happens in civi wars. The campesinos being poor and illiterate. What do they know of democracy ir communism when they never lived in it. All they have always wanted is to survive in peace n have rights. And that's what they fight for.unfortunately the people that get involved being communist or imperialist all they care for is their own interest and in the end is the same people they claim t

  • im el savdorian my dad was alive during that well he was in it

  • My dad fought in this war. Served for the Salvadorean Army.

  • @ChelseasaurusRex I was a U.S. soldier who served there; 1984-85 and 1986. What department was your father in?

  • I was born in the year that the war ended, my parents fled their country because of the civil war

Dios bendiga a El Salvador.

  • The things I saw over there I hope no man ever has to see such a horrifying thing I will never forget everything Ive seen and lived

Que viva EL SALVADOR POR SIEMPRE

  • I think you all miss the point. There are no winners in war. I am an American (ex-soldado) that was in El Sal; 1984-1985, 1986. I only pray that life is better for ALL Salvadorenos.

  • @uh1hcobra I don't understand though. Why exactly were they fighting?

  • @katGarkia15 Basically, the autocratic government was being oppressive toward the campesinos. The problem is, Leftists from Nicaragua and other countries got involved by providing weapons in an effort to expand their own interests. The U.S. government countered by providing resources to the government. In the end, the Salvadorans came to realize they were only killing each other and the only way to move forward was to reconcile their differences peacefully. This is a short explanation

  • There was no support coming from Nicaragua. That was lie that you aparently fell for. Lets say it was true. The US had the right to organize, train, arm, finance and command death squads and carry out a murderous war essentially against the population, but Nicaragua would've been wrong to aid the resistance in trying to overthrow a Himmler-style military dictatorship?

  • @Horhey0420 I personally saw the evidence.... How old are you and do you live in El Sal? I suspect you're not old enough to have fought for either side.

  • @uh1hcobra

It was reported in the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal that an internal investigation/study concluded that the administration's evidence (the "white paper") that they claimed proved Nicaragua was supporting the Salvadoran resistance was a sick joke. Their resources were being poured into fighting the CIA-death squads.

  • @uh1hcobra From the World Court (Nicaragua v the United States): "the evidence is insufficient to satisfy the Court that, since the early months of 1981, assistance has continued to reach the Salvadorian armed opposition from the territory of Nicaragua on any significant scale, or that the Government of Nicaragua was responsible for any flow of arms at either period."

  • @uh1hcobra From a Senior Carter official who challenged his own administration's justification for providing "lethal" aid to the Salvadorian armed forces and death squads: "Our impression was that the guerrillas got most of their arms on the international black market, primarily in Miami." Which is why they mostly used M-16's.

  • @Horhey0420 I don't doubt the information you saw but I dare say it probably wasn't the complete picture. I was one of the troops that "was not in ES" in 84 - 85 and again in 86. In our case, we discovered information showing arms being channeled through the Gulf of Fonseca. Some munitions made there way to Morazan Province.

  • @uh1hcobra The Washington Post: : White Paper on El Salvador is Faulty

The State Department's white paper on El Salvador, published in February, contains factual errors, misleading statements and unresolved ambiguities that raise serious questions about the administration's interpretation of participation by communist countries in the Salvadoran civil war.

    To be continued..

  • @uh1hcobra Continued.. The contention of the white paper that the Salvadoran rebels were enjoying the benefits of "nearly 200 tons" of communist-supplied arms and materiel is not supported anywhere in these documents, and is implicitly refuted by many of them. In document after document there are reports of rebels short of arms, or looking for ways to buy arms, or exhorting comrades to produce home-made arms, or plotting to kidnap wealthy Salvadorans thought to have access to private arsenals.

  • @uh1hcobra Continued..

The tile copy includes this notation from a US government official who read and evaluated it "From this," the American wrote, "it would appear they had only 626 weapons for more than 9000 men." This document was omitted from the collection released to the press with the white paper.

  • @uh1hcobra The International Court of Justice also concluded that there was no credible evidence proving that the Nicraguan government was supplying the Salvadoran rebels with weapons.

  • @uh1hcobra The US took control of the bureaucracy of death cause, "the administration could not conceive of an El Salvador in which the military was not the dominant actor, the economic elite no longer held the national economy in its hands, the left was incorporated into the political system, and all Salvadorans actually had both the formal and substantial possibility of political participation. In short, the US government had no real conception of democracy in El Salvador."

  • Vive La Liberata!

    Vive La FMLN!

    Greetings from Sri Lanka!

Dear FMLN comrades, we had a similar movement like yours and undergone similar experience like you. (But we were far less equiped). Then after more than 60,000 deaths within just two years (1988/89) we suffered at the hands of rightwing killer squads sponsored by UNP government.

We succeded in democratic ways steadily and become a true force in last 10 years.

Alas, our present leaders are now joining hands with reactioneries, the UNP

  • everyone gets power hungry in time and they forget about thoes who gave their lives in the battlefield and the cause of the war . i live in canada but i love my homeland el salvador and in my country the poor keep getting poorer and the rich richer just befor the war . wich brings to the conclution that 80.000 died in vain ,we are still where we started . but i wish you well in the struggle of your people .but think before you get involved in anything because betrayal is a common thing.

  • smelly? Read your history, educate yourself.

  • The next time some fat assed American "liberal" starts spouting off about how effin wonderful they are, refer them to this video.

These warriors fought for a GD piece of ground to raise corn and their brown babies.

For 12 years they crawled on their bellies thru that jungle doing whatever they had to in hopes of a better way for their children's futures.

At the surrender, they came in open bed trucks to lay down their arms.

I will never forget their faces, I was there.

  • what do you mean by liberals?

  • A fat assed American cause whore who thinks because they marched in a parade for some paper cause that they have been on the front lines.

No, fatass, that's not the front lines.

Salvadorians lived it and so did the American patriots in our American Revolution.

Never met an American liberal who put their fat ass on the line. They like to yap about at Starbuck's.

  • @2anthro Deep bro

  • @2anthro you were there? tell me more? I like to know what province are you from?

  • @2anthro I think you meen some fat assed American "consevative" who backed that "cowboy" Ronnie Reagan to go down to Central America and back the oppressive Governments of Nicaragua, Guatemala, and El Salvador. These are the same people who call them "illeagles", and they wouldn't survive a week in that part of the world.

  • @2anthro

There's not a lot of jungle in El Salvador.

And there wasn't a surrender. It was a negotiated settlement. After 15 years of fighting, the FMLN had effectively won. Who's running the country now?

If you really were there, then you had your head embedded up your arse.

  • @2anthro

your brain washed.. FMLN destroyed the country.. FMLN was a communist lie

  • @v3rsatil3akadonve the FMLN party was just overwhelmingly elected into office.

COME MIERDA HIJUEPUTA!!!

  • you forgot to thank them for completely destroying the infrastructure and setting our country back 40 years, it's called "guerra de desgaste" EL SALVADOR WILL NEVER BE COMMUNIST!!!

  • No!, It is called "war economics" and it had the objective to block the millions of dollars sent by U.S. to massacre the people, so in that sense the money had to be used better to rebuild that infrastructure instead of using that money to kill innocent people in El Salvador with its "war machinery" against the guerrilla, but at the same time to justify that genocide against innocent people. It is one way to "wear" the enemy.

Destruction was a consequence not an origin. An effect, not a cause.

  • yeah, but don't stop there, because the "aid" that the fmln terrorists recieved from communist China, USSR & Nicaragua wasn't exactly fruit baskets and it was not a pleasant one for the civilian population, listen, let's agree to disagree, you may be all well read and probably very educated (I am too) but I lived there thru the thick of it, I was born in '66 and lived there until 1990, so I saw everything, the bad that the right did, as well as the left, and we were caught in the middle!

  • You are wrong in the scope you make on the issue because you are focusing in the same way as the Salvadorean army and the right wing were the "gods" or "little boys singers from Vienna". The guerrilla was born, developed and multiplied thanks to the civil population, was based on it during the 12 years of the war. War is war, everything happens in a war, casualties and fatalities are caused from both sides. Just go to the conclusions of the "truth commission" by UN and you will see the reality.

  • no you are wrong because first of all you cannot tell me why or how I viewed things, you dont know me, you need to put down the books and try to deprogramm your brain a little from the leftist propaganda you have been brainwashed with, EE Salavdor NEVER had an insurrection as in Nicaragua, it was 18 to 20 thousand communist rebels who had some campesino support against 100 thousand US Backed military, which by the way were under a democratically elected government from 1984, on.

  • your true colors come out, true communist, leninist way of thinking, I cannot think for myself, I am not allowed to, you (the state) tells me how things were and are so that I view you as my saviour, you the state (the people, what a joke) can make my life better, not my individuality, that's why El Slavador will NEVER have a populist leftist government, read my lips it WONT happen, I don't like Avila, or ARENA, but doesn't mean I will vote for the communists of the fmln! punto y final!

  • The saddest speech I have ever read from you.Your behvaior is worst. You seem a retarded "nationalist" dying of hunger who lives in depressed slums or in carton houses, who are afraid that the so-called "comunism" will steal the garbage can where they live, and still voting for the same "capitalist" mafia who runs El Salvador for 500 years. FMLN has popular, authentic and genuine support; not afraid of anything. ARENA and its marketing, evil propaganda and terror campaign is not popular.

  • The true colors are the blue, white and red colors of your ass.

  • The another part in which you are wrong, is when you say that FMLN received economical aid from USSR (from other countries yes ). I tell you that is not right, USSR was the first country in the world that one can imagine that could have helped the Salvadorean guerrilla. AS far as I know, FMLN Guerrilla did not receive any help of any kind from the USSR and never was in its agenda. Russian experts vaticinated to Shafick no victory before 1980, so they did not care about it.

  • yeah and coffee doesn't come from coffee beans, and the guerrillas were the heroes they NEVER killed civilians, they NEVER destriyed, sprayed busus full of people with bullets, we spent MONTHS without electricity thanks to them, and now they say they want to help my country,??? COMAN MIERDA! (not you personally) but, Man you are in denial!

  • FMLN support came from Nicaragua (weapons) and from Cuba (training)and other less important resources, that is all. You are wrong dude; and I know that is hard for you to accept the reality. I tell you once again, just compare the atrocities made by both sides, dude!. Figurative speaking (in a war), "I RATHER PUT A BOMB ON A POST, THAN ON A PREGNANT WOMEN)".

Refer to the list of massacres done by salvadorean army, and try to convince me how many massacres perpetrated the guerrilla.

  • Congelador:

Yes you are right when you say, El Salvador never will be a comunist country because already was, it is and it will be, unless the "capitalist" mafia stops runinng the country because we are living worst than a comunist regime.

!Congratulations to ARENA for the destruction of our national dignity!.

You are wrong. Because the civil war started by the "capitalist" mafia who runs the country for almost 500 years, took us back more than 40 years, richness was just for the 14 families.

  • Very nice video. 100% respect to 'los companeros' who took up arms to defend themselves and try and make a better life for themselves.
