Yes it was a silly thing the engineers and politicians did back in the day - ripping out light rail. Thankfully there is a renaissance of the tram - but it all has to be built again. Sadly not here though.
Brisbane was particularly badly hit with the roadway phenomenon, look at that Riverside Expressway. And now with the Bowen Hills junction (in this video) - it may still be on!.

When I remember that Gympie Road used to have a segregated tramway down the middle of it from Kedron to Chermside, it makes me bristle that there is now going to be a busway built that will probably wipe out Kedron Bowl, Hungry Jack's and part of the Lutwyche Cemetary. How far we've come (or not) in forty years.
BTW when are we getting back the tethered car track in Kalinga Park?
