@TeSs17100 No, he's not deaf, but I do use some ASL and hand signals I made up to communicate with him. I don't even need to say the commands most of the time.
@AlohaDucky i tried to do that with my dog and she doesn't want to listen. i gues because she is not a full chihuahua that might be it but i see other chihuahua that are not mixed and the do fine. how long did it take you to teach him the command be pretty? and the roll over, and play dead. i just want you to give me some tips on what to do and how long to do it.
Lol!! He is so cute! i I taught my dog to play dead but i want him to be able to close his eyes! Lol! because he looks at me like gimmy my treat! Wheres my treat!
i gt a chihuahua recently...somehow i find it so hard to train him anything...he runs around all the time...he never listen to any commands at all...he get angry very quickly...and he wants to play all the time!! and he chews my carpet and everything he eye on...hw to stop him?
your dog is very smart and very very cute! this is my first time to take care of a small dog (i always had big or medium size dog). and for some reason im finding it hard to train him (my babys' name is Sasuke) :( help......
What else??? If you feed them only dry food, their stools are pretty hard and do make a big mess. Natures Miracle (etc) is your friend. If you don't know what the denning instinct is, learn. Understanding it is key to house training any dog. You can also try crate training, but I don't have the heart for that.
Whatever you do, do NOT punish the dog after the fact. Unless they are exceptionally smart for a dog, they can't displace thoughts in space and time well enough to realize that you are angry at them NOW because they pooped/peed somewhere else and at some time in the past. I've seen dogs that were made neurotic about their bodily functions because their owners got angry or smacked them whenever they "went" inside the house. The poor things didn't know what to do, when they need to go.
I've found pee-pee pads help a lot. They are available in several brands and from singles on up through large bargain brands in boxes of 100 or so. There are numerous good books on the subject as well, but make sure you get one about training SMALL breeds. As I said, with a very small breed their denning instinct works against you instead of for you. To a small breed a different room or the other end of the house (from where they sleep) IS the north fourty (so to speak.)
Small dogs are hard to potty train because in the case of a small dog their denning instinct works against you (instead of for you, as it does with a larger dog.) I've house trained several chis now, it takes consistency and lots of *positive* reinforcement. And if you lose your cool and get angry, get angry at the poop/pee. The dog won't understand that it pooped/peed and your angry about that, but it *will* understand if you are angry at the poop/pee.
Aww. Smart dog. I have a chihuahua too, but he's about to turn 5 now. I guess it's kinda late to teach him some tricks. He does know some "human" stuff though.. like putting a blanket over him when it's time to sleep or to knock and push open a door. Haha! Cute cute Yoshi. :)
I started him in a PetSmart puppy training class when he was about 4 months old. That lasted 8 weeks. It's never too early to start training a puppy once it's time for it to leave it's mother. And I personally don't think it's ever too LATE to train, either.
Hello, I really need help, I got a chihuahua yesterday, pure bred, and I don't know if it's me or the dog.... but he seems very scared of everything, and barks at the tv by seeing his own reflection, I don't know if something is wrong with him... but I want to teach him how to potty in the right place indoors.. and all that, please reply!! Thanky, P.S How'd you do the bang trick? :)
Hello! Thanks for asking for my opinion, but I'm not really a dog expert. I'll try to help anyway.
My dog was very scared when I brought him home, too. He didn't like when people came at him to see or pet him (he still doesn't). I THINK some chihuahuas are naturally this way. I suggest just letting your pup come to you when its ready to want to be near you. Then praise him when he does, but don't over do it.
Praise your dog when he uses the potty in the correct spot.
Hehe! I taught him to roll over first. Once he started to roll over I would stop him in mid-roll, and say "stay." Then once he did that enough, I added "bang." He got it fairly quickly.
I suggest looking up pet tricks online that have videos. That's how I got the idea for Yoshi. ^_^
can u make a video of how u taught him to play dead when u said bang??i want to see if i can teach my dog it
