Euro 96 was last time England came anywhere near winning a major tournament, and this match is also the only time they have ever won a penalty shootout... ever
0:57 certainly looked a goal. Also, I remember the Germans got one in extra time in the Semi and there didn't look a lot wrong with that. However, the Lampard goal in 2010 we didn't get to make it 2-2. I suppose it evens out!
alan shearer hated micheal owen......cos shearer was 22 when he got the englang job
micheal owen was 16 .tipical newcastle bad loser....then he kissed owens arse to cum to newcastle cos shearer on hes contract had anyone who cums to the club for more than they paid for me i want a 20percent pay rise....BASTARD..he hated owen even stop englang at the age of 30 cos he didnt want to sitt on the bench over the new kid MICHEAL OWEN shearer won fuckall when man utd asked u 2 join them you said n
This was the only time I've ever seen England win a penalty shootout in all the 20+ years I've watched them and even then that was with the home advantage.
im german but i loved this era of english football and their national team.england sold his football to foreign billionairs ,foreign players and foreign national coaches.I was really shocked about the lost match vs germany, except a few minutes at the end of the 1st half the german victory never seemed to be in any trouble
It's true. I was in a Bierhalle in Munich for that game. I still don't know what happened to England. They did rather well in the qualifying. It just wasn't the same team at the main event.
Erm Baseball???? You think I am American or what mate, no I don't think he is a f****** legend more like a muppet. A. Cole miles better than he ever was. End of.
@elgringo9791 erm i dont think so just look at the pure passion Pearce and co. show playing for England here in a major tournament for a start! Especially compared to tournaments since '96, the current generation of players for example haven't shown this enthusiasm or passion whilst playing for England have they?
Pearce a Legend??????? LMAO he celebrated scoring a pen FINALLY !!!! Spain were Robbed of those Euros but hey that is Football Now lets look forward to the World Cup 2010 and hope the refs are fair to ALL teams, Vamos Espana /0)
I remember this match. Spain were all over England and were unlucky to lose. Both this run to the semi final and the Italia 90 run to the semi final were overrated big time.
Euro 96 is the reason why nowadays the majority of people who attend England football matches are total morons, too many middle-class trendies, too many women, too many thick BNP-voting, knucke dragging hard-done-by attitude whingers, know fuck-all about football, wishy washy booing-lampard-for-2-solid-years-AT WEMBLEY, bandwagonist, singing "god save the queen" all the time, try-too-hard-to-be-patriotic boring cunts.
I'm English as well, believe it or not! we're not bad when it comes to club football, but the type of ppl who go to england matches these days just depresses me......
I do agree with you but that match was really great. Very well played by both teams with most of the plays properly terminated with shoots directed to goal. Spain had a system and real team built with good players -no necessary stars- not seen by me until these days with our current team. By the way, second goal was in good position. It was not off side.
@supahdupahguy81 couldn't agree more, same happened at club level, certainly with my team the boro, everyone flocked to see Juninho, Ravanelli etc but now its not as entertaining they have no interest.
Well, I really don't know. I'm a Brazilian who really oves the beautiful game but in recent I've been trying not to follow any of the europena football because I think our media shows too much of it and I guess this is a kind of colonialism. We have great competiotions such as the Libertadores and Copa América, so I don't like when I see people commenting so passionately about Man Utd Vs Barcelona. I do prefer a good São Paulo Vs Boca Juniors.
Of course it is. The media tries to show European football as the best. If it was so, Europeans would have won all WC so far. But in fact South Americans have won 9 Cups and Europeans 9 too. The difference lies on the fact that you guys have never won a cup out of Europe, whereas Brazil has won in Sweden 1958 and Japan/Korea 2002 :o)
@BlueLeopard200 you mean... seriously?? With all this xenophobic wave taking Europe you guys are more hospitable? I know, I know... What about England 1966? Didn't the hosts HAVE to win as well?
@BlueLeopard200 hmm I get your point, and yes you might be right in respect to other teams feeling intimitated. In the 2001 Copa America held in Colombia, Argentina withdrew pointing out lack of safety, Brazil misteriously lost to super weak Honduras and were out of the Cup in the quarter-finals and not surprinsingly Colombia won the Cup. But, either ways, be it by strange forces out of the pitch, be it by tendentious refereeing(66) winning a Cup under these circunstances is not sportsmanship
Spain was rightly punished for wearing such an awful jersey!! Bad taste is never forgiven. Now that they are back to something simple and beautiful(exactly for being simple) they are the righteous winners of the Euro. lol
yeah thats rigged hard... but clearly the hosts are always gonna have the advantage with decisions going their way.. if those 2 disallowed goals were England plays, they wud hav been given as goals 4 sure
Barry Davies was superb much better than the horrible cliched commentators of today
