What good is doing the form flawlessly if the untrained eye of a novice can't catch the essence of it? So you exagerate the movements you want your students to understand so the can see the effects clearly applied.
I don't think he was doing the form to demo his skill set. If you look at the video he's doing the form like an instructor would, making sure the students catch the movements. He emphasises the use of power upon contact and of sticking. I don't believe he as attempting to teach all aspects of the movements at once.
That was beautiful. The expression of power and precision of movement was is the best I've seen so far and I've seen a quite a few. It looks more robust and complete. I hope to be at least that good one day. :-)
This is the best version of the Muk Yan Jong that I have seen so far. All of the movements make logical sense. Did Yip Man teach it to Wong Shun Leung in this manner or did WSL simply rearrange it according to what his actual fighting experiences taught him? May someone who knows please answer.
where is this guy teaching it would be worth the trip to learn from him even at my age please post your name and a school location and or number thanks for the lesson. rasheed always like the warriors. peace and keep teaching we all would like to learn more.
listen man i been following the chung for more than 25 yrs i dont claim mastery over even the first form but ive seen alot of people work the mok yan jong i pesonly think you got it pretty good keep working it . PEACE OUT BROTHER FROM RASHEED
It is inevitable that when one posts a video one will attract criticism. Nothing will ever substitute a live opponent. In a nutshell the dummy should be used mainly in absence of a real training partner. To improve position, to learn how to receive with subtle energy, to develop several techniques which are absent in the empty hands forms, to apply the full power of your kicks, to develop flow. If you want good sound you should be a musician.
Guys with a good Jong produce a certain sound. It's called "playing the Jong". This guy, while having a decent Jong, produces alot of loud sounds. The result will be that each of his students will try to make louder sounds than he does.
hhhmmm, microphone too sensitive? dummy not made same as yours or arms don't fit the same? Different wood? True skill and mastery of an art, usually brings about humility as well. When we strive to put others down it's usualy because we have a need to make ourselves feel better.
This is a very nice demonstration of the dummy. Better than most speedy gonzalez's out there. Good job Mr. Regalzi. It's good to have speed but make sure you know what you're doing first, very nice sir.
some of these moves are like Wong shun lungs moves so a direct comparason to Ip chun isnt that useful. The issue IS are the moves of use in combat or aid the practitioner in wing chun. Alan Gibson has moves on the dummy that look like this [WSL] It is useful to discuss lineage if it helps locate where someone is comming from. I have seen about 5 different forms on the dummy, if you look hard enough you can see similarites with substitutions here and there for kicks, steps, hune saus etc
There is no such thing as authentic WC material. Yip Man taught Wing Chun to his students with whatever he had in mind. That's why you see differences such as MYJ, LDBG, and BJD, and SOME differences in SLT, CK, and BJ. IMHO, the materials that you've seen taught by Yip brothers and GM Yip's later students simply unify all the differences among the Sifu's, and students can train in the same materials at VTAA in Hong Kong. Whether Yip bros have the authentic material is still questionable.
About two weeks before Ip Man passed away, he was working on some 8mm films to document all the forms he taught. You can find SLT, CK, MYJ footage over the Net. Unfortunately, he could not finish LDBG, BT and BJD. His purpose was to preserve the forms he taught. It is a myth that Ip Man taught variations of the same form to different students as clarified by Ip Ching during his speech at the first Wing Tsun Association World Conference held in HK a while back.
It might be true that Ip Man taught differently according to individual's need but it is a misconception that he taught different versions of the same form. Ip Ching stressed this point strongly in his speech and urged fellow practitioners not to "impose one's own wisdom" on Ip Man. At the conference, he also demonstrated his version of BJ and with a small change from the original.
However, he stressed that he always make it clear to his students that it was his idea, not Ip Man's. Many never completed full learning before starting to teach. When confronted with doubts from others, they would claim that was the way Ip Man taught them, in "closed door", or " after hours" when others were gone. It is an easy crop out and a shame. That is why WT is in such a sad, confused state now.
Besides learning WT skill, I urge all WT practitioners to learn other aspect of martial art life such as history, traditional value, respect, integrity and even logic. Just ask yourself if Ip Man would be so unwise to teach many versions of the same form so the errors can be multiplied exponentially through generations? Don't be so gullible believing this kind of fallacy and failed logic. Good luck to you.
You are incredibly arrogant to say that. I have trained WSL Ving Tsun, Ip Chun Wing Chun and Wing Tsun. Now i have never met Leung Ting(so i cannot speak for him) But I regularly train with top WT instructors and have found them all to be not only exceptional martial artists but also intellegent, deep and respectful.
Individual movement wise, he is not bad but the whole sequence is totally out of wack!!!! Please, please please, to all those so call "masters", refer to the latest book by Ip Ching titled "Mook Yan Jong Sum Fat". This is a well documented MYJ techniques illustrated by none other than Ip Man himself! Others who never learned it right please do not make up stuffs and try to embellish your credentials or skills!!!
@jonlung you do know that this is the WONG SHUN LEUNG dummy form right? he was the one Ip Man selected to do his challenge fights to represent his school. nuf said
hmmmmmmm....but you have to consider that Wong Sheun Leung completed under Ip Man as well and his dummy form is WAY different than what Ip Man's practiced and left behind on the 8mm....which means that Wing Chun is ideas and concepts not an order of movements. What ip Man taught in 1972 before he passed is not the same as when he first started teaching....movements were changed in forms in order to make things more efficient...Ip Ching also has modified his fathers wing chun

One thing we don't understand, why is the first 4 section nearly everyone are the same, then the last few section everyone different.

very impressive. Facing does not refer to where your face is pointing even remotely. It refers to where your waist and force is pointing.

very good wooden dummy. only thing i didnt like was that he never looked at it unless he was facing it. you should always face the wooden dummy.

is there a purpose to the dropping of the hands after the tok-saus or is that just the way they demarcate sections of the form?

His force is good yes, because if the dummy didn't sounded like that, he would be doing it wrong
